DVC Plans More Exclusive Spaces for Members **UPDATE - New Member Lounge Coming in 2024**

Happened in the past. They changed the rules
I think also DVD, from a business and financial perspective, needs to differentiate between direct and resale, even in small form, because why would anyone ever buy direct when resale can be half the cost? To buy an annual pass, to get discounts, to get into exclusive spaces, to avoid resale restrictions 🤷🏼‍♀️ It may not be enough to sway every buyer (those resale prices are clearly SO much better than direct), but certainly makes people consider a 150pt direct contract even if that’s all the direct they ever buy.

If you buy a used Toyota from a used-car lot, you don’t expect to receive the same perks as someone who buys a brand-new car from the Toyota dealer, do you?
That’s a terrible analogy. Especially because resale or direct are paying Disney the “Exact” same yearly for dues. And they both return to use their money paying to enjoy Disney the “same”.

Yes, and resale buyers get all the same things for their dues that direct buyers get. The perks direct buyers get are not paid for via dues, they’re paid for by the profits from the direct sales.

Those direct points if resale or direct were paid for at one time for that DVC price. That’s the realization that needs to be considered. Disney got their cash for those points and they continue to get the cash with dues. Regardless of who owns them.

the blue card or DVC - Y is a benefit above and beyond what the purchase price pays for, and seperate from what the due pay for.

‘Blue card’ benefits are a bonus or reward, to the original purchaser of direct points…
DVD is rewarding their customer, in an attempt do drive further sales…
Anyone purchases resale, is not Disney’s or DVD customer, they get no reward for buying from someone else

Everything else is just confusing the issue

That the thing…the person who paid DVD direct for the contract did get the benefits…they don’t transfer…as they are not part of the purchase…

Dues have nothing to do with it…those pay for the operation of the resort and the management of the reservation systems.

Maybe a better analogy is Costco where if you pay more for the executive membership, they give you back rewards…if you buy a basic one, you get nothing.

Both get to shop there, both are members, but only one is entitled to the perk.

A blue card member has an assigned "guide" that is happy to answer all of your questions before and after purchase and keep you happy and therefore if there someone you know who is interested in purchasing DVC you will suggest your guide-or at least purchasing direct. The perks are a marketing expense that by the numbers, which you can be assured are tracked, far outweigh the cost Blue holders receive back.
A white card member will suggest resale as they purchased and likely the company they used if they had a good experience. There is no future money to be made for DVD in this case.

I think Disney does get a benefit from resale purchases, albeit in a roundabout way…

How many would purchase DVC direct if you were not allowed to sell the contract at some future time??

Not gonna happen. All of the perks are explicitly funded by DVC/DVD as a sales and marketing expense. Those who buy resale willingly agree to forego such benefits. Resale owners still get the room, resorts amenities, park access and all other perks afforded to WDW resort and theme park guests. But they give up the perks which are specifically tied to purchasing points direct from Disney.
I personally never cared about the perks when I decided to purchase via resale. But, the implementation of resale restriction still bothers me.

But Costco doesn't restrict some members from shopping at certain warehouses.

Neither does Dvc.

DVC membership entitles you to stay at exactly one resort! The one you purchased at…

For direct members, DVC allows you the perk, or privilege of staying at other resort, space permitting.

As stated above this and other perks of the blue card are provided to those who bought from Disney ….

If you have a problem with the perks your reseller gave you, you should take it up with them!

The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten

We are talking about membership extras, aren’t we? That has nothing to do with where one stays.

Restrictions are related to how the resorts entered into the trading arena for other DVC

Maybe it will be part of the 60 b $ expantion
a MK lounge would be a huge value add... I just hope they don't take out carousel of progress to do it.
Agree a MK lounge would be a huge value add. That said, given the size of Epcot and our patterns - we rarely get to stop at the lounge for some reason.

While I enjoy the “chance” of getting to use one of the membership extras - we have rarely been fortunate to overlap one with existing plans.

Our kids make it a goal…
Free soda and chip
And the ability to charge phones is a must do for them

At MK, it would be neat to see a lounge go into the former Stitch's Great Escape building. It's been sitting empty for years and they clearly have no other plans for it at this point.
Well, they have no plans we know about, anyway. :p But I agree, that would be a great location. They could put some DVC guides and a place to sign up for tours in what used to be the preshow room, and the lounge could be in the show room. What a marketing tool - “And if you buy only 150 points from us, you can go through that door into the special Members’ Lounge!”
