I only do Orlando trips once every three or four years. We do other vacations a lot. In fact, I just got back from a road trip through the Midwest We had BBQ in numerous cities on the way to a stay in the French Quarter in New Orleans, along the Gulf Coast and back to Wisconsin. No plans, booked hotels on the fly and lived to tell the tale. Anyway, our Orlando trips involve Disney AND Universal and sometimes Sea World and Busch Gardens.

What I like best about Universal and we always end our vacation there:

It is more relaxed.
We stay at an EP Hotel so few waits.
We love our favorite hotel: Portofino and feel like we are really back in Italy.
Transportation by boat, walking or pedi-cab is easy, quick and doesn't require blocking off a huge amount of time.
Reservations for restaurants do not need to be made 180 days in advance.
I am able to unwind and decompress after the spreadsheets of WDW before I go home.
