SDV August 21-24 2008 WE'RE HOME!!!

Yep, now tell me what do I need to bring to the SDV in Indy... what are my musts and what must I leave at home... I'm hoping AWM is still coming over ... if not my mom is going to go w/ me..

I like the white tower like shelves on the tables..and do the tables have those white coverings on them already?

Those are the table cloths.

 That lime green Mickey head is perfectly blocking me from the pic. You can see Gail (#1Mouse) right to the left of the LGMH in the white shirt, I'm sitting across from her.

I can't believe I have to wait a whole year before another SDV in Orlando. I couldn't imagine the fun this would be. Now if I can just catch up on my sleep. I have one more bag to unpack. Of course, if I would just put things away and not sit and admire all the items I did in classes I'm sure I would get more done. I also did the glimmer mist castle album and plan to put the pictures from when I took my grandaughter to the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique in there.

Another thing with the fire marshall edict, what if someone would have gotten really sick and paramedics called. The paramedics would not have been able to get to some people to treat them. From what I heard the loudest complainers were those who have attended the SDV's quite a few years and for some reason felt they were special. You would think those would be the people wanting to help Nancy and make things right. It's not like Nancy hadn't told us all in the e-mails she sent out what the rules were for aisles and table space.

All I can say is if you want to attend next year start saving you dollars, it is all worth it!!

Gonna keep dancing because this has really motivated me to get going on my albums:dance3:

Buffy, thanks for organizing the breakfast (even though my body wasn't real happy when the alarm went off that morning).

For me, the must-have was the 12x12 3 plastic drawer thingys. I had two side by side and my plan was to have a shelf inbetween, but I forgot it at home. Target Cubes would also work, but build the shelves inside them. You would be able to fit 2 cubes side by side on your work area.

Next year my set up will be 4 12x12 drawer thingys for me and whoever is sitting next to me and then bring a 4 or 6 ft section of wire shelf from my closet and stretch it across the 2 workstations. That was the best style set up I saw.

My plan was to build high, but not so high I couldn't see my buddy across the way.

If you're planning on bringing a Cricut, bring an extension cord and duck tape to tape the cord to the floor.

Hey I would have been a happy camper if breakfast was around 11 but those darn morning people! OMG!!!

So next year, if it's at the Contemporary we can do Ohana, 1900, or Chef Mickey's. We need to decide soon.

I would like honest opinions on the planning on my part, did I do ok? Is there something more we can do? do you want to do swaps, secret pals, etc......

We need a name and I want to stick with the Vintage Mickey on our shirts but was thinking of a new design for next year, what do y'all think?

I guess it would be more than $2 a day for me:sad2: and I wouldn't be able to bring much because of weight limit - but HOW I wish I could come and play!

What to bring?? Pictures, paper, and embellies pre kitted. Adhesive, a few journalling pens, a note book and pencil, inks. Really just the stuff you use everyday. And pick 1 theme to work on, like Disney or school. A trash bag, that red bucket on the table was my trash bin. And the wire shelves fold, I got those at Walmart. They have bigger ones too but I didn't have a container long enough to fit them.

Remember that there are vendors there!! Granted you don't want to buy everything you need but if you do forget something there is a 99% chance that someone will have it.

Buffy you did a fabulous job organizing things for all of us. I loved the little gifts from Lisa and Diana- thank you both so much. I thought about doing something but never got around to it. I ate almost all that candy during the weekend.

I liked the idea of shirts for each day- I know I didn't do my shirt so I didn't match. We need to make a bigger sign to have up on our table(and we need to have a few tables of people) so everyone save up your money.

I think a couple of swaps for us might be good. Maybe a little 6 by 6 page swap and do one page for a SDV photo (like this years swap with the bind it all) and 1 page about me (so we can get to know everyone better). We can all get 6 by 6 albums to put our pages in.

The cardstock swap I was in was really easy (each of us bought 2 pieces of 2 shades of a color of Bazzil and then one person sorted it all and we each ended up with 40 sheets of Bazzil 2 each of 20 shades.

A secret sister swap within the group could be fun although it might be hard also (trying to deliver things for each other without anyone seeing because if everyone knew who everyone else had they could figure out there person.

I will add more ideas later- DH is calling me to return the truck he borrowed for the weekend.

Buffy, you did a fabulous job organizing everything!! Thanks so much.

As for next year, while I did love the vintage Mickey design, I'd really like to come up with a logo for us and make the shirts through a site like Cafepress. My shirt was terrible and the 2nd one I made was too embarrassing to wear it was so bad. I stink at making my own shirts and I know the ones I've gotten for previous cruises that were from Cafe press get worn frequently even a few years later. Another good thing is you can get tote bags, stickers, mugs with the design on it and their prices are pretty reasonable. BTW, I don't work for Cafepress, and I've never made any money off of the shop I had from the cruise, I just had a really great experience using them.

