Disney's WILDERNESS LODGE Information & Questions

Yes- that was still the case the past few days.

I will say that we had some issues with transportation. Starting 7/1 and continuing through 7/5. There was a boat out of commission to MK, so there was a 45 minute wait one afternoon for a boat. Buses to AK and DHS both had 45 minute to 1 hour waits a few mornings. One morning, AK took us 45 minutes, and then went to Contemporary before going to AK (so it took us over an hour to get there from when we got to the stop). Typically in the AM you get a dedicated bus with no additional stops. Same morning DHS bus was called 4 times and people were still at the stop waiting over an hour at the point we got on the AK bus.

We did stop at the concierge and complain when we got back- it impacted our NRJ FP and our Tusker House reservation as a result. It wound up working out, but it was nerve-wracking...
We had problems on the Friday of our trip 6/9. It was AM EMH at MK and we waited the longest we had waited the whole week for a bus. We probably waited 25 min but the people there before us said they had already waited 15....so 40 over all and in that time there were several to other parks. It totally messed up our EMH plans. I thought about complaining but never did.

So we are very excited that we just made an offer yesterday on a DVC resale contract at BRV yesterday and it was accepted. This will be our first DVC contract and if all goes well, we will be back at BRV in June 2018. Hoping for 6/3-6/7 but we won't be able to be booked until after closing.

You won't get the discount if the server at the bar takes your order.

This is good to know!

I've decided to add a night to the October trip with my mom, and after two trips in a row NOT at WL, I need to go back to my home sweet home, and plan to book our arrival night at the Lodge and have GP for dinner.

Also excited for the salmon BLT! I love it at SciFi, so I'm sure it's even better here.

I just saw on the all ears menu for RF ( which says it was just updated ) that they have a tuna sandwich and a smoked turkey sandwich... can anyone confirm this? This would be awesome because then we could actually stay (food allergies here)...

I can confirm a smoked turkey and a chipotle turkey- DH had the chipotle (chosen over the smoked) on Weds while waiting for the ME bus. He does not recall seeing a tuna sandwich, but doesn't mean it wasn't there.

Yay! That's great... I can't eat coldcuts but I can eat carved (which I assume is what that is? ) I hope

Hi DISers :wave2: I just posted the below question in a new thread, but thought I would ask here as well given that you all are the WL experts!

My mom would like to travel to WDW with our family for her 60th next fall (October 2018). Our family consists of 7 adults - dad, mom, two sisters and their husbands (in their early 30s), me (in my late 20s) and two baby boys (23 months and 18 months as of next fall).

My sisters and I were thinking that it might make sense to rent a 2BR villa instead of getting separate hotel rooms - this way, my sisters would be able to take advantage of the kitchen and larger living area (and washer/dryer) since they will each have a young baby in tow. I would likely sleep on the pull-out couch in the 2BR villa (no worries - we're close :crowded:) and my parents would get a separate hotel room/studio.

We know that we want to stay at a deluxe resort and thought that the MK area would make the most sense given that it offers the most ride options for the babies. We have stayed at both the GF and WL previously, but never in the villas. We were initially interested in the Poly, but it looks like there are no 2BR options and the bungalows are just too $. We're not that crazy about the CR theme, so that leaves the WL and GF as contenders. We would likely book through a DVC rental agency 11 months out since I know both of these villa options are competitive. Which resort would you choose?

