Pat Robertson dead at 93.

I had to read Wikipedia to see what controversial things he said. It made laugh… seriously this is what your worked up about. I have not seen this guy on TV since I was 10. I doubt many people under the age of 35 have heard of him. He hasn’t been relevant in years. Certainly not worth getting worked up about.
So, why are you worked up? You seem very invested in this.

And if you don't think the hate he spread is relevant then I know all I need to about your beliefs.

Why he said some pretty outlandish things that I wouldn’t even take seriously.
You're obviously not his target audience, then. Millions of people took it seriously and repeated his hate-filled spewings as if they were true, because he was a 'man of God,' and so it must be true. His hatred for gay people spilled over into everything he said, as did his ranting about a woman's place in the world. His statements came from a pulpit, even more dangerous than if they came from a politician. Hateful, hateful man.

Maybe you wouldn't, but many did. Way too many did. Can you recognize that, and that he was a danger? This is how dictators, for example, rise to power, and he certainly had a great deal of power.

Kirk Cameron
Another piece of work.

Well, he certainly had a lasting deleterious effect on a certain number of the approximately 200 million over age 35 in the US. Just take a look at everyday statements made by certain people these days or the repressive laws being discussed, and passed.

So very true. We've seen it historically, we can see it today.

I’m conflicted. On one hand, I liked your posts, because it made me think about a late loved one’s forgiveness toward horrific abuse and religious cults. As someone who has a hard time with forgiveness, I aspire to be more like that kind of person (the anti-Pat).

On the other, it wasn’t too long ago that many on the Dis were celebrating Osama Bin Laden’s death.

If this is simply about the act of rejoicing and celebrating death - anyone’s death - isn’t it hypocritical to be ok with one and not another?

Also, BrianL, I’m not saying YOU do/did this. Just something for people to think about…

Thank you. Thinking about it is exactly the idea that I was trying to convey. Yes, I get that he was a horrible man, just as Bin Laden was. While I would be happy about the fact that he can no longer commit acts of terrorism, I also lament that our soldiers had to kill him, regardless of if it was necessary thing to do.

I'm also not perfect. I get the inclination - it's human nature. But I also think we can rise above that too.

We once came home from school and my mom had sold our beds and dressers to send money to Pat Robertson. So, yeah, he definitely preyed on the vulnerable, mentally ill, and weak minded. I want to say that he even had a money level of prayer. It’s been years since I thought of this charlatan, but my mom believed more money meant bigger prayers from Pat.

Speak for yourself.

I don't believe in "sin."
So how do you define right and wrong? Is there no right or wrong? Even if your an atheist you have something to base right and wrong on. Don’t you?

What word do you use?

I use two words: right and wrong.

I couldn't care less if he's alive or dead. I just wish he'd **** and stop preying on the vulnerable.

You have to define right and wrong don’t you? Everyone could have their own interpretation if it’s not based on something.
