Shutdown or Lockdown in your area?

In Pennsylvania yesterday, the governor ordered all non essential businesses to close. But there is no enforcement. Certain things are still open: grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations, big box stores, banks, some other stuff. My office is having us work from home for the next two weeks.

We had to go to CVS for some meds and to a grocery store, and boy, you could certainly tell people were staying home. I mean, there were still people out, but maybe 30% of normal?
You should have seen the line in the state store last night after Wolf said they would all close at 9 PM tonight! DH wanted some Scotch, we decided it wasn't worth it. I stopped back this morning and it was much better.

The store at 7:30 this morning when there are normally 5 people was like it is at 5 / after work.

I promise you the majority of people are not going to keep their kids home no matter if they're working or not. I've been doing this over 2 decades - in my experience, most people don't want their kids around all day, even if they have that chance.

With the shelter-in-place order in our area, I really doubt that people are going to be allowed to drop their kids at their regular daycare centers. They're only open for people with essential jobs. The providers will not accept everyone right now.

So are people who can’t work remotely losing their jobs or are they still getting paid? I’m thinking factory workers. Are factories shutting down?
Yes, factories are shutting down. Most people who can't work remotely are losing their jobs, but some employers are continuing to pay for now.

Unemployment insurance is available, as well as paid family leave and short term disability. California EDD is doing their best to help, but it's going to be very painful for a lot of people.

Florida has ordered bars and nightclubs closed beginning tomorrow. I also heard that Orlando has banned the sale of in-establishment alcoholic drinks until the end of the month. My city hasn't officially closed anything yet, but it's coming. Individual businesses are doing what they can - takeout/curbside food pickup, etc. and not waiting on an order to do so. They haven't even closed the beaches... yet.
My company is slowly getting almost everyone to work from home, with the last of us beginning probably Thursday. Luckily DH and I can both wfh so we don't have to worry about that.. but it's scary. For myself, I'm not concerned about the virus itself, I'm worried about the fallout from it.

I am in Atlanta. No lockdown here yet, but I’m supposed to move to an apartment in two weeks and I’m really worried that might not be able to happen! Would a move be impacted do you think?
In the meantime, I’m now working from home alongside my newly Ex-Husband (finalized last week.) I don’t think I’ve ever been this stressed out.

Where I'm at, all schools closed at least 2-3 weeks, bars and restaurants closed with delivery, carry out, or drive through only. Daycares are set to close at the end of business on Friday.

At my job we have locked the doors to walk in customers.

I think if part of the country is shut down completely we should all shut down, I think it would be more effective.

Well I don't know where you're from, but that is not the case her.We have kids still coming in whose parents are not working. I wish my company would only allow those actually working.

Get your TP while you can:

"New York City considers a shelter-in-place order as public life is curtailed.

Mayor Bill de Blasio of New York City said that residents should prepare for the possibility of a “shelter in place” order to be announced in the next 48 hours, as the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in New York City neared 1,000.

Mr. de Blasio said that a decision on such an order, which would require coordination between the city and New York State, had not been made. But he said he believed that kind of recommendation, which is in place in San Francisco, would be “the right guidance.”

New York City has already come to a halt, but a “shelter in place” recommendation would be a major escalation in restrictions on public life. The mayor did not elaborate on what a “shelter in place” order would look like in practice.

Mr. de Blasio said that the city was rushing to add more hospital beds.
By canceling elective surgeries and dismissing patients from hospitals more quickly, the city could free up about 7,000 patient beds, the mayor said. Another 1,200 to 1,300 beds could be added by taking over unused space in hospitals and converting a newly built nursing home in Brooklyn that was not yet occupied."

Delaware joined many other states by restricting restaurants to take-out/drive thru/delivery only. Casinos closing 8 pm tonight until further notice. Bars, gyms, theaters, other recreation and entertainment facilities had already been ordered closed.

Haven't heard about shopping malls and other non-essential retail yet, but I expect closings within the next few days.

No stay-at-home-unless-necessary orders or curfews. Yet.

My county announced a shelter in place advisement effective immediately. It will become an order as soon as the first case is diagnosed, most likely by the end of the week.

At work (County Courthouse) we’ve shut down all the public counters. All nonessential business is being postponed at least 3 weeks.

These are unique and unprecedented times we are living in.

If not already, I bet it will be soon. I'm actually surprised it hasn't happened yet. Supposedly there are 9 healthcare workers in the Emory and Grady hospital network that have tested positive. This represents over a hundred patients that could've been seen but now other medical professionals will need to take the extra patient load.

Doctors and nurses getting sick themselves is what could break the camel's back.

I'm watching some TV right now, and there's a commercial for one of our (relatively) local tribal casinos. However, I checked their website and it's closed.

I guess there were a lot of ad buys that were done a while ago. It does kind of make me wonder about who's paying for all these commercials. A lot of them are advertising for products/services that aren't exactly going to be in demand for the next few weeks.

Most (not all) of the casino's in California have done the socially responsible thing and closed. River Rock in Geyserville seems to be one of the larger ones still open.

I've been there. I thought that they lost a ton of business to Graton since it's closer to Marin and San Francisco. Strangely enough there's another place called River Rock Casino in Richmond, BC. They're closed.

I am sure they have. It was the "go to" casino in the North North Bay but it is a DUMP compared to Graton.

I really hope that more and more places close soon. It is crazy that so many places are ignoring the advisements and staying open.

Restaurants shutdown tonight. I think, we're a couple of weeks from a shutdown. However, I'm self isolating and working from home.

Looks like we will be ordered to shelter in place (aka stay home) starting on Thursday. I’m interested to see how work handles it. Some of our services are definitely considered essential but others not. My position (payroll) is semi-essential. Technically I could do it from home, if necessary.

Yep. Looks like a big tent. I think this photo was from the time before they built the garage and added an additional hut.

Atlanta Suburb here. So many stores have chosen to close themselves that unless you need something specific it's not worth going out which is fine. The people who are going out are driving like maniacs - ignoring road rules, stop signs ect. but that is nothing new here.

I was just thinking about my vets office. I have a cat due for her shots and another who is diabetic and needs needles and insulin regularly. I think I will call there tomorrow.

We are waiting to find out when we can get into my daughters dorm room to clear out all of her items. I will have to help with that since I've got the big vehicle that can handle the big stuff.

I'm trying to keep us at home as much as possible. Luckily we have alot to do in our house. As far as work goes, we own our own business and it's just 2 of us and only have contact with 2 others on a daily basis (and usually those 2 aren't actually going into the building space or getting close to us) so it should be fine. Our main thing is if orders drop or the Post Office or UPS close we will have a problem.
