MAJOR changes to Genie+!

Ha. I honestly think they just o
Like onsite can book G+ at midnight and offsite at 7am? <sarcasm>
I honestly think that they put that out to get people in the mindset of things changing. This announcement is must step 1. That’s why I’m not paying much attention to this midnight nonsense.

I eventually think that on-site will be able to precook in advance (perhaps in the same timeframe as their current 30/60 days for other things). Deluxe May get the earlier of the times.

So
We were there this week (just got back), and that's exactly what we did and we stacked LL's up with always something to do for 4-5 hours at each park and we were done and ready for dinner - very easy and much more enjoyable than past trips.
Just to clarify:

You booked lighting lanes for later in the day? How? I though you had no control over the times?

If they did go to dynamic G+ pricing, maybe in an effort for fairness & filling out the lower booking seasons, they could offer $10/person during Value1 & 2, $15 during avg. booking periods, and $20 for peak rather than starting at $15? Yeah, probably not.
I could see 20 / 25 / 30 as a more likely base if they went that route.

Is Epic Universe enough of a looming threat to keep them from going too high too fast on the pricing?

I think it goes even higher than that. I'm guessing 15/35/50 if they do three tiers. Deluxe will stay where it's at to give the perception of a good deal with no actual loss to the company.

I'm willing to bet Universal is going to jack up the prices of their Express Pass if you want to use it at Epic Universe.

I personally don't think advanced booking will return. The best thing they can do is cap sales and make it like MaxPass. You can't use it til you are in the parks

Some of these prices people are suggesting are absolutely absurd. You can compare prices to Universal's Express Pass but that system is nothing like Genie+ and Lightening Lane. Yes you can only use Express Pass once for each ride in Universal but you aren't ever prevented from using it on a ride because there aren't any left like with Lightening Lane. They would have to completely overhaul the Genie+ and Lightening Lane system to even consider going to prices that high. $200 a day for a family of four and not even guaranteed to be able to get on each ride like you can at Universal? No chance.

You don't but you can sorta push off when you go to book yours. Our DISer friend had to do that for one of the parks I'm blanking on which one but she had Genie+ for the day but wanted the times for her afternoon park and the times in the morning were too early for return so she just waited a while to actually book til the LL return times were later in the day.

Its why they are capping sales. It will sell out now.

Even with capping sales the way Disney's system works with return times and capping return times will still prevent people from getting lightening lanes for every ride they want. Unless they completely scrap the return time system they can't or shouldn't charge ridiculous prices when they can't guarantee you get to go on the rides.

If you have a hopper it will automatically show you times after 2pm for your second park. Otherwise you have to wait until enough LL are booked to push the times back enough to get a later time.

They aren't just capping return times they are also capping how many can buy Genie+.

For example right now anyone can buy it but starting June 8th say they let only 5000 people buy it instead.

Anyone on here NOT buying Genie+? Our group of 7 are planning on not buying it. We will have 2 days at HS and 2 days at MK (including a Xmas party night) and we weren't going to get it for Epcot or AK anyways. We are rope drop/close park people and stay all day. And we don't like to zigzag through the parks.

Tell me we will be okay without it...please? lol

Correct, you can't assign the time, as its based on when an LL becomes available. - But, by refreshing at different points throughout the morning (as indicated by Mackenzie) focusing on the ride you want in the tip board as the day progresses, you can get earlier or later return times. You grab the one you want and move forward around things like lunch, shows, and character greets. I find all different choices popping simply by refreshing.

We didn't buy it. After using it in December and hating every blasted second of it, we decided to forego it on our trip 2 weeks ago. Rope drop and early entry for the win. Then midday pool breaks and evenings in the park. Delightful.
