Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT Information & Questions

I seem to remember someone saying that the pools had flotation items for use. Our daughter uses a floatie that has the arm bands with the chest piece. That's not a good description but someone with a toddler will probably understand. . I don't want to take up panning room if this is something we can just use while we are there. Any insight would be appreciated.

Agree with PP. But, when my kids were in that "arm floatie" age with the device you're talking about we found even the smallest Poly life jacket was too big/cumbersome for their body types and swimming style. For awhile we packed it and were glad we did.

That's what I've was afraid of. Thanks!

Hi Everyone,

Got back a few days ago. We had a standard room booked at Poly through a agency. We got Fuji 2316 view of the marina. We had a great stay. Staying there felt very grand. We did a split stay with the Beach Club, I enjoyed the Poly more. One thing the beds and pillows at the Beach Club are better then then the Poly. But the Poly has the monorail who cares about beds.

Beach Club just recently got refurbished. Hopefully Poly catches up soon! I love its location and amenities (can't be beat), but some of the rooms have definitely seen more wear and tear!

Glad to hear you had a great stay!!

Glad you had a great time and enjoyed the Poly. We feel the same about the 2 resorts. I'm glad we tried the BC, but we didn't love it. The Poly is definitely our favorite of the two ;).

Hi everyone. We just returned from 8 nights at the Poly and I just wanted to share some thoughts on our trip. We had a standard room in Aotearoa on the first floor. We asked for a first floor room as we were travelling with two other families and wanted to be able to all sit outside together when the kids went to bed. Although we originally requested Niue, we were very happy with our location. We had a room with a view of the monorail, and it was very quiet outside of our rooms with little to no foot traffic. Getting anywhere on this resort is really not a problem, and the grounds are beautiful. We walked to the TTC with no trouble at all, as well as walking to the GF along the paths. We enjoyed many breaks around the Volcano pool and the kids really enjoyed the slide there. The activities in the afternoon for the kids were also fun. We really enjoyed all of the food onsite including Captain Cooks, Ohana (breakfast and dinner) as well as probably the best value, the Polynesian Twilight Feast for room service one evening. We had no trouble at all with Disney transportation including the buses, monorails, and boat service. Trader Sams is a must do for anyone who would like to sit down for a fun drink with friends. We went twice, and had great service and fun antics on both occasions. One of our favourite features of staying at the Poly had to be the nightly view of HEA from the beach or pool. It was a great way to finish a day when you are not in the parks to experience them there. It was really nice to be able to watch from the pool with the music piped in. In all, we have to say that we really enjoyed our stay at the Poly, and would recommend it to anyone. We stayed at WL on our last trip and thought that would be hard to beat. Although we like the pool better at WL, it was hard to beat the convenience at the Poly and all of the amenities it has to offer. We will definitely return at some time in the future.

Hey all! Checked in Saturday. We had requested Somoa but weren't sure what would happen. We got here and found that we were in Aotearoa so we were a little bummed.

Then we went in the room and looked out the sliding door and we have a perfect full view of the castle. So yeah, I'm ok with walking to the pool. ;)

The dream is real folks.

Just checked out from a 7 night stay at the Poly and put in a request (via my TA). We booked a standard view and got Samoa 2nd floor with a view of the Oasis pool (will update with a picture once I have time/now at work). At first I was kinda bummed we didn't get a balcony, but the extra space was great. It was so hot and humid the past week we didn't even open the sliding door and probably wouldn't have used the balcony if we had one. Also didn't see anyone else on their balconies at the Polynesian and Grand Floridian during our entire trip. The humidity was insane.

Positives:
- Food: Literally everything we ate there was amazing. 'Ohana did not disappoint, and Capt. Cooks was great (girlfriend had the pork nachos THREE times this trip, haha).
- Buses: Had no problems with the bus system. Waited no more than 15 minutes for a bus and were never that crowded except for when we did AK at rope drop.
- Location: Although we stayed in Samoa, we would have really been fine with any longhouse in the end as the resort was way smaller than I expected. Rarotonga was wayyy closer to the GCH than I expected (and might request that instead of Samoa next time). I would even consider it connected to the GCH.

