I love credit cards so much! v4.0 - 2021 (see first page for add'l details)

I want to cancel and rebook something else as well, but I was worried Amex would clawback the credit from the original booking and not reapply it to the new booking. Anyone have any DPs on this?

Unfortunately the clock is really winding down here…

Some late DPs for you. The 2 cards where I canceled and booked something else right away, no claw back. The one where I canceled, then booked something 4 days later, credit clawed back 2 days after the cancellation. Recredited 2 days after I rebooked.

Anyone have Delta vacation credits still lingering? We have credits that expire 12/31/2021 and I wonder if they have been extended. We haven't gotten an email but I will call tomorrow. We are hoping to travel overseas next year, but who knows with these variants.

I have a trip coming up that will use up the bulk of mine. Still have $300 left I'll need to figure something out.

I got e-mail back in July that says this:
"Your existing voucher expires on December 31, 2021, and the date has now been extended to December 31, 2022. You may redeem your voucher any time before December 31, 2022, as long as the last day of your trip is on or before December 31, 2022."

Then a recent e-mail that says this:
"Your existing voucher expiring on or before June 29, 2022 has now been extended to June 30, 2022. You may redeem your voucher any time before June 30, 2022, as long as the last day of your trip is on or before December 31, 2022."

Rather confused why the new extension would make it worse.

I didn't know about this! I don't see anything about it on the Chase site... how do I know if my cards are eligible?

There's a list here:
https://www.doctorofcredit.com/chase-adds-10-monthly-gopuff-credit-to-all-cards-delivery-service/
The Inks aren't on the list, though I've seen a DP of CIC working. But if GC doesn't work, then I'm not sure how useful this credit is.

For anyone in California - there are reports that the charge comes from BevMo and it doesn't credit.

Any suggestions for Audible books to purchase? I am swimming in Plat entertainment credits.
Hope you like business books:

5 Voices, Kubicek/Cockram- this book has literally completely changed my understanding of why people behave the way they do. They have a great podcast too.
Traction- Get a grip on your business, Gino Wickman- if your company has hit its ceiling, a proven program for getting everyone rowing in the right direction, and it actually works incredibly well
Storybrand, Donald Miller- it's not the best products that sell the most, it's the product that communicates the most clearly

So I just realized that some restaurants near us use door dash. I have a CSR. Any chance I’d be able to use the $60 credit before years end? I don’t know how quickly the charges post???
I would think if you used it today you should be good.

I come on here (too) frequently just to read, and see what y'all have to share (it's so exciting) -I actually got to travel a bit last October....but my travel anxiety is kicking in again..... am I alone? Is Jan/Feb a foolish time to plan a trip? I want to hop on a plane (with my excellent mask) and go somewhere warm! I wonder, how many are traveling with kiddos under the age of 7-8?

Just my opinion, but I think it you do it in a responsible way, you should. There's a very common-sense doctor I like to watch/follow, especially when DOOMSCROLLING gets the better of me. Look for ZDogg MD. He's a very common sense doctor who follows the data and believes in educating people rather than shaming them.

I was reading on the site that shall not be mentioned that Singapore Air has first class saver seats available for flights to and from Frankfurt. I did some searching yesterday and found a flight from JFK to FRA on September 18th (I was planning on a Sorrento, Florence and Rome trip around this time) available for waitlist in first class! Since I had the points available from our thrice cancelled Maldives trip I was able to put myself on the waitlist. Since Singapore allows you to book more than 1 seat on waitlist I also booked a flight on April 8th.

If I get off the waitlist I will fly from Toronto to JFK, then JFK to FRA. Once in FRA there are a few flights on Lufthansa to Naples (which I will book once I have a seat!). From Naples I will hire a private car to Sorrento. Plan is to spend 3 nights / 4 days in Sorrento as a base to explore the Amalfi coast, then take the train from Naples to Florence for 3 or 4 nights, then train to Rome for 3 or 4 nights.

I have a flight booked on AC on September 19th from Toronto to Montreal, Montreal to Brussels and Brussels to Rome as a backup (booked over a month ago). This was the best booking that I could secure on miles. Coming back (on AC on October 1st) is Rome to Vienna (23h layover, which is fine as I will spend a day in the city), then Vienna to Toronto. Since AC went with dynamic award pricing it has been difficult to get seats in biz class on direct flights.

I love this. That's quite the fancy seat. I was eyeing it up myself, but I can't get myself to position.

Just want to double check my understanding and math. Amex Biz Plat airline benefit.
I can get 35% back in points for any airline when booking Biz and First, but also when booking economy for my selected airline.
There is an AA flight for 15,000 MRs, so I would get back 5,250. MRs, correct? Making the ticket 9,750 MRs.
That is my understanding as well, assuming AA is your selected airline or you can change it January 1 and then book. I understand it works as a rebate, so you have to have the 15k MR and then you'll get the 5250 MR credited back in up to 10 weeks. I would hope it would be sooner.

