I voted for Boardwalk as well even though I think POR is a really pretty resort. We also love the easy access to Epcot and even spent quite a bit of fun (kid-friendly) nights on the boardwalk during our last trip. And you are so close to Beaches and Cream if you stay at Boardwalk!!
I booked a veranda on our first cruise and was sure we couldn't travel any other way. We ended up barely using it so it wasn't worth the extra money. That being said, I would go with the Southern itinerary in an Oceanview room.
Like others have said, I found the dining rooms and theater to be really cold. I wore a cardigan every night and was still quite chilly. I am very cold natured though. My husband wasn't cold at all and thought I was crazy. Ha!
