No, "I" can't. "I" can't wear heelies. "I" can't smoke in the parks (except in designated areas). "I" can't bring Fido along for the trip. "I" can't wear offensive, inappropriate t-shirts to the parks. "I" can't do lots of stuff I might otherwise want to be able to do, and is legal to do, on WDW property. At AKV, "I" can't even have straws or baloons in my room. Do those restrictions offend most people? This restriction is really no different.
How is it any more ridiculous to ask you NOT to smoke on the balcony than it is to ask a non-smoker to endure you're smoking on the balcony? I'm being serious here. What makes your "right to smoke" carry more weight than a non-smokers right to avoid smoke?
The fact is, here, the majority is what's going to be catered to, because they are the ones that would have a more direct effect on Disney's bottom line.
I feel for you. Really, I do. But what it all comes down to is this: Disney has made a decision. No amount of griping or complaining is going to change it. The non-smokers didn't make this decision. Disney did. So, if you want them to change their minds, hit them in the wallet. Sell your points and stay offsite, or buy another timeshare that does allow smoking. If the bottom falls out of the DVC market, and occupancy rates drop, Disney might revisit the decision if they can trace those drops back to the smoking ban. My supposition, as I've said before, is they've done their homework and come to the conclusion that...well....continuing to cater to the smoker isn't a good financial decision.