I love Rebecca's idea about the cardstock swap.

I also love the little albums we made, so I'd definitely want to do something similar again.

And I know it's early, but I vote for Chef Mickeys!!!

Hi Everyone!

The weekend was such a great time! This was my 5th Orlando SDV and it just gets better each year! I sit with my gals the Groovy Chicks and it was great to have the Disboard crew in the same section so I could meet some new pals! I missed much of the fire marshall ruckus because I was in a class, but thankfully my table crew took care of that for me! Some ladies were quite nasty to poor Nancy and made her feel bad. Disney was good about the whole thing and the next day they sent Mickey over to the convention center to take pictures with the attendees! He was there for an hour taking pictures! You should have seen the line!
I took 5 classes and by the end I was all classed out! Each year I say I want to take less classes, but when I look at them I just can't help myself!
I was so excited to meet some Disboard folks and breakfast was a perfect way to get know everyone! Thanks for organizing that Buffy and I can't wait to do it again next year. Of course 7:30am did come a bit early considering I didn't go to bed until 5:00am! :scared1:
Diana was kind enough to pick me up some diet coke and since we had never met she just couldn't figure out why this crazy lady was calling her name and appearing so exicted to see her! :rotfl:
I vote for Chef Mickey's next year since it is so convenient to just have breakfast in the hotel we are at (plus it is so yummy!). I loved our t-shirt design, but wouldn't mind a different design for next year. I wouldn't mind doing the shirts with Cafepress either, but if we use them then we can't have a copyrighted design right?
Man, waiting until next year is going to be hard!

PS. Lisa - did you buy a Crop-a-dile yet???? :lmao:
Don't forget to send me the info on the Cape Cod Crop!

You know you wuv me. I had to laugh, notice in rlovew picture, she has a pic of you sitting and working, but not me and Mom. :rotfl2: That throws what I said about you rarely in your seat out the window.:rotfl2:

I love the Vintage Mickey shirts. If we got a dollar for every compliment we received about the tshirts, we would probably have enough money to cover an attendance at the SDV.

Chef Mickey's would be good for breakfast. I wouldn't mind doing Ohana's for dinner if others are interested.

I love the idea of the cardstock swap plus the page layout swap that we did. I would love to do those next year too.

Glad you liked your goody from me. Diana Lyn, thanks for the cute goody bag with the mickey sillouette.

Renee, you are too funny. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Oddly, I clicked with her as she was laughing hysterically at me and my antiquated hole punch. This was before I knew she was from the boards. I haven't gotten my cropadile yet. ACM conveniently have them on sale this week. Oh, yeah, that baby is mine!!!

I will send the Cape Cod Crop info to you as soon as I can. :thumbsup2

I'm so glad you all had such a great time! I know I was thinking about doing this earlier, but I can't even imagine being organized enough to pack for that many days of scrapping. Maybe if I start kitting things now I could be prepared for next year. ;)

Notice she is in her mother's seat working on her mother's pages not her own seat. I didn't get any other pictures on the floor so I will have to borrow some from others for my book. Buffy took lots of pictures of us though.

I didn't go this year, but I'm chiming in anyway on this. I'm married to an EMT, and I have to say those women are just lucky that the fire marshal did say something, and they moved their stuff. IF someone had gotten ill, like Carol said, and the paramedics arrived on the scene, they would have shoved, moved, pushed, thrown, whatever it took to get to the patient. Peoples things would be ruined. Just a side note on that. I know it wasn't you guys doin' the complaining. But he did them a favor.

I'd love to go next year, but not sure that DH will say the $$$ will be there by then. Guess I better start saving...

It probably took me about 20 hours to kit everything. Of course i still have 1 box and 2 bags of kitted items I didn't scrap- I had more of family things and MGM stuff that I didn't scrap so I figure I will use those for awhile but if I don't feel like working on something I will just push that bag towards the back and bring it with me next year. I think I will try to bring a little less unless I plan on coming on Thursday also (which will depend on what is happening with a job for me).

So looking at Buffy's sig, next year starts Aug 27th?

I would love to go, and next year I have a goal of "less swapping, more scrapping." So I think it would be great to kit everything and have a marathon scrap session with friends. Is there a final tally of everyone's page totals somewhere?

Not sure how it will work, if we reach the home stretch with the house buying plan.

But I have to visit my parents at some point, and I can get a local plan, right?

I think the thing that bothered me the most on the Fire marshall getting involved is everyone was given the option of paying a slight additional fee to have double the space. If they had so much stuff, they could have gotten more space, they just choose not to.

I am not on a soapbox here, safety is important. Unsettling that they couldn't see it that way even after an hour of being warned the fire marshall was going to shut the whole operation down.
