Chili? Love it? Hate it? Beans or no beans?

Love chili. I always make mine with beans.

4 way with beans at Dixie Chili! ::yes::
Is Dixie Chili different from Skyline? When we travel, I always Google what food the state, city, etc. is known for. A Cincinnati search led us to Skyline Cincinnati Chili. We generally like trying new things, but this was a challenge. I ended up scraping the chili off & eating the spaghetti & cheese. DH also scraped the chili off his hotdog & ate it plain. We discovered that neither of us like cinnamon, nutmeg, etc. in our chili. I'm guessing it's an acquired taste. :confused3

So back in college (and I have no idea why) I used to make this cornbread recipe that had whole corn kernels in it. I've long since lost that recipe sadly but do you add anything to yours or just make it real simple?
I make it simple with cornmeal, eggs, milk & oil. When I'm feeling even more lazy, I use Martha White Country Buttermilk Cornbread mix.

I'm pretty sure I've just used Jiffy when it's a boxed mix, but my local Walmart has the Martha brand mix you're mentioning above (they also have the sweet yellow cornbread variety), may have to give it a try with the buttermilk version, thanks for the mention :)

Of course chili has beans. Just listen

I don't have strong feelings about chili (except thinking that certain other peoples' strong feelings about chili are ridiculous).

But I will *fight* anyone who thinks Bullwinkle is anything but awesome.

Back on topic, my favorite chili is a white bean & chicken chili, which I make without chicken and with vegan dairy alts: https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/creamy-white-chili/

Definitely an acquired taste.

I will admit I was not a fan when I first moved here. Don't ask me why or how, but magically over time my tastebuds changed and now I will crave it. (all started with a Skyline footlong cheese coney at Kings Island, I blame the mustard)

I prefer Dixie because it isn't as sweet as Skyline or Gold Star. And my preferred way is a 4 way with beans, and hot sauce is a must.

Good to know. We'll have to give that a try, when we make it back to Cincy.

I don't like it much; prefer my own recipe if I have to eat it at all, and wouldn't actually consider it chili if it didn't have red kidney beans.

My guess ... you and your husband will take a bite, look at each other and say, "still don't get it." :rotfl:
Try a coney and make sure it has mustard, imho that has the biggest chance to slightly sway you.

Think of it this way, not liking it leaves more room for Graeter's Ice Cream. And if you don't like that then there is no saving you. ;) JK

Chili is good stuff especially in cold weather. I can manage without beans (because some in the household do not want them), but I would rather it have the beans.

Good plan. I just told my DH we'd have to try it the next time we're in Cincinnati. We decided it would be best to share something in case we didn't like it. I guess a coney w/mustard it is. :thumbsup2 Greater's Ice Cream sounds good to me.

Those are fighting words in the 'Nati.

Is this my hill after living here so long . . . nah! ;)

FWIW, I don't make scratch Cincinnati Chili, that is left for Dixie Chili (forget Gold Star and Skyline, Dixie is where it is AT!)

My chili is what you'd first think of when you think of chili, and *gasp* yes with beans. I read crackers and frito scoops, we serve ours with Tostitos scoops! So good when you get that scoop with the meat, bean, and melted cheese. Oh yeah!
Don’t get me wrong, I actually like it—I just don’t consider it chili. I have a recipe for it that I’ve made a few times. My husband isn’t a fan though.

I like chili but the spaghetti sauce doesn't agree with my tummy. Yesterday I made a white chili with chicken and beans and it was delicious!

I've been a longtime member of the boards but don't participate anymore since my kids are grown and just lurk now. However, I had to chime in and say that Chili with a cinnamon roll is perfection!!! The spicy and sweet is amazing, with or without beans😉
