Grossest Thing You've Seen at the Parks

I wear tennis shoes (with socks) to the parks. The end.

Yeah, we do too. We've learned from experience. The other footwear that we'll wear are the water shoes a lot of people will wear to the beach or to public pools. They're sort of like sneaker bottoms with a mesh top. The important part is that your toes are covered.

The kids know we have a strict "no toes" rule ever since I got a toenail KICKED CLEAN OFF  :scared: when the idiot in line in front of me backed up and ripped my middle toenail off. You think puke's a protein spill, you should see how toes with no toenails bleed-stuck pig city! Those cute white open toed sandals that I wore were trashed by the end of that day...

I was quoting you because I thought you were supporting the people who were saying that they may be high maintenance but they expect people to get pedicures before wearing sandals. Otherwise, I'm not sure why you told us about your pedicures? :confused3

For the same reason you posted why you only get one once a year. :goodvibes

On our last WDW trip, we were getting on the plane in Austin when the woman in front of backed over my toe with her suitcase. YOWCH! I didn't realize how bad it was until I sat down to take a look. I agree about the blood. And of course, I was in the window seat of the plane and would have to crawl over my DH and a complete stranger in a full plane to get to the restroom. Luckily, I had tissues in my carry-on to help until we landed in Dallas. It didn't take off the entire nail, but a good portion of it. And I had just gotten a pedicure too. :rotfl:

But silly (stupid?) me, I still wear sandals. I can't help it. I love them. :confused3

:rotfl: I just want to put in my own 2 cents here - I am that girly girl with a pedicure most of the time! Granted, I am also a girl who spends her entire visit to WDW either in flip flops or barefoot (only in the hotel, don't freak!). To me, with my wide, flat and strangley always hot feet (oh and my heel spurs), flip flops are most comfortable! After each day in the parks my feet are pretty dirty and gross, which is why I don't bother with a pedicure before the trip! I give one to myself to tide me over (and am involved in some pretty serious feet washing while on vacation :)) and then get a REALLY good one when I get home!

and me too, I had a lady in a scooter run over my foot at AK, still wear the flip flops! if I wore sneakers, I would be in pain!

I must agree, gross feet are disgusting. The only thing nastier is puke, but you can't help puke. You can help gross feet.

I live by the rules, and lord forbid my polish chip, as I will be the first person back to the room to repolish.

I'm with you. I've seen many a male and female wearing open-back shoes with hard, crusty, yellow feet. You don't have to PAY for a mani/pedi, I do them myself. A good foot file doesn't cost more than $8.00. But if you don't want to scrape down your feet and you still want to wear open shoes, please do us all a favor and keep your feet on the floor and not across your knee.:scared:

Hey Buzz Lightbeer. . . . we need more stories. I can't believe I am asking for this, but as many have said, this is like a train wreck. I just can't look away, and I know you have more.:lmao:

I'm tired of hearing about crusty feet.;)

You know, I know I have more, too... but I'm not posting a lot of them because a) I've deliberately blocked them from my mind as a means of coping, and b) I really don't want to give some of the "newbies" here a false sense that they're going to be sickened in the parks. It's like the bit about the feet: to be honest, I'm not that bothered by dirty feet unless they get up near my face (which, thank God, isn't often).

To be honest, I'm not that grossed out at the parks all that often. Which is not to say I don't occasionally see some things... but I don't see them far more frequently than I do.

This one was both gross and sad.

I was eating in the Electric Umbrella in EPCOT. It is a nice counter service place that sells burgers and such.

There was a family sitting next to us who were finished eating and didn't bother cleaning their table. They left their trays with some half eaten food on them. The table was close to ours, so I happend to notice this. Within seconds, another family sat down (it was a mom, dad and two kids). They started eating the left-overs of the other family.

They definitely did this before, because the transition was so smooth.

I tried not to look, but felt bad. They were eating so fast - I could tell they were hungry.

I didn't want to embarrass them, so I left a $20 bill on the my table and watched a little further away. Sure enough they took the bill. So hopefully they had a better meal the next day.

If they can afford disney? why can't they afford food? Hmm...maybe they spent everything to get to the parks...which is just poor money management.

You're awesome!! There should be more people like you in this world!!

P.S. My hubby's from S.I.;)

Why judge them? You have no idea what their situation might be. I think it's a wonderful gesture that the PP made. He didn't ask questions - he just saw a need and took care of it.

I kinda have to side with Bee here since she makes a good point. While I think this person had the best intentions I don't think the gesture was necessary.

I've known some frugal people in my life and I've known some poor people. I've also known some strange people. This situation has strange written all over it.

The frugal people still hit up the Disney parks but they still follow the frugal "techniques." Sharing the same cup, 4 people to a room, no churros, etc. I don't think even the most frugal would eat somebody's leftovers but then again it's a crazy world. As for the $20. You bet they'd take it. I would!

