I love credit cards so much!

I'm wondering what all of you credit card-savvy people have as far as store credit cards. I have a Kohls and Target and am thinking about getting a JCPenney card - I was at my sister's this weekend and she says that she gets a lot of $10 off a $10 purchase from being a card holder. It's definitely not a big bonus, but $10 a month is $120 worth of free socks and underwear at least.
None...there's no store card that comes close to matching the benefits of the big points cards...and I don't waste space with them.

Ok....this is to weird..... I placed an order on Aug 11 using Wm and chasepay.....up until yesterday it sat pending...I got some of the order delivered already...I just looked and it's gone!!! I Sm'ed...has this happened to anyone? what is going on? I've been waiting to see if I got the 10x for the deal....looks like I got some free merch instead? what in the world?

For me it would depend on award availability and number of miles for the award vs number of points to pay for the flight. Barclay generally only approves 1 card every 6 months. If you want to go that route, I'd suggest the Aviator card and a Cap One Venture card.!

Ok,the flight is 80k aa points or $325 Oop. What's my best plan of action?
We are currently in the middle of meeting spend on our CIP but I have non-business spend I can put towards a new bonus.
Thanks!!!!

I thought I read that this same thing happened to someone else so I looked back to previous posts. On page 313 August 8th Gottalovepluto posted a similar issue.

My Walmart charges posted after my items were delivered today! 48 hours after they disappeared from "pending" fwiw. I received the total 10x on my CSR & CSP after having received 10x on my CFU a few days ago. (I purchased a mix of Visa and some non-Walmart e-gift cards.)
What happened? Which cards disappeared, and which did you get 10x for? I just had this happen, I made one purchase to try it out, got my stuff, and bam! it was gone..... So I have no way to see what points posted b/c the purchase isn't there. I sm'ed...waiting for an answer....

I ordered some pens and notebooks for DD along with my $250 Walmart gift card. I have only received the pens. I just checked my Chase account and the transaction isn't there - not even pending.

maybe it's the gc's that do it? I didn't even order any.... just some merch. anyway I want to order a gc, but I'm waiting to see what happens with this charge!

2-3 days later the charges reappeared as posted and I received the 10x points. Someone on here advised me to just wait, they'd post soon and they did. They posted right after my items were delivered, but that may have been coincidence. I wouldn't worry until you hit 3 business days after you received the items. (This was on my CSP and CSR, bought a variety of gift cards, shipments got delayed, charges dropped off my card a few days after sitting there in pending. I think it had nothing to do with the cards and everything to do with Walmart's weird system.)

I've seen AA miles valued at 1.4-1.5 cents. So, to my mind 80,000 X 0.014= $1120. Cash, OOP would be my rec. That was just a quick review of a couple different bloggers but 80,000 seems like a lot of miles compared to the OOP expense.

What else will you use the 80k points on? I find that's the best way for me to evaluate what the points are worth to me. Using other's metrics doesn't work because my redemptions aren't the same as say TPG's one-way redemptions to Timbuktu that are available under blue moons only. What do you practically see yourself using AA points on in the next year or so? To me, I can get over $325 out of 80k aa points because I travel solo domestically across country a couple times a year and that's enough to get me a couple trips on tickets worth $600+ just for coach (when traveling from Nowhere, West Coast to Nowhere, East Coast tickets are expensive :) but that's just me).

My biggest takeaway was noting that the charge posted to my CSP/R didn't coincide with when I purchased the products on the purchases where the charge dropped off for a couple days. On those, I purchased 8/4 but my Chase cards show transactions dated 8/8 and posting 8/9. Just saying I would definitely wait to see what happens with this charge, but don't wait until like the last week of Aug if you decide to do other purchases.

That's how I was looking at it too I just wanted to make sure it was right. Lol After reading all the different sites my brain goes to mush.

I did the same trip in May and am doing it again next month for 15k points. I'm new to air travel and I guess the holiday rates just surprised me. I have it booked again for Jan and probably will do next May as well so I don't think I want to sink all those points in one solo trip. Heck, when I go in Jan it's only 45k total for me and both kids!

I'd skip it. Find a card that gives you a sign up bonus of over $120 and save yourself 12 trips a year to JCP to buy $10 worth of free socks and underwear. Yes, it could be $120/year over the next few years- but JCP could realistically go out of business or close stores in your area in the next couple years. Just saying. Also, at 12 trips a year you will end up spending money there you otherwise might not have, I've learned my resistance to impulse buying isn't as strong as like to think it is... (Oh, fyi $10 of $10+ your total purchase can't be under $10.) Also, we recently received notice our JCP card will become a JCP MasterCard, changing it from a store card to a use anywhere credit card and therefore falling under 5/24. REALLY wouldn't use a spot for this card!

Not credit card related, but since we're all trying to save money I'm cross posting this here...

When you buy a $10+ Starbucks eGift card using Visa Checkout, you get a $10 bonus (for a total of $20 Starbucks eGift card): https://starbucks-promotion.cashstar.com

This promotion is limited to the first 225,000 people, so HURRY. It's still working as of this posting. I also noticed it's processed through CashStar, so you may want to use an Ink card with Visa Checkout because it might trigger bonus UR points.

The bonus is reflected at checkout (no waiting a day or more to receive the bonus), and I received a $20 Starbucks eGift card almost immediately after submitting my order.

Good luck!

I'm curious about whether you think this applies even after surpassing 5/24. I got my 5th Chase card in April of this year, and since then have gotten 4 more (AmEx x2, Citi, and Barclay). I figure that so far as 5/24 goes, it's better to acquire more cards now so they will all "age off" more or less at the same time. In what other way would a JCP card be "wasting space"?

These are good points. I actually hate to shop (except for The Container Store, and IKEA every now and then) so I'm not too worried about impulse buying. There's a JCP in the same shopping center as my usual grocery store, so no out of the way trips. But changing to a MasterCard is interesting. I wonder if there might be at least something of a signup bonus once it switches.

I got mine!
FrequentMiler posted that if you are new to visa checkout and sign up through the Marriott site you can earn 1k Marriott points with this purchase.
