Has anyone been watching? I always liked the concept, but never saw the movies since I heard theat they were pretty bad. The series though is supposed to be more on-model, and I have been enjoying it so far. I won't get into any specifics yet, but it's pretty good with some very interesting characters and takes on the Greek myths. I'm on board.

Watched the first two episodes and I like it so far. The kids are younger than the were in the movies, which is closer to the books I think. It is sort of Hogwarts for Demi Gods.

I've seen the previews of Percy Jackson and The Olympians and I think Disney+ expects this to be a hit because if you like fantasy books like the Harry Potter series Percy Jackson And The Olympians will be a most-watched show. I might give this show a try after watching Star Trek Strange New Worlds and Ahsoka to see if I like it

Thanks for starting this thread, I forgot this series was coming out. DD read the books, and we watched a couple of the movies. Will check out the series.

I read the books for the first time at the start of the pandemic and really liked them, but had also heard terrible things about the movies so avoided. I've watched the first episode and really liked it. I was hoping to watch the second with my oldest daughter during break, but ...

We've watched the first two as a family and are all really enjoying it. The two teens have read the books, the parents have not so it's fresh for us. Kids say it is so much better than the movies. I like that they are actual kids and not older teens/young adults. It could be a real hit for Disney+.

Yep been liking it as well.

Overall I'm still enjoying it, but it does feel a little lacking as well.
Not sure if it's budget or what but I am not liking how all the big confrontations are over so quickly. Would have been cool to see Medusa kind of chasing them through the statue garden, and get more with the chimera (but thought overall it was ok).
The bigger thing to me is them "spoiling" twists which is killing build up and reveals and feel detracting from the characters. Was fun seeing them realize they are at Medusa's lair and figuring out what was going on at the casino. Here they just talk about what they are walking into before even going in.

My daughter has read the series multiple times and was very excited to watch this series. I have not read the books myself, so I have nothing to compare it to. She did point out quite a lot of stuff that differs from the books (as well as how such-and-such was done in the movies). I believe the author was involved with the production of this series so my assumption is he was good with the tweaks. I found it watchable and liked it but it's probably not something I would personally return to re-watch again.

I finally was able to get all caught up last night and ended up watching the making of the series after. I would definitely recommend it if she is a fan! The author was very involved! There was so much thought and intentionality put into the series. I, like you, have never read the books, but still found myself enjoying the series. Did I love it, not really. But I was really impressed by the professionalism and commitment of the 3 main actors to their roles.

It has also been officially renewed for Season 2, though I think that was a given considering the reception has been pretty positive.

I read the books and a few other series from the author but I don't have D+ at the moment so not watching it right now. I would try it out if/when I get D+ again but I thought the movies were pretty well done.

I understand the controversy over the casting of this show as I do tend to prefer my characters to be similar to what is described in the books but the movie had Annabell with black hair instead of blond so I know that things can change around. I will reserve judgement until I actually watch the show.

read the books first or watch the shows?
I'd watch the show first. You will probably get more enjoyment out of it not having the more in depth book to compare to. Then can read the book to see what is different and get more information and detail on certain characters and scenes.

no movie or short series can ever do a book justice, but it sure did a very good job. My family is really looking forward to more seasons. I just hope it can go the distance and make it through all 5 books. That seems to be asking a lot from a Disney+ series these days.
