What are the group's thoughts on the Amazon 5% back card? We use Amazon a lot at home, and for our business. We get 2 CPs, use URs and MRs some, have cash back cards, but aren't really playing the churning game much. 5% with no effort seems like it is worthwhile?

Cards we have:
Me-- AU on DH SW personal (5+ yrs) and DH Disney (5+ yrs, sock drawer)
Me Biz-- SW Biz ('20)
DH-- SW Personal (5+ yrs), Disney no fee (5+yrs, sock drawer), CSR (11/20, most personal spend here)
DH Biz-- AmEx Green ('19, employee cards here), Cap1 ('19, reports to personal credit I think, nearly all Biz spend goes here, 2% cash back), CIP ('19)

I have a question for the more seasoned churners here: My husband had a Capital One Venture card several years ago and got the sign up bonus at that time. It has since been downgraded to Quick Silver. He received an email with his name on it offering 60K bonus miles with a $3K spend in the first three months. The email has a reservation number and access code. Does anyone know if he can actually get this bonus since he did get one before?

I’d get the CIC - 75k UR bonus plus 5x at office supply stores, which generally carry Amazon GCs. Load those to your Amazon account, and boom! 5x on Amazon purchases (and in URs which, to me, are more valuable than cash back).

Good advice - also Chase Freedom/Freedom Flex with 5% on grocery category this quarter - 9% if you are in the first year of your freedom flex and have the additional 4% first year grocery bonus as well. My first year is up in a few days and I have been busily snapping up Disney/Amazon gift cards to use up my $1500 Q1 spend before the extra 4% runs out at the end of the week.

Only advantage of the Amazon card is that they sometimes runs special deals for Amazon card holders.

Just heard the UK has relaxed its entry requirements effective Friday 1/7. Don't need to test before departure anymore, and only need to do a lateral flow test on arrival from Sunday 1/9.

DS is traveling back to the UK on Friday so will benefit from the first part, but he will still have to do PCR on arrival as he lands on Saturday. PCR is already booked and paid for so he would have been doing it anyway.

Edit: Apparently, just applies to England at the moment - the rest of the UK has their own rules, but usually follow suit within a couple weeks or so.

So glad to hear this and hoping Scotland follows suit. We’ve been in Scotland since Dec. 24 visiting DD over her holiday break from the University of Edinburgh. The pre-test requirement was so stressful this time, especially since DS had been in school and hanging out with friends up until our departure. I was sweating it big-time and was so relieved when all of our tests came back negative before our flights to LHR/EDI. I so didn‘t want DD to be by herself over the holidays. We did the arrival tests before even leaving EDI after we landed. We’ve had an amazing time since we’ve been here. No new restrictions resulting from Omicron, and we’ve been able to do pretty much everything we had planned. And we’ve all been really relaxed since we’ve been here. Assuming no nasty surprises with the testing to return to the U.S., we leave here on Sunday. Worst case with positive tests is that we hole up in our flat until we get cleared to travel. I’ve got my work computer with me and good WiFi in the flat….

Poor Puggles! He typically gets Nature’s Recipe stew but Amazon is out of it so I went with Purina Beyond. I don’t know what it is but it looks like chunks of tofu instead of the cage free chicken it claims to be. I think I am going to donate the rest of the case. It just looks disgusting for the little Prince to be eating.
We recently started feeding Fresh Pet multi protein. Both of my Bostons love it. This is after my very picky Boston didn’t even like the expensive Farmers Dog! I like with Fresh Pet that it looks like the actual meat chunks that it is.

Hi there!

I currently run with CSP, CFU, and CFF cards for my daily spending. But I am running into the situation of not really ever using the CSP card anymore...is it worth keeping around? I was originally going for the trifecta as I like the PYB feature when it came to grocery stores, but that seems to have gone. (I mainly buy DGC's from my local grocery store (Meijer if you are from the Michigan area) as they offer really great specials).

Flights are done through Frontier for less than $50 round trip so I don't have an interest in a CC earning miles and I use my Verizon CC to pay for my phone bill.

I did see the Ink Business Preferred card and while I do run my own business (etsy) on the side, I don't really make any of the purchases that would get me extra benefits from the card.

Thoughts?

I use my CSP the least of my cards too. But I keep it around because the URs transfer to travel partners with the CSP. I find I get the most value out of my URs by transferring URs from CFU and CFF to my CSP.

Could use some thoughts, feeling braindead.
DD, 26 (almost), 800+ credit score. Works full time, but doesn't make a ton.
She would love to travel when she can, but since she now pays rent, disposable income has greatly decreased.
Trying to think of a travel card, where she could earn something useful, I know it wouldn't be any premium cards, but anything is better than nothing.
She has some Delta miles, but got the pop up several months back on a AF Delta card (she has the Delta Blue already, and puts a little on it regularly)
She does get 1099'd as an editor for a small publisher, so perhaps a business card isn't out of the question.
Low annual fee, or none preferred.
Lowish MSR also, she venmo's her rent every month, I know Chase allows this as MSR, does anyone else? Other then venmo for rent/utilities her spend each month is probably only a couple-to few hundred. I could help with a little amount, if I had to.
We fly from MSP, Delta is preferred, SW works, just have to take connecting flights. I'm guessing AMEX wont' allow the venmo thing?
She is 0/24, has a Disney card, Delta Blue and Quicksilver.
Any suggestions?

I last applied to a SW Biz card in 2019 (pre-pandemic) as a sole proprietorship using my SSN and was auto approved.

Do I stand a chance doing that again now?

sure you can apply as SP with your SS number…if it’s for the same business card it would have to be closed 30 days before reapplying and 24 months since the bonus posted

I would be charging all of your airline tickets to the CSP, that probably gives you the best travel insurance. After being stranded in Orlando for 48 hours and charging our flights to our SW card I decided to always charge airline tickets to CSP/CSR/Amex Plat, one of those cards will always be in our wallet.

What about the Citi Premier, great SUB 80K points, $95AF, and earns 3x on travel, restaurants, gas stations & grocery stores.

I guess the question is what do you intend to do with the UR's you are earning?

I transfer mine to Hyatt when needed at the present time. I need a card that I can transfer with, so I'm keeping the CSP at present.

Everything is up for change and even though it's in my wallet until Dec 2022, what happens in between now and then will determine if I keep it for 2023.

I make my decision based on the value the card has given me. First year, the SUB paid the annual fee. 2nd year I used it for offers that paid out $42.67 and will use the $50 credit added for hotels soon. So, next annual fee I will check value again as it's my transfer card. If I decide not to pay the fee, I won't cancel it. I will ask Chase to downgrade it to a fee free (freedom) card. In addition, the card earned some UR as well. It all adds up to 'pay' for the reason I need the card. And, as a Freedom card it can be upgraded back if I decide I need a transfer card again. After 4 years, or 48 months, I can also reapply for another SUB and keep it as a Freedom.
