Jambo! The newest AKL Information thread

For anyone who was wondering about the current policy for allowing balloons inside AKL, we have un upcoming CL stay and have asked DSS about it. We got that reply by email today:

The rumors are true! Our beloved Mickey balloons are permitted in
Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge at this time. We do ask that they stay in
the rooms and are not taken out on the balconies for the safety of our
animals, but you are more than welcome to bring them back from the theme
parks.

This is a rather nice change! We're so delighted that we will, finally, be allowed to bring those balloons in our room!

I have a suggestion since this will be your first time eating at Boma. Go to the free Culinary tour that day - it's held at either 3:45 or 4:00pm most days (meet at the Boma podium).

You will get to see all the pods and what Boma is serving that evening. You also should get a soup sample and a zebra dome!

The first time we dined st Boma (many years ago!), we never made it to all the pods (too full too fast!) and missed some of the best stuff! :sad1: We never made that mistake again! :rotfl:
I think we will try this too since we will be trying Boma for the first time.

Hey thanks for including me. Question has anyone had an In-room massage while staying at AKL Jambo House. I'm contemplating it since I plan on coming in and the only thing I think I will be doing is going to Epcot for F&W meal but I wanted to mostly hang around AKL. If no one has done the in-room how is the spa there in general I don't want to take up too much time there max 1.5 to 2hrs.

I know lol :) sometimes I go to Spa's and they very quick and then sometimes they are like wasteful. Also I want to limit my traveling around WDW that day since I'm not going to be renting a car and will be using Disney transportation.

So far my itinerary set in stone:
Flight gets in at 8:40am

1pm Lunch at Morimoto Asia in Epcot

5:15pm Dinner at Boma

I have a fast pass which I can change if necessary.
3:15 Mission Space
8:30 Frozen Ever After

Check in is at 4pm hoping I an get in the room before then or I figure I can fit a massage in the Next day before I check out.

Just a heads up...Morimoto Asia is in Disney Springs, not Epcot

It seems that you are doing a lot of bouncing around though....From DME, to DS, then to EPCOT, then back to AKL, then back to EPCOT?

If you weren't heading to Morimoto, than that would save a bunch of time, as well as foregoing the Boma's dinner too....I usually save an AKL/V TS for the days that I have at AK park..

Ok so I had to look it up because I thought My event for F&W was in Epcot but it's actually in DS (unfortunately the Reservation doesn't come up in my MDE itinerary). So I'm going to cancel my Fast passes for the Day I'm actually in Epcot for the most of the week so I'm not worried about those.

I'm was going to Animal Kingdom on Thursday but maybe I can shift my plans to my arrival day as I didn't really have plans to do much there. I am going to Boma for Breakfast the next Morning so I guess I don't have to do Dinner there the night before if push comes to shove. I heard the dinner and breakfast were good so I kind of wanted to try it as I've never been.

Maybe this will free up some time?

We will be taking our first family trip to Disney and staying at AKL September 8-14th. (hoping to add one more night!) Add me to the list please. Thanks!

....I cannot comment on the 'spa' aspect of it, but my DS visited the health club several times and he had positive things to say about it.

My daughter is really interested in doing the animal enrichment activity at Jambo House that takes place at 11:30 a.m. Anyone know how long this activity usually lasts? I'm trying to figure out our afternoon plans and didn't know how much time this activity usually takes.

When we did it a couple of years ago i think we were done by 1:30 or there abouts.

Oh, wow. I was not budgeting two hours. I was thinking an hour or less. Glad I asked. Thanks!
OOPS - I should have read your post more carefully, I was referring to the lunch w/ an animal specialist which we paid to do and occurs at 11:30 at Sanaa in Kidani so my info. is totally wrong!
Hopefully some one who does know the actual time of the Jambo activity will enlighten us - I wouldn't be surprised if your estimate was spot on.
Sorry for the misinformation!

No need to apologize. I'm kind of happy that it might not be two hours, as my husband might have been a little antsy by that point to get over to Hollywood Studios. :-)

We are just back from 2 nights at AKL/Jambo with a savanna view DVC studio. We had a fantastic time! First time at AKL- it was my 61st birthday celebration! I wish the DVC units were on a lower floor, but no matter; on the morning of my birthday while drinking coffee on the balcony, I was joined by zebras, a giraffe, and a wildebeest! The room was on the Arusha savanna/kudu trail. We had dinner at Boma one night, enjoyed the pool and then pool bar for the afternoon, and did the culinary tour at Jiko/Boma (meet in the JIko lobby at 4:15, it's free). We also had my birthday dinner at California Grill with a window seat, so prime viewing for the Magic Kingdom fireworks! We were only at AKL for 2 nights, with no park tickets at all. I never understood how people could go to WDW but not go to the theme parks, until this visit to AKL. I can't wait to go back!!

Our boys participated in all the animal enrichment activities last month. They last about 20 minutes each. The cast members will give you a daily schedule of the activities so your child can earn all the reward beads. It was great!
