Marathon Weekend 2017!

I so bad want to have costumes for all 4 races!! But I've been looking online for ideas and, at this time of the year, I just can't justify spending that much money. I have zero sewing ability, so I'm thinking of maybe getting a couple of sparkle skirts and reuse them with different shirts. For the Tot race I tied together a tulle skirt, cute but itchy.

Do you all dress up for each/all the races?

I'm doing Goofy so just 2 races to think about for outfits. I've got outfits lined out for both. Neither are really full on major costumes, but some special running shirts with just normal running sparkle skirts.

This will be my second 10k at WDW. I turn 65 soon and accomplished 10k last year. This has been a beginning for me in the 2016 World Marathon. I have been training but started experiencing pain in my left ankle. My daughter who got me into running (she runs...I walk/run,..but I mostly powerwalk ) said its probably tendinitis. I have been off it for 2 weeks (justbeen doing moderate walking). My plan is 5k next week, then skip a week and then 4 miles Christmas week. I will do moderate walking (1 mile every or every other day) in between. Will this be enough to be prepared for 10k on Jan. 6th?
I think so. I think it's smart to be conservative at this point if you are experiencing pain.

I'm sure you know, but the first half of the 10K course is very different from the second half...first half: all highway, no parks (zzzzz). Second half: Epcot/Epcot Resort area. So if my mind if you can have a strong first half, you'll experience a mental/emotional pick-me-up in the second half that'll carry you to the finish. :)

I don't do costumes, personally. I attempted costumes for one race weekend and didn't enjoy putting the outfits together, and wasn't very good at it, so I just use what I have. :)
Dangling appendages aren't very aerodynamic, so shorts might be in order too :rotfl2:
WHOA...VISUAL!! :faint:
So...anyone want to run a marathon (or half, 10k, 5k or any of the above) next month?
:scratchin yeah okay!

And now it just happend, got a cold :-(

Going to bed, directly after work and no runs for me this weekend :-(

Get it out of the way, so you're good in January! :mickeyjum

At least, that's what I'm telling myself. I think I'm FINALLY getting over the junk I've been struggling with for the last 3 weeks. I actually was able to complete my 10 mile / 23 mile combo over the weekend, as I was feeling better, but that just kicked my donkey for this week.

My rather pathetic goal is to feel better for my last long run, so that i can get sick from it... and then be better for Marathon Weekend. :goofy:

Just finished my first of two 20-milers this cycle. My pace was fine but I sure didn't feel like I could keep that up for another 6.2 miles. I was fine until mile 19.5... I really have to figure out how to still feel good past that point. No pain, just got tired. And if I had to eat another gel I might have thrown up. It's late in the game but next long run I might try adding some real food.

In the past I've worn a She-Hulk iron on on a green tech shirt (my avatar pic), and I've stenciled a picture of Wall-E's Eve flying on a white tech shirt. This year I'm going full costume, my mom made me Giselle's "curtain dress" from Enchanted in running costume form! I really hope it is not an impediment even though the material is supposed to be athletic. I think I'll have my husband waiting at about mile 18 with an emergency change of clothes in case of unexpected chafing or overheating. It's sleeveless and pretty short so I'm hoping for the best. In fact I'm excited to wear it.

What kind of real food do people eat on their long runs? I noticed I was getting hungry toward the end of my 16-mile run. Had a clif bar for breakfast and Gatorade chews throughout the run.

When I'm training, I don't eat anything if I can get up and run first thing in the morning. For days where I have a gap before starting, I have a banana and a bagel with peanut butter on it before heading out. But then I stay strictly liquid on the run.

Does EmergenC work? I was thinking about trying that too, worrying about getting sick late December.

I have used EmergenC for years. I take 1-2 a day when I start feeling unwell and keep going until I feel better. If nothing else, I don't feel like I get quite as sick and I recover a bit faster. It could be placebo effect, but I'll take it either way!

I never really have figured it out. I once tried yogurt-covered raisins but, um, that was way too much fiber for on the run. A gel or two never gives me trouble when we're talking about a half, I only have these problems on like 18+ mile runs so I haven't had much opportunity to try things.
I will say personally I'd eat more than a clif bar before a run of that length but I have plenty of time on long run days to digest a bigger meal before I head out.

I have been eating Peanut Butter M&Ms (if you call them real food!) and pretzels on my long runs. I got really sick of them though so am thinking about trying fig newtons and pretzels on my last long run. Plus the bananas at mile 11 & 19. :)

This is how I feel about Zicam! I use the nasal swabs if I start feeling sick and just use the whole box. I swear I either don't get sick or recover 100 times faster than if I don't use it. Placebo or not, if it works use it! :)

I wake up early and get out on the run soon after so eating before the run is usually nothing. On longer runs I will force down a small banana.

During the long runs (16+) I will do gels only, no real food for me.

Probably a placebo effect too but I have not gotten sick while taking them so will continue to do so. We travel the week of Christmas so that increases my anxiety for catching something by being around more people and in a different climate.