Any recommendations for which show to catch in London in may? Thinking about Cinderella. Wish I could get tickets using ur points but that doesn’t seem like it’s possible.
We absolutely love SIX (seen it a couple times in London) and just saw & Juliet last week. It was fun--especially if you know recent pop music (Brittney, Katie Perry, etc.).

We were in London last week visiting DD. Around the middle of the week, all her friends started coming down with covid (no idea on what variant, but omicron is rampant in London so that's the assumption). Most of them had no symptoms, just popped in the tests. Her roommate (double vaxxed) got it and he was sick as a dog for about 3 days and then got better! Luckily for DD, she was not exposed to him because she was staying in the hotel with us. We extended the hotel another week when we left so she didn't have to go back to her apartment. So far she has tested negative every day and it's been 7 days since she saw the roommate. We got her a booster on Thursday last week, so we are hoping she has some immunity going forward as well.
So funny. We were in London for the past two weeks to visit out DD for Christmas and just got back. I've been to the UK 7 or 8 times the past 2 years (during pandemic), and this was probably the most stressful do to the highly contagious Omicron. So many hoops to jump through now, and the threat of testing positive the day before we wanted to fly home was real--especially as we were staying in central London where the numbers were exploding. We mostly ate outside and did long walks around the Royal Parks. I panicked on day 4 when we were pinged by NHS and told to isolate due to a positive case on our flight (this is happening all the time now). Fortunately, they'd recently made a chance allowing vaccinated people with non-NHS vaccines to avoid the 10 day isolation with daily testing. Before you had to have your vaccine from the NHS. I'd bought a bunch of cheap lateral flow tests right when we got there to bring home, so we ended up using those and buying more to test at home. So far so good.

Our DD is 22 so she just became eligible for her booster. She was able to get an appointment in early January, but we found a walk up near Soho and she got hers last week, too :) She is at Oxford and so far her group of friends have avoided, but this thing is a different level of contagious.

Back to points ...
For this trip all three of us flew First on BA in both directions on award tickets so that was really nice. The Concord lounge at LHR is amazing. I've been flying First most of my recent trips due to the pandemic. When things shut down, BA really opened up the award charts and I was able to rebook many of our club world (business) seats to first. But sadly those days are gone, and I haven't been able to get any first seats for our next 3 club world trips that are on the books for 2022. I'm sure I will get sympathy from PlanePrincess! Due to the type of plane that they fly out of SFO, I really prefer First. Club world is often the 2-3-2 layout that requires you to climb over people, etc. i have quite a collection of "lounge suits" and "wash bags," LOL.

DH and I both have the Chase BA credit card to help take the bite out of the award seat taxes ($200 off Club World or First), but my struggle to have them credited continues. The Club/First seats do not seem to automatically trigger requiring tons of follow up with Chase and BA. I'm currently on day 43 of our last one and still nothing.

We stayed the first few nights on points at the Hilton Paddington from our Hilton Aspire cards. I loved my card so much, I had DH apply and his came right before we left. I highly recommend the Hilton Paddington for one night stays before flying in or out of LHR due to the proximity to the Heathrow Express. (15-20 minutes). You literally walk off the train, and go about 50 yards to an escalator that takes you into the hotel. It is *so* easy, and for Diamond members they do decent upgrades and there is a lounge with a free cocktail hour. I stay there on most of my trips. This time we just stayed on arrival, and I was regretting not having a one night stay at the end while I was stressing in the cab on the way to the airport :) The rooms are a little tired, but the ease of travel can't be beat. I want to say they are typically in the 55-60k points per night range.

I applied for the SW priority card last month and my card finally arrived while I was gone. I'll be going for the Companion Pass (DH has had it the past 3 years), so planning to do a bunch of spend starting January 1st. estimated taxes should take me most of the way ...

A belated Merry Christmas and early Happy New Year to all!

Don't forget the Chase $10 GoPuff credits for each card. Buy a gift card for each and you can get something of value after a few months. I keep forgetting to do it... should probably set a calendar reminder...
Sadly they aren't in our area so nothing for us. 1 or 2 suburbs away is good but not my address. Weird.

This is why I think our March trip to London will get canceled. We'll see but I'm not overly optimistic. My sister's neighbor was stuck in Ireland for Christmas. They were supposed to fly home 12/23 I think, but their 24 hr COVID test took 29 hours and they missed their flight. Of course there are worst places to spend Christmas as long as you have a place to stay, but of course that wasn't in their plans and their kids were crying in the airport.

