Angry lifting block out dates

OP: Have you contacted Disney about your thoughts on this? Simply going to a message board won't solve anything. Do it now, do it in the park when you're there.

If you feel you've been wronged, make them know about it.

No, I knew when I could go and I bought the passes that fix those dates. I could have bought the cheaper passes if the first 2 days of the trip were open.

If you are a platinum of gold annual passholder and truly bought the higher priced pass to cover this 10 day period specifically then write Disney and explain why you are upset. Outside of that I can't see anyone else getting much for complaining about this.

Disney charges higher prices in the summer because MORE PEOPLE want to go in the summer.

Not this year. Higher resort rates (and single day tickets) but fewer operating hours (compared to last year) due to lower park attendance. And less staffing to save money at end of fiscal year. Lose-lose-lose for this summer.

Sure, as I said earlier in the thread, this summer has been an anomaly in that regard.

RELAX!!

My family and I all have resident weekday passes. These passes are blocked out the majority of the summer - which is fantastic for us because we don't live in Florida during the summer. We planned an onsite trip the week of Aug 14h, the first week available for our passes. Now i'm reading attendance is down for August and the first thing that comes to mind is FANTASTIC! I hope it holds until the 14th....

A large portion of people that have AP's with blackout dates are snowbirds, they aren't going to be in town for the 10 days anyway. Another portion is local, and might pop in for a few hours or one day.

Also, lets all remember, the rides closing aren't that popular. When was the last time an AP holder went to Epcot just to see Ellen? LOL

Be HAPPY attendance is down!!!!! :)

Is the OP mad about increasing crowd levels or that the blockout dates were lifted? I know one can lead to the other, but crowd levels could still increase even if the blockout dates hadn't been lifted due to the closure of GMR. I know it's not a super popular ride, but many of us ride it for nostalgic reasons and the fact that it's closing could prompt people to make last minute trips to ride it one last time.

I booked a last minute long weekend trip for next week so I could ride GMR one last time and my sister and a few other friends are coming, too. Yesterday I learned that my neighbor also just booked a short trip a few days after me for the same reason. My husband's boss is doing the same thing the 2nd weekend of August. None of these trips were planned before the announcements at D23. And none of us have the APs where the blockout dates were lifted.

It makes me wonder that if there is an increase in crowd levels, which the OP complained about, what percentage of that increase are actually people whose blockout dates have been lifted?

Everything posted thus far are directed at the blockout dates being lifted. Hence the title of the thread.

I actually stopped the other day and asked myself this same question. Local Gold AP holder here. I go to the parks at least twice a week and I know for a fact that I have not been on Universe of Energy within the last year or more...My plan for the 13th is go to Epcot early and get my last Stupid Judy ride in go on the new Mission Space green and then go to DHS and use my evening GMR fp

It's rather comical but DGD (who is 9) loves both the rides that are closing down. She was quite upset with the news. She won't be back till October, well after they are closed. She was doubly upset because we skipped both rides on our trip in June. So often we just say, oh, we'll catch that one next time. We really need to learn not to do that.

Disboards is all about discussing and critiquing all aspects of Disney, from celebrating happy moments to venting about gripes of all sizes. It's a fan board after all, and fans are passionate about everything from their favorite rides to whether the resort mugs this year have handles.

Just to address the word, "anger" though. There are sometimes good reasons why people are angry at Disney. But there are even better things to be angry about in the rest of the world out there. And if Disney is the thing to be really mad about in your life, you probably have things pretty good (or you haven't been paying attention).

The reason I even bother to respond to this thread is to say: there are some people on this board who come here to vent occasionally (and so do I). But there are some people, I've noticed, who are constantly negative, complaining, and angry about every perceived slight. While you can ignore them, the problem remains that people who are always angry and entitled and negative impose a cost on society, the people around them, and this community.

I hope we can be constructive here, because if Disney puts that dark a cloud over our heads with the decisions they take, then we should recognize that Disney isn't good for our wellbeing or those around us, and move on.

Both of my kids are upset about the Great Movie Ride closing down! We will not be back down there until September and it will already be closed. They are very sad that they won't be able to ride it again. Not sure than anyone in my family cares that the Ellen ride is closing down though.

You win the Internet for the day! Here Here!

Great perspective when it's really needed.

There is so much planning that goes into a Disney trip now. We all do our best to to select the best time to visit. I can see the frustration when Disney changes hours, blackout days, etc in the eleventh hour. You plan and you plan, and then the parameters that you planned around are changed. This goes for a lot of things at WDW, not just this issue.

I had such high hopes for Ellen's ride. She's so funny. It could have been so much more. It's just not quite there.

Disney attendance will probably be down until Star Wars land opens. Obviously Pandora alone didn't bring the crowds in as expected, but when there is Pandora, Toy Story, Star Wars, Ratatouille, Guardians of the Galaxy, Tron, . .Then (if the economy is well) you'll probably see record crowds. But maybe not .. as I would expect Disney to continue to increase ticket prices EVERY year until all this new stuff is done.

I am sure a lot of people are putting off vacations until at least the second half of 2018 or 2019 to at least get a new land. (I know I am).
Even people not like us have heard Disney is just a bunch of construction zones and that a "ton" of rides are closed and they've heard of this new stuff coming out "in the future" .. so why go now? When it is hot and has tons of construction walls and rides closed.

That may be why this didn't phase me. They've been screwing around with hours and other scheduling things so much this past year I've just gotten used to it. This is just one more thing, and really not a big thing to impact much at all. Not like park hours, EMH, etc. Still don't know what they'll do with EMH at AK after 8/19. That's a way bigger ? than what this

Yeah, but at the core it's much simpler -- it's a theme park. Disney World. Maybe people shouldn't plan with the expectation of getting in line for the SDMT after making an 8:45 reservation at BOG, expecting to get in at 8:00 because people on the internet say you can, then expecting to get your food super fast because you have expectations of hopping out of there to be first in line to SDMT, then being mad when Disney changes the hours or the morning procedure, or the monorail is down and you get there late, or your food comes out slow or something. It comes down to the fact that the internet leads people to expect certain things that someone else pulled off, when really it was never guaranteed.

I couldn't care less about this change to APs. It won't significantly affect attendance, and if it draws a few people in to visit an extra time or two, then good for Disney. No reason to be mad because someone else will get to go to Disney World even tho this doesn't benefit me at all.