Below are a few specific questions I've been considering:
  • Is there any difference in size between the WL and GF 2BR villas (given that there would be five adults and two babies sharing it)?
  • Does one 2BR villa offer more space and/or sleep options for two babies vs. the other? (e.g. spacious closets in the bedrooms that we could put cribs in)?
  • Is Copper Creek a better option than the Boulder Ridge villas? I know that the former is newer and closer to the main lobby, but not sure if we would be able to successfully book it for next year given how new it is. Are the Boulder Ridge villas being refurbished since the decor looks dated in comparison? Is the Copper Creek vs. Boulder Ridge 2BR villa layout preferable with two babies?
  • Can Disney provide railings for the mini bed that pulls out from under the TV at the GFV (not sure if either of the WLV options offer this as well) or would we need to request two cribs? Or do they only offer pack 'n plays in the villas?
  • Is the monorail much more convenient with a stroller than the WL boat? Can't recall if strollers need to be stowed when boarding the boat or if babies can just stay in them during the boat ride.
  • Does the WL vs. GF provide a better pool option for babies (e.g. zero entry, splash area)? I think the WL is in the process of updating the quiet pool area, right?
I know that there are a lot of questions above, but any insight is appreciated - especially regarding Copper Creek vs. the Boulder Ridge 2BR villa.

Thanks so much for your help!
Maria

Below are a few specific questions I've been considering:
  • Is there any difference in size between the WL and GF 2BR villas (given that there would be five adults and two babies sharing it)?The square footage of the GF is greater than that at VWL (I will never call it Boulder Ridge, personally ;)). Something like 150 sq ft difference, I believe.

Are the Boulder Ridge villas being refurbished since the decor looks dated in comparison? Is the Copper Creek vs. Boulder Ridge 2BR villa layout preferable with two babies? No. I believe the CC villas are a touch smaller, and the layout isn't optimal since they had to work with the existing "bones" of the building. The VWL villas were refurbished about three years ago, so they do not look as new.
Can't recall if strollers need to be stowed when boarding the boat or if babies can just stay in them during the boat ride.Strollers needn't be stowed on the monorail; they must be on the boats.
  • Does the WL vs. GF provide a better pool option for babies (e.g. zero entry, splash area)? I think the WL is in the process of updating the quiet pool area, right?New pool at WL is open and has zero entry. Unsure of GF pool, but I suspect at least one of them is zero entry.
I know that there are a lot of questions above, but any insight is appreciated - especially regarding Copper Creek vs. the Boulder Ridge 2BR villa.GF might be a better fit given the monorail access to MK, but VWL (aka BRV) and Copper Creek will be slightly less cost-wise. If you had to choose between CC and VWL, I'd do the latter. Layout is better (second BR is separated by living area in a dedicated 2BR which is what I'd request).

Thanks so much for your help!

Just a semi-correction...strollers do not have to be folded up on the bigger boats. And for us, it seemed like it was always the bigger ones at the end of the night when the boys were tired out and/or sleeping, thank goodness. We did have small ones part of the time though.

You are correct! Just the smaller boats. Of our boat travels, it was about 50-50 big vs. little. Good point, though! :thumbsup2

Thank you so much, sleepydog25 and ArielSLR! I think we're leaning toward VGF given the ease of the monorail and extra villa space, but VWL is definitely still in the mix. Appreciate the insight!

