I love credit cards so much!

Reddit scares me, so I rarely go on there. I'd be down for a FB group!

FYI, the group we created is private, invite only and the only people allowed will be verified DISboards users (since they have to PM here to join). It essentially will be an extension of this thread where we can hopefully support one another ;)

So I applied for my Marriott Personal card on 9/5 and got instant approval. It came while I was out of town, but I was holding on to it for my car repair bill to knock out the minimum spend. So on Monday 10/16 I charged $3500. The only other activity before that was the AF posting and I paid it. Just got a voicemail from Chase fraud to verify my new account... Not sure if it's fishy or not. I just SM'd them about it and mentioned I did make this large purchase for a car repair bill.

@SouthFayetteFan Thanks for setting up the Reddit group!

I thought of a question last night and almost forgot! When the Marriott card was 100k points, what was the spend? I'm struggling to find it...

@mhartman09 - you are most definitely super exclusive and super elite! Embrace it my friend!

:cool1: and it feels good!!

On another note, I'm now thinking I should have tried a double dip last night and applied for both the Marriott personal and the biz. I only need 2 5/24 slots open next year and the biz wouldn't have counted against that. Guess it's too late now that. Ugh.......I definitely need to analyze these decisions a little bit better before pulling the trigger. Guess you live and you learn.

I hear you! I think even the best of churners can get caught up in the frenzy to apply and second guess a strategy (or lack thereof) the next day. The Good news is it's just a hardpull...and once you have 20 of those, what's another one!! LOL!

REDDIT GROUP COMMENT/UPDATE
Thanks to those who have joined so far. Just a quick comment here, we're looking to use that group to "continue the discussion". Over time we can add information and resources there that we can link to from here to help folks (especially newbies). ANYBODY who is on the DISboards is invited to PM me and albort to join that group if they wish to continue the discussion or access the resources;) we make available there. ::yes::

Also - if anybody has extensive Reddit knowledge (i.e. has been a mod or knows how the code works and such) please let me know.

Right!! Guess I'll wait to make most of the spend on the personal, then apply for the biz later.

When they changed to DiscoverIt, my mom automatically was sent a new card. We were not. My card looks different from hers. Not sure my web page looks different from hers when I log in, but I know mine doesn't say DiscoverIt. (Just checked and it says Discover More Card.) I'm also looking for the bonus and don't want to apply if I wouldn't get it.

ETA: Just looked at my mom's account and she doesn't have the rotating categories. Doesn't DiscoverIt have the quarterly categories?

At the moment Discover has 3 It cards: the "plain" (as I call it), the Gas & Restaurants, and a Miles card. There may have been more before, I didn't pay too much attention. My OpenRoad card (as it was called in one of it's many incarnations over the past 15 years) was transitioned to the Gas & Restaurants card some time last year. It gets 2% on gas & restaurants with 1% on everything else, so it's not eligible for the rotating categories. There could have been more types like that before and maybe that's what your Mom has. I think right before the It cards was the More cards so even if they're not taking new apps for them, the products are similar enough that it's not due for retirement yet. If you're getting a full 1% back on everything then there shouldn't be much difference between the two. If it's still the cruddy .25% on the first 3k, then might consider an upgrade or a new card (if it wouldn't goof up any other plans. other than the double cashback there's not much other incentive worth a HP)

@miztressuz

found this on reddit.

Thanks!! That's exactly the confirmation I was looking for. I didn't get a chance to deep dive last night, so much appreciated. The refer yourself is a stroke of genius... I wouldn't have thought that would work.

Reddit SouthFayetteFan can get short with people. Disboards SouthFayetteFan is a lover not a fighter...

Some may accuse me of being temperamental, I just say it's my 2 passions manifesting themselves in different ways! ::yes::
I feel so much better now actually... ok, so Reddit blueskyandgoodwine is highly opinionated about bank account bonuses and should think about being nicer probably. Disboards gottalovepluto is all about practically affording trips I otherwise couldn't and loves helping others do the same!

Speaking of referrals: last night I got on my husband's new Delta Platinum Business and sent the referral email to my email. On fence if whether or not going to go for it, but thought might as well send email now. My surprise was that the email that came has the 70,000 offer that is current now but gives until 1/31/18 to apply. The current bonus offer is otherwise set to expire in November. I probably will apply for it now since I can wait a while to apply.

I have never even got on reddit. I know nothing. I guess I might have to get out of my comfort zone and figure it out!

CSR annual fee clarification: We received our CSR Sept '16, along with our $450 annual fee and our $300 travel credit. This year's $450 fee hit on October 1st, but this year's travel credit won't hit until December. When I signed up, I was hoping to get two years' travel credits for one annual fee and downgrade to a no-fee card. Should I pay the $450 now and then after this year's travel credit hits in December, ask to downgrade, hoping to pay just three months of a prorated fee but still net more than that with the travel credit?
Or, should I just downgrade now, giving up "double dipping" of the travel credit?

you technique already double dipped. when you applied in Oct 1st 2016, you should automatically got the 2016 $300 credit. When Dec 2016 closing statement hit, you should also have gotten your 2017 $300 credit. What your looking at next is the 2018 $300 credit. If you do have something to book in late Dec, early Jan, it could be a good idea to do since the prorate is still less than $300. but if not, might not be a good idea. prorate is $111, so i guess think of it as if its a $200 travel credit.

You are right, Albort! I found my old statements and see where I have indeed received two travel credits! Sorry for wasting your time, but I do appreciate it!!

Just what I needed. Thanks

@SouthFayetteFan Would the reddit group be private? I'd be interested even though I am not on reddit. I'd join for that. I'm not on FB either so I'd have to join either one.

I just signed up for a Reddit [snip] account today!
Joining Reddit when I get home. Waiting for kiddo to get out of school now

After looking at my moms account, I think she has the Gas & Restaurants version, though no where does it say that. Mine is still a "More" account. Anyone know if you can PC Discover cards like Chase cards? My mom rarely goes anywhere, Gas & Resturants is not doing her much good. At least the 'plain' Card she has a chance at something she might use.

yes, u can. i went from a open road Discover card to an IT card. although i didnt get any special bonuses from it. IT was way too powerful than the open road card.

edit: i was also offered the mile card too. I think i should have gone with that card though over the IT.

Has anyone modified a Disney hotel reservation made through the Chase Portal paid for with a combo of points and cash? I checked the portal for my January stay at AoA and the price has come down. I can save $200 cash if I rebook, but I'm hoping I don't have to go through the trouble of canceling the reservation, making a new one, and then calling Disney Wholesale again. If I do have to cancel, I think the points would be immediately returned to my UR account, right?
