Who’s excited about the Barbie movie?

Owned a few Barbie dolls when I was a child. My mother made clothes for her and knitted some too. My older son works for Mattel, so I have been supplied with many more collector ones over the years. I'm not excited about the movie in the least. I'll wait for it to be streaming.

I’m SO EXCITED! My sister & I are going to see it tonight!

We’re making a girls’ night out of it & we’re both dressing up - I’m blonde, & I have a hot pink dress w/ matching hot pink heels & a floofy pink-blue feather thing for my hair. (The blue is to go w/ my light blue fingernails & electric blue toenails & blue-beaded bracelets.) My sister is brunette, & she has a bright blue dress w/ bright blue heels w/ hot pink accessories.

My sister & I played w/ our Barbies long after after we were probably too old to play w/ Barbies.

I don't have a strong desire to watch it, but my daughter wants to go. I didn't even buy her any Barbies, we are strong Disney folk! In any case, I'm hopeful that I'll be pleasantly surprised like I was with Indiana Jones. I'm more looking forward to Oppenheimer.

We were looking forward to Indiana Jones- my husband is a huge fan of the movies. But, we both thought it dragged in spots. I actually fell asleep on and off. Then again, I dozed of during Mission Impossible last weekend also. Action movies are not my thing.

We’re seeing Oppenheimer next week. Looking forward to it.

Where's the surprised face emoji.....o_O:eek: I'm not saying Indiana Jones was a perfect movie, but I really liked it and glad Indie ended on a note far superior to Crystal Skull.

I thought Mission Impossible was fantastic! The action was enjoyable, and slightly ridiculous, but not as ridiculous as John Wick. My hubby and I left thinking the same thing...Tom Cruise may not have the best public reputation thanks to his beliefs, but he sure can make a fun movie.

We had a similar discussion on the way home. It’s said that Tom Cruise saved the theater industry by releasing Top Gun only in theaters and not streaming originally. For that, he gets major props in my book.

Indy and MI were both good. I’m just not an action movie gal. I also fall asleep during Star Wars movies. *running for cover now*

I fall asleep too lol! Our theater has heated, reclining seats. We usually eat lunch or dinner just before the movie starts (ordered and brought into the theater), so that doesn't help lol

Yes, the recliners get me every time. The theater we go to has recliners and it’s a dine-in theater and bar. So we eat dinner, have a drink and order dessert during the movie. Then I wrap up in the blanket I brought with me (everyone brings blankets) and fall asleep.

I saw Oppenheimer and Barbie back to back yesterday. Both excellent. Both recommended.

This Barbie movie is not a kids movie. If you want a Barbie-based G or PG movie, there are dozens of movies available. This movie is about existential crisis, patriarchy/matriarchy, societal pressures on women, and an examination of the Barbie brand.

Both of these are on my list of "must see in a movie theatre" movies to get the full effect. I checked the movie calendar here last night and both of them are leaving the theatres near me next Wednesday & Thursday. That means I have to squeeze in two action packed movies within a few days. :headache: Not how I wanted to watch them.

On a good note that means more new movies are scheduled to fill the time slots. Great to see movies are back in full swing. popcorn::

I skipped Crystal Skull as I didn't think it would be as good as the first three and I didn't want to end the series on that note. I have thought about seeing it before going to see Dial, but I think I will leave it off the list.

Yes, I wonder if that's going to be the addendum to his career and life, that he was a crazy loon in personal life, but Damn! He can make great action movies. 🏍️

Our theatre has the reclining seats too. The theatre is built in such a way you can't even see the row behind you, unless you get out of your chair and walk forward a step. It's like we are all on separate balconies. It's great so we don't hear popcorn crunching behind us. popcorn::

I usually bring a big sweater or coat to drape over me like a blanket. :teeth:

Dial of Destiny was a lot of fun. It wasn't as compelling as Raiders or Temple, but it ended the franchise on a good note. We both really enjoyed it. Funny enough. 3 weeks ago we saw a taping of the NPR show Wait Wait Don't Tell Me and the surprise guest was none other than Karen Allen who lives here in Massachusetts. She was a real delight and it was fun seeing her cameo in the film.

NOT a kids movie.
A lot of adult themes.
Woke and all inclusive story lines also.
VERY colorful, tons of pink
I hope #3 doesn't completely ruin the film.

Kids don't usually pick up on the adults vibes in shows such as Barbie They focus on the underlying kiddie theme instead

#3 is the only reason I am interested in it. Never played with Barbie dolls, preferred stuffed animals to dolls, it's the subversive stuff that interests me. My 2 DDs never had them, they did have a few American Girl dolls. I would not have encouraged Barbie, I would not have wanted them to have such an unrealistic representation of a female form. I have seen the foot clip, and I find it quite funny.

Certainly not rushing out to the theater this weekend to see it.
