I'm hoping for the best, but I think crowds will be insane during that first weekend and the following one.
A lot of school districts in my area (north Jersey) are closed 10/3 and 10/4 for Rosh Hashana. The 45th Anniversary of the opening of the Magic Kingdom is 10/1. The last performances of MSEP in Florida probably forever are scheduled that week. You have the Food & Wine Festival, and 10/10 is Columbus Day.
Had I realized that all this would be going on when we booked it, I would probably have chosen another week for our trip. But c'est la vie! We'll get through it.
Maybe it's just me, but I'm getting annoyed with the lack of scheduling updates.
I don't expect them to post show times for Rivers of Light now, but if they could post only the times for Star Wars fireworks, it would help quite a bit.

Out of the 4 trips I have planned every two years going back to 2010 this has been by far the most jacked up by Disney. Easywdw has not even posted their daily recommandations and we are a month out. Now granted I know what Josh would write but it would still like to read it. He would have posted those months ago on previous trips.Maybe it's just me, but I'm getting annoyed with the lack of scheduling updates.

Changes won't be easy. We splurged for the DDP so we sure as heck arnt canceling our adrs!!!!We will be there October 1-7 and I am also frustrated with the lack of scheduling updates. I've done my best to figure out our schedule but with a family of 7 last minute changes due to updates just may not be possible.

Studios - My guess is a private event that's been in the books for a long time. And the best I can tell you will need two nights to see both.We are there 10/1 thru 10/8. MK is open to the general public only on 10/1, 10/3 and 10/5. I've already decided no MK on 10/1 because of 45th anniversary crowds. (I was there on the 40th--I ain't going back!)
The Studios closes at 6:00 on 10/6. Does anybody know why? Just curious.
Do we need 2 nights at DHS if we want to see both Star Wars fireworks and Fantasmic?
Do we need another night for Animal Kingdom? What time will they show the Tree Awakening? Will it be early enough to fit in a visit to DHS the same night?
So much is up in the air and I don't have much wiggle room because of MNSSHP and that early DHS closing. The funny, but fortunate thing is that this trip will the first time I'll have park hopping since MYW came into existence.
Worried about the crowds especially at MK the 1st week of October, even more so since WDW change MK hours from 8AM-11pm recently.
So will 1st week of October be crazy crowded due to:
1. Fall Break Crowds
2. MSEP leaving
3. Other?
Or will it be not so bad or offset due to:
1. General down trend in attendance
2. Zika Virus worries
3. Other?
Probably a smart moveI'll be there Oct 1 to 7th for a conference at the Contemporary. I am still hoping for an extension on hours at least at DHS. Last year there were some 8:30s and 9pm closes throughout the month. The earlier closings don't leave much time to use the after 3pm passes offered to conference attendees.
I normally go the week of Halloween and go to two sold-out MNSSHP parties including Halloween night. I am used to the higher crowds then and was looking forward to slightly lighter crowds earlier in the month, but with the announcement of MSEP leaving and the last day being Oct 9, I expect it to much busier. I had planned to go early on Sept 30 so I could be there for the 45th anniversary, but between what I think will be higher crowds now and the apparent lack of any special events or activities, I dropped those two days from my trip.

Yes! It is my first time at that conference and will be my first time at the Contemporary. I am excited for all of it!Just curious... Are you attending the An Event Apart conference? I'll be there and my wife is tagging along for a much-needed vacation (lucky her, she gets to spend the days at parks and pools while I sit in sessions...). If so, I'll see you there!
