"Danger is my cup of tea." Sep 1-5 TR! Update: Day two complete, with MSEP pictures!

Glad to hear she made it safely. Bummer about the meeting. The sugar sound like something I would do.

I hate traffic around the airport!!!! We go to Sand Key Park Beach. Almost always get stuck around the airport.

Subbing! Did you ever find out anything else about the first bag of sugar? Turbinado is too good to let it go to waste! ;)

Good to know that you go through ID check first at TIA and then on the monorail and then security. I'm flying out of there for the first time in October, so that was very informative. :thumbsup2

"I'm taking this now." :lmao: Seriously, I'm with you, what did the lady think that you were going to do with it if you kept it? Sell it or something?

That's a little disconcerting that there is not a little more verification on getting the escort passes. I always thought that the name of the person had to be double checked against a list and everything.

Hi guys, sorry I've been quiet the last few days. I'm trying to catch up with homework, plus my grandmother died yesterday, so I've been a little bit out of sorts. New installment coming soon though!

YAY!!! So far she has made it there safely! I can't wait to read more...:surfweb:

I'm joining the fun. You are an entertaining writer :thumbsup2

Thanks guys!

I know, right? It's awful. It's like 3 highways all merging together about a mile before the airport exit, made worse by the fact that people tend to drive like jerks.

I think I just left it there! In fact, there's a chance the one I picked up was the same bag from the day before.

Yeah, keep your ID out for awhile. You'll need it. And maybe she did check my name, but she sure didn't act like she did. She didn't even verify my sister's name or anything.

A week before we left I got a snazzy new phone with a decent-ish camera. I have a better, actual camera, but carrying this baby around was so much more convenient that I ended up only using that. So on the way to Disney, I gave it to Rebekah and asked her to take photos to chronicle our journey.

High school on I-4!

Up next: What happens when we FINALLY make it to Disney?

Your snazzy new phone takes some good pictures!

Can't to hear what happens when you guys arrive at Disney.

I think I just left it there! In fact, there's a chance the one I picked up was the same bag from the day before.

I've done that before! I always feel so silly and rarely go back and get it again. Turbinado is my boyfriend's favorite kind of sugar (he grew up in Florida), but it's way too expensive to buy it regularly out here. (We obviously have a very exciting life, debating what kind of sugar to get! :rotfl:)

Can't wait to hear what happens in Disney!

I'm a little late catching up so I will add my thoughts and prayers for you and your family during your recent loss.

So, our long journey is over, but we still need to eat!

FYI, my sister also took pictures with her camera, but it may be a bit before we have any of them. For now, you’ll have to settle for my pictures!

First stop was Downtown Disney, to pick up my Tables in Wonderland card. I’m really happy that parking is free there, but it’s also hella confusing. I went in the right entrance, but ended up parking far away from where I needed to be, AND it was raining. Not that that’s Disney’s fault. :rolleyes1

Anyway, Becky stayed in the car while I went. The whole transaction went very smoothly. I can’t believe I just found out about TiW in July! I could have saved so much money. It seems to be a pretty well-kept secret.

But now I have one, yay! And since I bought it September 1st, it’s good until October 31st of 2012. Good thing I didn’t buy it three weeks before when I was in the area. Got some great extra time!

After DTD, the original plan was to check in at the hotel, bring most of our bags in, and then go have dinner at Sanaa. Our ADR was for 7:45, and it was just after 7 by the time I got out of DTD because of how late I had to work and the traffic we ran into. Rebekah was starving and so was I, so we decided to head over to Kidani Village first instead of French Quarter. I hoped that they’d be able to take us early.

In fact, the hostess said that they were actually running late. Boo! So Rebekah and I went outside to watch the animals while there was still some light left. I hoped that would help distract her from her hunger.

After awhile we realized the animals weren’t going to get very close, so we went back inside to wait.

I’m going to backtrack a bit and say that maybe this is just me, but I suck at parking at Disney. Apparently, if they’re not directing me to a spot (which I’m used to since I mostly only go to the parks), I have no idea where to go. Like at DTD, it took me forever to figure out where to park at Kidani Village, even though I had a card with directions! And I still parked pretty far from where we were supposed to be because the Timon parking area is so vast. It’s not a huge deal, but I think parking at the resorts and DTD are quite confusing. Ah well. Could be worse. :confused3

Back to the show!

Here's a crappy picture I took of the interior of the restaurant. Believe me, it's prettier than it looks.

Once we were seated, Becky, who would choose an “interesting” drink over a plain old glass of water any day, picks up the drink menu and notices that they’re all alcoholic. But I point out a little secret: most of them can be made non-alcoholic, and for much cheaper! So she orders the ginger lemonade, and since I’m boring I order the regular Minute Maid lite pomegranate lemonade.