Negatives (unfortunately):
- Rooms: Now I know that everyone paying to stay here isn't paying for the room itself, but more for the location/staying close to MK. However, the room we had was pretty worn. Lots of dings and paint smudges on the furniture, and our closet door wouldn't close since the doors were crooked. The first day we checked in, our bathtub wasn't draining at all, so we had to have someone come up and fix it. I wouldn't pay rack rates for these rooms. The replacement ceiling light for the fan was so bright! It's literally like a spotlight on your face when you turn it on!
- Monorail: They really need to figure out another way for guests to get back to their rooms besides just a monorail and boat. One night we were stuck outside MK for an hour and a half since the lines were backed up so much. When the lines started moving people were getting really aggressive and started shoving other guests to get on. Half of those people weren't even staying at the resorts as the resort monorail was 90% cleared out at the TTC.
- Housekeeping: Most days the housekeeping was great, however they were really inconsistent on when they were cleaning the rooms. Once they woke us up at 9am to clean the room (declined service since we were still sleeping), another day we came back to our room at 2:30pm for a pool break and they were in the middle of cleaning, and our second to last day they didn't get to our room till 5:30pm.
- Staff: The CM that checked us in was great and overall staffing was good, but there was a couple times we went to the concierge and felt like the CM did not want to help us at all. I'm not too uptight with customer service as I work in the industry, but the CM's weren't even smiling.
- Pool: People waking up early to place towels on the pool chairs, then leaving for the parks is real. Woke up a couple times as our rooms faced the pool to find people doing this. It's funny to see around 25 people in the pool, but have 75 towels out on chairs throughout the day.

Although the negatives I noted were pretty lengthy, I would stay here again. Hopefully the rooms will receive a minor update soon. However if you cannot get a decent discount I would consider one of many other Disney resorts to stay in.

I hope this helps those of you who are planning a trip right now!

Just returned from 8 nights. Second floor room in a Rarotonga with a monorail view. Very convenient to Great Ceremonial House, pool and TTC. We were generally happy with the resort, although our room was showing some wear and tear (chipped furniture, a stain on the chair). The biggest issue was the soundproofing. We could hear everything going on in the room next to us. Footsteps on the 3rd floor also tended to come through the ceiling. Not sure if this was because of the connecting door (I think it probably was), but it was pretty annoying at times.

Enjoyed the twilight feast - it is a lot of food.

Here now if anyone has "simple" questions. My first Poly visit, so I'm no expert. We "won" the lottery and were given Samoa connecting rooms. I'm very thankful. Magic Express took about 40 minutes door to door.

Glad your request was met! Have a great time :wizard:.

Thanks for your review. Glad you had a great time and enjoyed the Poly. Sorry you didn't get your request, but glad you were happy with your location :).

January will be here before you know it! Enjoy the planning :wizard:.

A question: since the second floor rooms (hotel side) don't have balconies, are the (inside part of the) rooms themselves longer than the rooms on the first (patio) and third (balcony) floors ?

Yep. They use the extra space in the rooms for what seemed like an extra nightstand. I opened the sliding door once and sat on the daybed facing the pool. There is a weird wide railing on the balcony. It seems like if you were sitting on the balcony, most of your view would be obstructed.

I'm just back from two glorious weeks at WDW! We did a split stay between GF and the Poly and while GF is beautiful, Poly is still my hands-down favorite.

I booked LV CL and was assigned room 1504 which was very close to the lounge. The view was smack in the middle of the bungalows, which was kind of a bummer, but watching HEA or the Halloween fireworks from my patio certainly wasn't a bad thing! Would I book LV again? Probably not, but I'm glad I tried it out. I'll likely stick with GV next time...or go all in and book TPV. We'll see!!

All the CM's were great and I was glad to see some of the "regulars" (like Irv!) in the lounge. Lipoa worked in the lounge every morning and, tbh, seeing her clearing plates made me a little emotional. Still, she was always incredibly outgoing with all the guests and really took time to make everyone feel special. I hope she eventually ends up back at 'Ohana!

Housekeeping was really consistent and the room was always cleaned early in the day. We had turndown service - now with Ghiradelli chocolates! - between 4 - 5pm. FWIW, CL no longer has an expanded selection of toiletries and there's no more sunscreen and mosquito repellent in the room, either.

Transportation was fine and I appreciate having bag check at the monorail/boat dock. The only place it doesn't make sense to me is when you're heading to Epcot; you have to go through security at the TTC and then again when you arrive at the park. It's not the biggest deal in the world, but I'm hopeful Disney finds a way to streamline the process.

Of note for anyone arriving soon-ish: I found air conditioning to be VERY spotty and, as I'm sure you all know, AC in August isn't optional. I encountered more than one un-air conditioned bus and monorail and several buildings that weren't even close to being cool enough. Come on Disney, turn it up! It's hot out!

Happy to help answer any Poly questions you all might have!
