MagicBand+ at Walt Disney World *NOW AVAILABLE!!!*

Genuine question and I don’t mean to be a Debbie downer but why are people so excited about this? Is it the new styles available from a fashion sense or that this little puck will vibrate and light up from time to time when you’re near a statue or something along those lines? I just don’t get it. I was super happy to not have a magic band once they allowed the Apple Watch to be used. And with taking away fp+ I don’t use my watch other than the one time to enter the park since we won’t pay for g+.

I'm most excited about the potential this technology has to create interactive moments in the parks that are unique to what's currently offered. The bounty hunter challenge in Galaxy's Edge looks the most interesting out of every feature. Who doesn't love a challenge?! I'm hoping they continue to build these challenges around all of the lands throughout the parks -- that will really help create depth within the lands and allow frequent visitors a chance to continue through the challenges, similar to Sorcerers of MK. We always loved coming back, collecting new cards, leveling up, etc.

I'll admit it's limited with its current capability now, but it definitely has potential, and that's really cool. I think that's why a lot of us are excited.

I'm excited mostly about the bounty hunter game in HS. We used to love playing SOTMK, so are hoping this might be a fun alternative!

I wonder if they will sell them online in advance of July 27th. We leave a few days later and I doubt we will be able to easily find them when we arrive to WDW that first week they are out. Wish they allowed those staying on property July 27th or later to purchase them ahead of time---but that would be an onsite perk and why would they do something crazy like that?!
I am in the same situation. We arrive on-site July 31.😞 Our first night is at the Dolphin.

I agree. I think we'll probably pass on this extra cost, we have apple watches and old magic bands and don't partake in park scavenger hunts etc. And with all things Disney IT I expect them to be glitch city for the first little while at the very least.
We'll leave our 2 available for someone who REALLY wants them :)

MagicBand+ Setup Guide

Ahead of the release of MagicBand+ on July 27th, Disney has posted a MagicBand+ setup guide for guests purchasing the new wearable. Here’s the MagicBand+ setup guide:

  • Step 1 – Power your band on by pressing the button on the back once, and tap the band to your phone.

  • Step 2 – You will be directed to open or download the My Disney Experience app.
  • Step 3 – Follow the instructions in the app to link the MagicBand+ to your Disney account, assign it to a Guest and pair it to your mobile device. Then, use the app to make sure your band is charged and the software is up to date.

DH and I decided it is too much effort for us, we'll pass. That saves us a little money.
I think the other 5 on the trip will still want them......but they are much younger

I’m with you. We arrive on 7/31 and I hope there will still be some available onsite by then!
My guess -- obviously totally speculative -- is that the relatively late arrival of MB+ was to build an adequate supply. The very simple MB+ that accidentally arrived in stores in late April (nearly three months ago) were likely the first to arrive in the warehouse. I'm sure more have been arriving over the ensuing months.

I'm there July 23 through July 30. I plan to buy a MB+, even though I will only have it for a few days of the trip. We return in May 2023, so I'll get more use out of it then.

Everyone will buy these, and then maybe there will actually be a stock of normal ones for the rest of us. That's kinda what I'm hoping.

If we already ordered magicbands for our November trip and they have already arrived, will we still be able to purchase one of the new Magicband +?

You probably won't be able to order them with the resort reservation discount, if you've already "used" that discount to buy the older ones, but of course you could buy some non-discounted ones from Shop Disney.

so what time does the MDE magic band page updates? 6Am EST just like ADR? need to make sure I am ready for July 27th
So, as you may already know, I post the New Pre-Arrival MagicBands Daily on the Shopping Thread (if there are any). I’m not sure of the exact drop time, but I’ve been up as early as 5-5:30 am and they’re already added. For example, there are a few newly added standard MB’s this morning. You can click HERE to view today’s added standard MB selection, if anyone is interested. I will be posting the daily MB+ options there as well.

I didn't realize I could just use my apple watch. Do you just need to have the MDE app on the watch for that to work? And you just tap in as if it was a magic band?

Any info on which ones will be available? They mentioned 25, but I was wondering which colors are already confirmed

Looking at the $34.99 MagicBands that are available to order with pre-arrival hotel reservations, you save $14.99. I wonder if that will be the same for MagicBand+ or if Cheapek will squeeze some more money out of us. (Remember when we'd get one included in the cost of the hotel reservation?!)

I doubt they will give that much discount, knowing that they can easily sell for full price at the parks or shop Disney

Essentially yes. So just like you’d use what’s on your apple wallet your park ticket would be stored there and then just pull up the card on the watch and tap in.
