Chicago Marathon 2018 (Oct 7th) DIS Meet Race!

We did not make it to Louisville, but got to Bowling Green, KY. Drove 5 hours today and have 6 tomorrow, maybe a little more probably need to stop at least twice and let Mallory stretch. She is quite stiff. Her ear is not looking so good but she is getting her medicine so just waiting it out.

Hope to sleep in a little and tackle the rest of it tomorrow. Safe travels everyone!

Oh, sweet Mallory! Hoping tomorrow is an easier day for her and a quick finish to your travels! Drive safe!

I am so frustrated, angry, upset I don’t even know what to do at this point! This evening was my final training run for Chicago. A nice, easy 3 miles.

About halfway through the run I came up on a guy walking his dogs. I swear I’ve seen and passed him numerous times over the months. I thought I’d given them a wide enough berth as I passed. Apparently not.

As I passed them, one of the dogs turned, lunged and latched onto my forearm. I’ve got two deep punctures, one of which immediately swelled up like it had a shooter marble in it. The guy gave me his info and I had to walk a mile and a half home to get the car and drive to the urgent care.

The urgent care saw something on my x-rays they didn’t like, so now I’m sitting in the ER waiting on anything from an all clear to a CT scan to possible surgery. I’m exhausted.

The good news is that nobody thinks I’ll have to skip Chicago (yet). The bad news is I’ll be running it on two high powered antibiotics with attendant side effects. I certainly won’t be in a condition to shoot for the big sub-4:00 major PR attempt, it doesn’t feel like.

Thanks for letting me vent and moan a little!

OMG that's awful on all accounts. Hoping everything works out in the best case scenario. How stressful. Vent away.

Vent away! As the owner of two dogs I am sorry this happened to you, and mad at the owner for not being one on one with a dog with aggression issues (leash, runner, person or some other type). Fingers crossed they saw a shadow and you get home to sleep soon.

Do not be surprised if urgent care or the ER file a police report as some communities mandate that for dog bites.

Oh no!! I am so sorry that happened to you and I hope you mend quickly.

I may be staying the obvious but be careful with running with the potential side effects of the cipro antibiotic type. I thought that I saw you mention in some older posts that you have had achilles issues. Cipro has been linked to ruptured tendons.

Sending wishes for a speedy recovery!

We were on our plane ready to head for Chicago when we had to deplane because of delays in Chicago due to severe weather.

Not an auspicious start to our trip. :)

What was your estimated arrival? Looks like it should stop raining sometime after 10am or maybe 11. :/

Ugh!

Thank you all for the supportive words and well wishes. They are much appreciated! As an update, the ER got a clearer x-ray that showed nothing left in the bites. The doctor and I also decided that the antibiotics were best left in reserve at this point, so I don’t have to worry about the side effects in Chicago. All in all, a late night but one that turned out as best it could given the way it started. Run safe, everyone!

Great news!

@camaker Sorry to hear about your bite but it looks like things turned out as well as can be expected given the circumstances. I hope you make a full recovery and good luck to everyone running this weekend!

Roll call for Friday Expo people? I'm trying not to be that person who arrives at 9am while everyone is still figuring things out and I am avoiding traffic. So I'm thinking maybe I'll get down there around 11????

But we'll see how antsy I get.

My husband texted me the following:
You can't control the weather. You can't go back and train more. You have done everything you can. Just let the ball roll down the mountain.

To which I replied with a gif of a panda rolling down a hill. So that's my state of mind right now.