The poor people don't typically go to Disneyland. That's what the beach and Slip and Slides are for. I don't think they'd make the trip there and scavenge for food. They'd skip the trip and feed their family. Even the homeless know what it takes to survive and going to Disney World is not on that list. As for the $20. You bet they'd take it. I would!

That brings me to the crazy people. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that these people are likely oddballs. Their quick scarfing could be attributed to being hungry but I think it has to do with avoiding detection. Get in, do your crazy work, then get out of there fast before people can take a mental picture. People are weird. I know people with the means but they still don't flush the toilet unless it's number 2 and they never throw away food. Maybe these people just didn't want to see it wasted. As for the $20. You bet they'd take it. I would!

/Not flaming or trolling.
//I love everybody here.
///Please don't yell at me for having a contrary opinion.

I have the right to my own opinion on the subject. But you're right, I don't know their situation. If you didn't have the means to feed your family...I don't see anything wrong with what they did. But if you are at WDW (which costs a somewhat hefty chunk of change) I don't see why you'd eat someone's leftover food. Just a bit odd to me.

And please refrain from jumping all over me for "judging" people. It's not like I'm going up to them and getting in their face about it or something. Besides, weren't you judging people earlier in this thread and calling them things like "high maintainence?" :confused3

Yeah I definitely thought it was weird. And the thought did cross my mind. Why the heck are they at Disney World and looking for scrapes of food. As someone else posted, they could have just been oddballs who were very frugal. For all I know, they could have been millionaires.

Then I started to think, hey maybe someone bought them tickets as a gift or they are down on their luck and didn't have enough for lunch. I didn't miss the $20, so it was all good.

This is off topic, but every Christmas they set up a small gift tree at my church where you have to pick a gift for a needy family and buy it for them. These are actual gifts the families request. One year the gift I had to buy was a DVD the movie "Ice Age". I thought it was weird how a needy family had a DVD player and I didn't. LOL.

I still bought it though.

well, how long ago was that? in recent years...dvd players have been super cheap....$15 or so. or maybe someone gave them that as a gift? haha..who knows. but i do love those gift trees. we have them all over out here every year (store, mall, etc.)

If you go back and re-read the thread, you'll note that the people who I refered to as "high maintenance" did, in fact, refer to themselves in that way first.

Then I started to think, hey maybe someone bought them tickets as a gift or they are down on their luck and didn't have enough for lunch. I didn't miss the $20, so it was all good.

That's a great way to look at it. I prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt, too. In the end of the day, it's just money right?

For all the cynical folks, here is another way to look at it. Let's say the family were just ecentric oddballs that were too cheap or very bad money managers. Then I guess you can say they got over on me for $20. Oh well.

But what if they were really hungry and had no money, then it's a win-win all the way around. Hey some people spend $20 a day on lottery tickets, so I look at it as money well spent.

Me neither. . . I guess I'm just in my own little world when I'm at the World:goodvibes But then again I've never seen socks fall out of a guys shorts or a guy dipping a hot dog in his salt filled belly button, because I think I would notice those things.:lmao: (BTW, how did you get close enough to determine he had salt in his belly button?)

I have seen the occasional non-flushed toilet and paper towels on the floor, etc. . . in the bathrooms, but to me Disney bathrooms are better than most, and more often than not, there is a CM in there, working her little heart out to clean up after everyone else.

Although I did not see this, one of my managers described this incident so beautifully to me.

I worked at Splash Mountain as a CP. I was out at either End of Line (fancy term for the greeter) or FastPass Return. Anyway, I see 2 managers go rushing up towards Thunder, one of them laughing hysterically and the other trying to get him to stop laughing.

One manager comes back, the one who was laughing, and tells me this lovely little story:

A man was over at the designated smoking area by Thunder with his hands down you-know-where and he was, well, let's just say he didn't need the clubs at PI to accomplish what he was trying to accomplish. I was MORTIFIED. A grown man doing THAT with children around?!

He was escorted out of the park. Rightfully so.

The SCARIEST moment while working at Splash was when I was in the station. 2 people got into a log and started screaming. I mean screaming at the top of their lungs! Another CM who was closer to them asked what was wrong. Turns out it was a giant cockroach. :scared1: I was counting my lucky stars I didn't have to see them as I have a bug and spider phobia that's second to none. A few hours later, I was back in station at dispatch and I took a tiny step back. And FELT a crunch. I knew before I even had to look. I stepped on a roach!:scared1: It took all my will power to not start screaming and freaking out. I took my foot and flung it as far back as I could (while nobody in logs were going past, mind you).

To this day, I can still feel that crunch. EW EW EW EW.
