I am in MN and I believe this also. Governor is holding his daily press conference now though, and has not said anything.IL and MN will both be going into shutdown mode, and I believe WI will follow by the end of the weekend, but it wouldn't surprise me if it isn't still announced by the end of the day today.
I see that, surprising.I am in MN and I believe this also. Governor is holding his daily press conference now though, and has not said anything.
Maybe he wants people to finish their workday before they all freakout?I see that, surprising.
MN governor just said he isn't ready to do that, but then he reminded us he said Friday he wasn't closing schools, but Sunday at noon, he did.Massachusetts has NO plans to do this per the Governors daily press conference. Very disheartening. How many need to get sick and die before they do something.
This. I live in a state with 2 main populations centers and a lot of flyover in between. Gov can call in nat’l guard all he wants, but he will have to focus on specific areas. In fact, we live 20 miles outside of a major city. We have municipal police department, but a large number of townships in our county and around the state depend on state troopers for local police enforcement. Those townships have been fighting per person cost increases to cover their portion of state trooper expenses and still refuse the expense of local pd.I think there's a major enforceablility concern in rural areas, so statewide lockdowns are going to be different and slower coming than city-level lockdowns. The ratio of law enforcement to the number of businesses being shuttered and the way those businesses are spread out will make it hard to enforce on the supply side, and the fact that grocery shopping, outdoor activity, and other exceptions to the lockdown generally require rural residents drive to those places makes locking down the demand side equally difficult. And rural residents tend to be generally more individualistic, IME, and more skeptical of the containment measures specifically.
My town, for example, has two separate business districts, a wealth of trails just outside of town that are perfect for exercising/getting out of the house while still observing distance precautions, and a half-dozen essential businesses. We also have 3 police cars/7 officers. There's usually only one car on duty at any given time and one officer at the station during business hours. How does enforcement work, under those circumstances? The playgrounds are closed, officially, but we don't even have the resources to enforce that so in reality the closure is strictly voluntary. And the math is even worse in truly rural areas - the townships around me all rely on the county sheriff for police protection, and response times run 20-30 minutes when there's a call. There simply aren't resources to ensure people stay home.
I have been gone 5 years and usually just shopped at flagship Stew’s. But $5!!! Chicken breast would be $2/lb on sale all the time! We would crazy stock up.He's on the subway back so I'll let you know in a little bit. I was disappointed in Stew Leonard's sale circular this week so will wait to return to the Yonkers store until there's more than chicken breasts on sale for 5.00/lb .Pfft-that's not a sale, LOL.
Going to work this morning, the roads were packed just as much as they have been the last 2 years (sudden surge of traffic compared to 3 and 4 years ago when I would be the only car at 6 am.) Small town, not the big city so my version of roads packed isn't the same as most of the forums' members' roads. In Pennsylvania yesterday, the governor ordered all non essential businesses to close. But there is no enforcement. Certain things are still open: grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations, big box stores, banks, some other stuff. My office is having us work from home for the next two weeks.
We had to go to CVS for some meds and to a grocery store, and boy, you could certainly tell people were staying home. I mean, there were still people out, but maybe 30% of normal?

Right?! That's just crazy. A whole ribeye cut was on sale for the same price in Feb. as what the chicken breasts are now . And and noooo lobster sale this winter. Sniffles.This. Just found out that our three apartment building has a washer/dryer that we can use! I'm so relieved we won't have to use the laundromat anymore. Our landlord's father lives downstairs and it's mostly for his use but they are happy to let us use it now as well.

Gas stations and convenience stores are all running. Fast food is drive-thru only. Tobacco shop had a drive-thru set up yesterday. No idea if the mall is closed or not. Ex works at Lowes and she said it's busier than she's ever seen it in 14 years I think.
I unfortunately have no clothes. Bought all my clothing 4 years ago starting over and now they are all splitting in the crotch. Goal was to pay the car off and have some cash this week for clothes. Guess I'm just doing the shutdown naked (I am assuming we will be shut down at work by next week, if not the government, then from GM shutting down.) Kinda wishing I didn't pay off the car and most of the furnace 2 weeks ago. I've had debt since 1992 and I have $164 left to pay, and this happens. Can never get ahead I guess, there's always something, lol.
Here is a domino consequence....Mexico border closing....the very small community of mexico that should be an extension of the US, algondoes offers medical services of all kinds, folks travel from all over the three border states for medical care and make reservations in the Casino massive hotel where 90% of the reservations is for mexico visits , they close Monday.....because no one is visiting the casino as it is in the middle of nowhere.. So in three weeks, if ordinary appears again, a huge flood of folks returning to Mexico, long lines to exit in the heat, senior citizens fainting ( about 3 a visit when we are there), and folks with really bad dental problems will have to wait for months to see a mexico dentist because of the backlog.....because once you pay $200.00 for a crown....it is very painful to pay TWO Grand for the same service stateside.
I don't think Cuomo had plans to do this either. Then we started testing more and more and finding out just how many people in NY do have it.
