Official 2017 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend Thread

Is it just me or does the 5K shirt kinda look like tech material instead of just cotton?

I thought the same thing... but I don't want to get my hopes up and have it be a cotton shirt. I usually just toss them. :(

Downstairs, near the half marathon bibs. You should see it directly across the floor when you enter.

Thanks! I'll be there tomorrow trying to get bumped up one corral... hahaha, not like it would ever happen but one has to dream right?

I save all of my cotton ones to eventually make into a quilt - it's just way too hot to wear them, especially with the amount of screen printing on them - completely traps your body heat it. I won't get my hopes up either. :sad1:

I'll think good thoughts for you! You never know when Disney magic comes along! pixiedust:

I don't think a Disneyland race has ever gone full black flag. I know once or twice we've had red. I think they will only shorten or elevate the warning status if the morning is too hot.

The one big advantage of the early start is that sunrise isn't almost until 6:30. So that's an hour to an hour and a half on the course on the start depending on the corral. I think it will have to be an exceptionally hot morning to get cancelled.

Also the flag system for those who don't know here is Disneys:

Actual temperature to colors varies per race. I did PeachTree this year in Red. So I'm not overly concerned about being able to handle it. Most Disney events are green flag (which I couldn't squeeze in). My guess is we are going to be at min a yellow flag most likely a red through the weekend.

I'm actually kind of surprised that rD hasn't made a post about monitoring the weather yet. This is unusually hot for this race weekend.

Lol I was just checking the official guide to confirm some information and a weather advisory for Sunday does pop up. Probably a good idea for everyone to review it.

Weather has gone down from a high of 99 degrees to 95 degrees with some clouds. It's too early still to tell where we'll be at, but as @Keels said earlier: we have plenty of 'dark' time before the sun comes up.

Fingers crossed something goes better. Still going to give it my all - not giving up yet!

Thank you, friend! I feel I have about as good shot as anyone can have - one corral behind and two POTs from recent races to show that i'm capable. If they decline me, then I'll do it on my own. Nothing will hold me back (unless it's really hot then I'll just die)

That wasn't there when I made my initial post. They need to issue an advisory for all three races and kids to be honest. Right now Friday is forecast to be the worst. Local news is saying it won't get to 100. Everyone else disagrees and I'm not sure who to trust at this point. I'm tempted to go local because I would think they would have a better handle then AccuWeather or Weather Channel but who knows.

Part of my problem right now is I spent a good portion of the summer cooped up inside because of the east coast heat. And I really don't feel like spending another weekend like that. I may go screw it and go out anyway.

This just makes me more mad though that they took away Powerade Zero from the in park stands. Regular Powerade outside of races tends to make me gag.

All I know is it is going to be wicked warm this weekend and yet, it will be actually cooler there than it is here at home (we are reaching 109-117 up here with this heat wave). Everyone needs to be very cautious, drink lots of fluids (including electrolyte replenishers) and stay in the shade as much as possible. I feel so bad for everyone doing the half - good luck to you all and I hope that you finish before the heat gets really bad!

Don't quite know what you mean by "do it on my own" but corral hopping is not a good idea. You would be better served getting to your assigned corral early and moving toward the front than trying to sneak your way past the volunteers or climbing over the fencing into the next corral up. Hopefully Runners Relations puts the new corral sticker on your bib!

"Doing it on my own" meant that i'd say in my assigned corral and get my time sans pacer :)

I would never corral hop! That's so dishonest and terrible.

I'm sitting here watching the time tick by, waiting for 3:30 when I can leave my campus, head home and grab my suitcase (and feed my cats), and drive down to Anaheim. Why is the clock going so slowly??? :rotfl2:

MaxPass is pretty, pretty sweet and definitely worth the $10 if you're thinking about testing it out. Works across both parks, so no running back and forth, you get PhotoPass and ride photos AND you only have to wait 90 minutes versus two hours to pick up your next FastPass.

Oh! And if a ride goes down, you get a "multiple experiences" FastPass to use at anytime instead of an anytime FP for that ride like previously.

I'm afraid to inconvenience my friends and ask for support on Sunday with this heat. But if there any race that I could use the support in its this half. I'll live if they don't but this is the one time I could really use the option to be able to swap Powerade Zero bottles.

I've been in it all day today.

When the sun is not beating down on you (AKA Noon to 3 pm), it's not bad and it's downright pleasant if you're in the shade. I left the parks around 3:45 to go watch baseball and came back at 6 and it was lovely.

If it's stressing you out this much that you won't even leave your hotel room, maybe you should reconsider participating. It doesn't seem like you'll enjoy it.

And if Powerade Zero is that important to you, take cash and pop into any of the 50 gas station/convenience stores we pass on the course and buy one.

I'll be fine. I just have a natural tendency to over worry about stuff I'll be fine on race morning. This isn't even probably the worst conditions I'll have raced in. That goes to the Bear Chase 50 that I ended up falling short by 6 miles where it did top 90 mid race. With no shade. For six miles of the loop.

Hadn't thought of grabbing Powerade Zero from gas station though. Thanks for the suggestion.

Currently waiting for flight to go to LA.

I am waiting in the merch line in the upstairs ballroom. I would guesstimate about 100 people here so far. If anyone sees me, say hi! I'm wearing a black SparkleSkirt and a purple Hogwarts Running Club tee.
