Better than Visa Magic Code?

There is a fee to join the EC, EC discounts aren't necessarily "complimentary".

Assume National changes the screen. Instead of a code you have to spell it out the rate class you qualify for AAA, AARP, ABC Corp employee, Disney AP holder.... Is the contract valid if you ask for a rate class you're not entitled to? How is it any different if you list an incorrect code? The OP may have made a typo but every other poster either knew they didn't qualify for the code, or didn't care. How you can represent you're entitled to use a specific discount code if you don't have the slightest idea what that code represents.

Other posters have you the verbiage that allows National to correct the rate.

Sorry but there isn't any doubt this isn't a public code nor is there any doubt National has the right to "correct the mistake" customers make with the code. If this was a public code it would be listed somewhere. National website, newspaper ad, magazine ad....I'll agree with the posters who think you'll get away with it as long as they don't have a claim. It's probably not worth the time it would take for National to go through the reservations.

Suppose a 21 year old driver makes a "typo" and lists the wrong DOB. Is there any doubt the car rental company can and will correct the typo and charge the renter the appropriate underage charge. I'm not sure why posters seem to think a "typo excuse" requires National to honor the wrong rate.

I am not being fecicious - so in case it reads wrong, I am sincere...

Where do I verify my eligibility for a rate and acceptance when I click? The OP put in a wrong number and that is how she got this rate. She had no reasonable expectation she put in a wrong rate.

Also, complementary means free - fine. ALL of the codes are FREE aren't they? There is no charge to use a code so that definition doesn't make sense.

I agree that people should be aware of the possible risks but I don't actually agree that these necessarily are risks. If I enter into a binding contract both sides have to agree to terms - they have to provide those terms for me to agree with them. If there is verbage in the terms that says I verify that I am eligible to use the rate I reserved then yes they have notified me. But if they don't make me agree by clicking, checking or signing that I am eligible for the rate then it is THEIR responsibility to inform me of that before I pull of the lot with their car.

All I know is I have a reservation booked with the 57 code. I called National, they told me the code was complimentary and anybody can use it and I emailed NAtional and they told me the code was complimentary and anybody can use it. You do not need to be a TS employee. Who I am supposed to believe???
National told me I can use the code. I'm going to use the code in August. Everybody has to make up their own mind.
If National wanted to stop the use of this code, they would do it in a heartbeat.

I have used the better than magic code 4 times (once in March in Orlando, once in April in Orlando, Once in Long Beach, CA in June and once in LasVegas in June) with no problems. There are a million code combinations out there. One time I was playing around and ended up finding a code that gave me a $12.00 for the whole week rental. Did I use it---NO. It sounded too good to be true. I think people are looking too deeply into this issue. National is in the business to rent cars. Now with the price of gas the competition is more towards the "gas efficient" rental cars. In LasVegas, we ended up getting a hummer on the Emerald Aisle. Why, probably because of the gas prices (even though it wasn't that bad) being over $4 a gallon. The aisles in Orlando, Long Beach and LasVegas were loaded with vans, suv's, etc. when we visited. I don't think this is a moral issue. If it was a loss to the company, they would of discovered it months ago. Just my opinion!

Could someone please explain this Emerald Aisle thing to me? I originally thought that was the membership that costs like $50 a year and you have to rent x number of times, but there are so many people referring to it, that I can't imagine ya'll have $50 memberships, do you? If it's their free card, like all the car rental places have a card (Budget's is fastpass or something I think, I used it last time).....then how does it work. You reserve a car and then can choose something much more expensive? I.e. the Hummer that this person got? Do you pay the same rate, or is it that the same code rate will be applied?

Yeah, I'm confused! Thanks for the help.

Mousesavers has a link for a free membership on that website. I got mine for free through there.:)

I tried some reservations using the 8572987 and 57 codes and it says the code is no longer valid... hmm guess after all the calls they got they pulled it.

First rule of getting a discount.. NEVER CALL... grr. I've got 2 reservations with this code for december and now it probably won't work. Great...

The 67 code is now dead too. When I tried to put in my dates, I get a message that says "we are currently sold out at this location." I can get my dates with no coupon and I can even book using my Entertainment book, but as for the 67 code, I believe it is now dead. May it RIP!

There are two easy ways to determine if a discount code is legit:
1) People tell you not to call. If the code was legit it won't matter how many people call.
2) You have no idea who the code is intended for. Most sites tell you to use this code if you're an AAA member, this code if you're a COSTCO member etc. A code with no indication is generally a corporate code not available by the general public

Also if the code automatically includes insurance coverage, then generally it is not a code for the general public.

OK ............... I HAVE THE PERFECT SOLUTION FOR THIS ENTIRE CODE PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!! :thumbsup2

Maybe we can get the owners of the DIS board to call National's office and negotiate a DIS MEMBERS ONLY code that has the exact same rates as the travel solutions code??? :wizard: :wizard:

I mean think about it, there is enough talk on here about people renting vehicles to give National one hell of an advantage over all the other car rental companies in Florida. I know I would happily use DIS's new National ID Code every time we came down to WDW and there would be no more arguing on this board about codes.

Plus think about all the new members this board would get too. :rotfl:

Antisocial? Give me a break. People are simply giving their opinions on whether the code is valid or invalid to use. You are certainly entitled to your opinion that the we DISers are not eligible to use the code, but those who feel otherwise and voice own own opinion are anything but "antisocial".

I will be using the *67 code next month and I don't have any qualms about using it.
***********Agreed**************
I used it last month and everything was absolutely fine. I have no regrets or feel like I did something wrong??!! I'll be using it again next month when we rent a minivan to go to Seaworld for the day. I think if you want to use it, then use it.....if you have doubts about using it.....then don't. Simple as that.
****Now back to the :laundy:

Except that National has pulled the code (according to the previous posts).

Just back, used the "67" code for a standard SUV, no problems! Great SUV, all leather seats, etc. It was 6 days for under $160 (including tax)

What happens if someone has a future reservation with the code?
No one knows right now. We'll have to wait to see how things shake out.

When I try to use the "57" code I get this message:
"The entered Corporate ID, Association ID, or Contract ID is invalid"

When I try to use the "67" code I get this message:
"No vehicle available for this station. Please try another location."

I'm going to sit on my "67" reservations I have and hope that they are honored. In the mean time, I'll make some back-up reservations too.

On another thread someone mentioned that they used the 67 code yesterday with no problem (after the code was pulled).
The question I have is,if you have a back-up reservation , how long will they hold it (with Alamo for example) and will there be a charge of any kind if you don't get back to them to cancel in time ?

The codes are no longer being accepted by the reservations systems. These codes were for travel agents. Travel agents bring renters to National in droves, in return, as a courtesy, National rewards them by renting them cars "at cost".

Exactly how long did you think it was gonna take before National figured out that the code was no longer a secret and that they were giving away cars at 70% less than the normal rate?

There is probably one other thing folks who are using codes they don't have bona fide proof they are eligible for might want to consider.
Rental car rates have been creeping up at a very fast rate in the past 5-6 weeks. The differences are dramatic. My insurance company has a negotiated rate with Budget. (For customers, not an employee special). The rates for our trip have hovered between $250-300 for some months, then about 8 weeks ago I checked and I was able to get a compact for $208.00 for 10 days. I checked the rate today, and it's up to 436.00.
For National, using a rate code I can prove my eligibility for, my rate for the same rental time as above is $490.00.

The dramatic difference between the travel agent corporate rate codes and what is available otherwise is going to be very obvious to even the most casual observer at National.

Renters that choose the TA codes may not be able to fly below the radar as easily as they did before.