Just got back from the World yesterday, and here are my thoughts on the status of the WL, including CCVC and VWL.
- The new landscaping and exterior thematic elements are excellent. They did a lot more with the landscaping than I gave them credit several months ago. It looks as though most of the plants, shrubs, and flowers have been there for years. The GP building melds right into the sense of being in a deluxe wilderness-ish area, while the new pool is very nice to look at. The new cabins are lovely, as well, and the pathway to them all is dotted with animal "tracks" like the older sidewalks have always had. It's a beautiful resort around which to walk.
- The nature trail is kinda sorta still there. There are 26 cabins, 8001-8012 on the north side and 8013-8026 on the south. The farthest cabins from the Lodge are 8001 and 8026. The latter sits nearly a quarter mile from the main lobby. I walked it. Once past 8026, the sandy nature trail still exists, though I'm still not certain that it hooks up to the main paved trail. I did see a Y about 100 yards down but didn't take it. I'll assume it does hit the paved path until told differently.
- The cabins are gorgeous. Disney employees have been staying in the new villas and cabins a night or two at a time in order to check out that everything works. As we strolled down the path by one of the cabins, a Disney employee and her family offered to let us take a look (they were just arriving). While they're not as spacious up close as they appear to be in photos, they're very nice. Kitchen is lovely, but a tad smaller than pictures make it seem. The bathrooms are even lovelier than the pictures, however. They sleep 8: two in the master, three in the 2nd BR (there's a trundle bed), and three in the living area (pull out couch and chair). The porch is screened in and has a picnic table. i think it might have been better to make it smaller and use that to increase living area size, but that's just me. Each unit has a hot tub in the screened in area, as well, and for those with little tykes, there is a security fence around said hot tub. Each cabin has a small post at the pathway with the number easily seen and lights shining on the number so easy to find in the dark. The path itself has light posts along the entire length. Parking for cabins on south side is past the old VWL building and there are a couple of bridges or connecting pathways leading to the parking lot. You're likely better off to park in that lot than the main lot even if the cabin is close to the main Lodge. The north side cabin parking lot sits north of the north wing.
- The cabins on the north side may not be as good a choice as the south side ones. Why? They are right along the boat route to MK, so boats will be coming and going at all hours with their attending horns. We saw fishing expeditions sitting right along the bank of those cabins every single day we took the boat to MK or CR. And don't forget that the sea racers go by there a lot, too, especially since they've reopened Teton Bike and Boat rentals. So, if you wind up in one of those cabins, expect to see and hear a lot of people and horns.
- There are grills. One grill sits near Geyser Point and in front of a couple of cabins, somewhere around 8014 and 8015. No picnic tables but a small covered bench to rest while cooking, I guess. The other grilling area is on the north side near cabin 8006, and it has two grills and two covered picnic tables with an overhead fan.
- Geyser Point still delivers excellent food. Have now eaten there three times--twice for lunch and once for breakfast. Food is way better than RF. No discounts if you order through the bar (though they thought there would be at some point in the future), but they do take at least the AP currently at the quick service window. GP also has great views of the lake even if it is hot during the summer.
- Roaring Fork does not still deliver excellent food. I didn't finish my kid's size portion of Mickey waffles they were so tasteless. Lots of prepackaged foods. Ordering system is clunky. Looks prettier, especially outdoor seating area, but we were extremely disappointed by the food.
- Territory Lounge coffee shop is closed. Sigh.
- Cubs' Den is permanently closed. Not a big deal for us now but would have been 10 years ago.
- Artist Point was superb. That makes three times in a row for a great experience for us.
- Valet parking area has changed. It's now straight ahead as you exit from the drive through entrance to the main lobby. That means the second section of the parking lot which used to be valet is now open parking.
- There is now Copper Creek merchandise in the Mercantile. It's not a lot, but it does exist.
- South bank elevators are now open. That will be a moot point come next Monday when the CC opens up, but if you're headed there in the next few days, you can use those elevators now.
- WL feels more like a deluxe now. . .but I still miss the more wilderness aspect of the old resort. This feels like "produced" wilderness vice actual wilderness. And that makes me sad. I miss my beach. I miss the nature trail starting right near the Teton Rental (which is open, as well). I miss seeing so many trees that helped make the Lodge seem quiet and serene. It was far busier and noisier than in the past since now people have a reason to walk in that area thanks to GP and the new, larger pool. Still, it wasn't exactly loud. . .just moreso than before and I hate that. Of course, if you walk down to the farthest cabins, you're going to feel as though you're remote. :rotfl:

Well, that's it for now. If anyone has questions, feel free to ask or shoot me a PM.

Talking about the king rooms... The ones in standard that look toward the castle does anybody know the room numbers?

I don't. But if you would like to request one of those, your chances will be much better if you request "king room with view of MK please" instead of requesting room numbers.
Thank You, I will,:flower3: I just wanted to go to touring plans and look at the view...