I should have paid more attention to the “lite” part. You could taste the aspartame. Yuck! Aside from a purple-ish tint, it was very boring so I didn’t take a picture of it. I did, however, take a picture of Rebekah’s drink.

Rebekah did too and then texted it to her friend, who promptly assumed that it was alcoholic. She would, since she’s been known to purchase cocktails with fake ID’s. In front of my sister.

Rebekah LOVED the ginger lemonade. I did too when I had a sip of it. So good!

We ordered the bread service to start with. We had it with naan, papadum, and paneer paratha, which was bread stuffed we cheese. For our accompaniments we chose mango chutney, mint chutney, and tamarind chutney.

It was SOOOO yummy. We were really hungry so we devoured it. I particularly loved the tamarind chutney. The paneer paratha was something different and very delicious.

Let me take a minute here to explain that Rebekah and I grew up on Indian food. My mother ate at this one Indian place in Albany since she was in college. When she was pregnant with me, and I was full term, she decided she would try to induce labor by going there and eating a bunch of Indian food. It didn’t work, but now I crave the stuff constantly. Rebekah loves it too, which is why I chose Sanaa. It was the only restaurant I could find on property that actually served Indian food. I knew we could go off property for cheaper food, but when I’m on a Disney vacation, I don’t leave Disney, plus I knew the atmosphere would be cooler than any US-192 Indian place. If I’m wrong though, please tell me!

For her entrée, Rebekah ordered the vegetarian sampler, because she really wanted some palaak paneer (cheese and spinach). That one comes with two dishes, plus a choice of rice. She chose the vegetable sambar and the five grain pilaf.

I tried the paneer and spinach dish. The spinach isn’t as creamy as I’m used to. It seems they use fresher spinach, which I guess is a good thing, but go figure, it didn’t taste as good to me. It tasted…healthier. :crazy2:

I had the meat sampler, which was also two dishes, plus rice. I chose the spicy Durban shrimp, coconut-curry lamb, and basmati rice.

312637_10150781463965368_598185367_20622414_5972133_n.jpg

It might not look like a lot of food (at least it didn’t to me), but I’ve long learned not to judge a Disney entrée by its appearance. This filled me up GOOD. I couldn’t even finish it all. I will say I loved the shrimp. The lamb was good too, but it wasn’t what I was expecting. When you hear “coconut” you tend to think something sweeter (like a Thai curry), but this turned out to be more like a spicy lamb stew. Still good though, but if I go again I will try something else.

Rebekah ate all of her entrée. She’s very good at finishing her food if she likes it. Since her metabolism is so fast, she needs to eat as much as she can, so she’s developed a method of eating very slowly.

After our meal, I couldn’t help but take a picture of the hidden Mickey on our way out!

Up next, we arrive at Port Orleans!

TIW is great!! We have been using it for a few years. It use to be called Disney's Dining Experience (DDE). If you ever park in the far lot by the kennels at Epcot you will notice parking spots marked Kennel/DDE all the way at the front. We park there when we are just going to Epcot to eat.

The more you visit Disney the more the parking lots will make sense.

I have never eaten Indian food. I would have no idea what to order. Nor would I know a better place near Disney to send you.

I agree with you, fresh spinach has more of a grassy taste, the mushy spinach loses that grassy flavor. I don't think I'd want to try what your sister had, but yours sounds interesting. Her drink is very pretty. That pomegranate lemonade can be powerful. I find that if you let the ice melt it loses that kick it has, but then it tastes like Disney's nasty water taste. My husband always orders that lemonade.

What was in the non-alcoholic ginger lemonade?

I'm sorry to hear abot your Grandma.:grouphug:

Thanks for the update! I have never tried Saanaa, as I'm not a very adventurous eater, but your meal looked great. I loved the hidden Mickey! Can't wait till you get to POFQ!!!

Hello! I just jumped in and read your introduction, and wanted to join in...I'll catch up with anything else you've written hopefully this weekend.

But I am definitely interested to see your trip report because we have a lot of similarities. I'm from upstate NY too (Rensselaer, just across the river), my family still lives up there, and my husband and I are hoping to move back to the Saratoga area soon.

We also stayed in POFQ, just about the same time you did! I've just started my Trip Report as well, so I'll be interested to compare what you have to say with my thoughts as well :)

I'll check back in later!

I love TiW! It's such a great way to save money. Even though many times I do the dining plan when I'm there, it helps to save on any other expenses that might be incurred during a meal too. I'm glad that you also got more time. I had mine extended too!

I've eaten at Sanaa once and it was very good. I definitely need to go back in the near future.