I have an Amazon Prime Credit Card with Chase that I'm not using, and I don't currently have a hotel card, so I was thinking about adding a Chase hotel card, closing the Amazon Prime card, and transferring the available credit to the new account - the problem that I'm having is that I cannot decide between Marriott and IHG!

Benefits of Marriott are the welcome bonus is currently three nights up to 150,000 points, which would be sufficient to cover a three-night stay at Dolphin or Swan. There's also a secondary bonus where you can earn 10x points on $2,500 in gas stations, groceries, and restaurants in the first six months, which would be an easy number to hit.

Benefits of IHG - I stay at Holiday Inn Express the most when I travel, so those rewards may be more useful to me, even though the sign-up bonus is only 125,000, and IHG points are valued at slightly less than Marriott points.

I don't want to include the World of Hyatt card, because it doesn't have a downgrade path if I decide not to renew the annual fee.

Welcoming any advice or considerations - looking to add the new card in January and transfer the available credit from my Amazon Prime card to the new account. Chase has let me do this in the past.

my dd absolutely loves SIX also, she is dying to see it again. But unless it tours again, not likley.
We love the music--listen to it all the time.

I would watch the restrictions--hopefully they will ease by March. But I have a trip booked at the end of February that I may cancel. I think it would be my first UK cancellation during the pandemic. My other trips were mostly to visit DD and this one isn't so I'm really debating. I love London and we had a great time--I was so grateful to be with DD for Christmas--but IMO travel is actually getting harder and more stressful as the pandemic goes on. If you don't go frequently, I would probably reschedule if things don't change.

Such a bummer for your sister's neighbors, and I would have been like those kids! But assuming they were flying to the USA, that's weird about the test delay. I haven't flown to Ireland recently, but most most cities in Europe and the UK are very good with local testing options and lateral flows usually take 30 minutes. We brought Abbot binax now proctored tests with us, and they were about 30 minutes. I would recommend those for anyone traveling right now who needs a test to come back. It's very easy as you don't need to book a time slot ahead of time, etc. You can order through eMed for 6 or another company that sells 2 or 3. To anyone planning travel to Europe or the UK right now, FlyerTalk is your friend. Seriously. This stuff is very difficult to navigate.

The Amazon Prime is a no fee card and 'if' you have a prime membership it earns 5% on your purchases. You can probably keep the card and transfer most of the credit if that is needed for your new card. Since you already have it, I wouldn't ditch it.

If you stay at IHG, that's probably your best card. I stay IHG but I also stay Hyatt, Marriott and a few others. Whatever gets me the best deal and room.

I've seen the IHG card as high as 150,000 points. That's a big enough difference to get a room somewhere. Keep your eyes open for better offers on the card prior to your application.

Between the two, I would go for IHG. Here's why:

1. IHG card gets you Platinum Elite status and stay 3 nights on points, get the 4th free. No other hotel program does that. Marriott gets you Gold status, but it's stay 4 nights, get 5th free.
2. Anniversary FNC- the IHG one is up to 40k, while I think the Marriott one is only 35k.

Double check my info, but that's my two cents.

I'm also going to recommend the IHG card. If you stay 2 nights or more at an IHG then you may want to consider this to be a keeper card and not downgrade. The free night 40K certificate each year will likely be more valuable than the AF. PlanePrincess and I each have the OG IHG card with the $49 AF, but even if it were $89 we'd keep it. We use our FN certificates at the Candlewood Suites which is 3.74 miles away from WDW. We each make a one night reservation and then when we check in, the front desk will combine the reservation so we don't have to switch rooms. There are also a few WDW good neighbor hotels in the IHG network. I've yet to see any of the rooms less than $89 per night. I am a big proponent of keeping a card with an AF as long as that AF brings you a benefit that outweighs the cost.

Marriott has become increasingly difficult when it comes to using FN certificates and they are going into dynamic pricing for award stays. Therefore, even their points will wind up less valuable down the line.

Personally, I would not rule out the Hyatt card based on the no downgrade path. The FN certificate each year is far more valuable than the AF. The award pricing for hotel stays at Hyatt on points are significantly more favorable than IHG or Marriott. I can honestly say that my one regret after being in this hobby for the last 10 years is not jumping on the Hyatt bandwagon sooner. There's my two cents. Hope it helps. :flower3:

I'm still nervous about the cancellation policy on my ski trip for February in VT at a pricey Hyatt, throw in my bad knee that's been bothering me lately and I'm now looking at alternative vacations.
Any suggestions for a great Hyatt property that would be in a warm weather location in Feb. I have 180,000 Hyatt points to use. Thanks!

ETA: We are in MA and it would be me, DH, DD14, DS13 and DS10.

Hawaii? The Grand Hyatt in Kauai is beautiful and I have used my points for there.
