We’ll always be cash guests. Never buying a timeshare. But, I see your point. But, how would that work with DVC? We’re not charged a resort fee, or, more accurately, it’s just included in our points.

If you go to Disney resorts regularly, you might want to run the numbers for DVC. The savings are substantial. We’ll always be cash guests. Never buying a timeshare. But, I see your point.
Thank you! It’s still very nice…and they just got the adult hot tubs working again.
I wish. I know it makes sense for us but I can’t sell my husband on it.If you go to Disney resorts regularly, you might want to run the numbers for DVC. The savings are substantial.

We’re staying at Aulani on a pretty substantial discount. We like the flexibility to book our trips around the sales. There will always be public discounts offered.
We always stay in a one bedroom, ocean view. The cash cost, even at a discount, is astronomical. I’ve done the math too, and for us the savings are substantial, even not including resale value. No they aren't. There will always be public discounts offered. I've done the math. It's never worked out to be any savings at all, just a massive expenditure and loss of opportunity costs on the upfront purchase.

I guess we have different ideas of what "astronomical" costs are. To me, the nightly cost of a 1br at a 30-40% discount is reasonable. To me, an $80,000+ investment is astronomical.
One does not HAVE to spend $80K on a DVC contract....AUL resale was pretty reasonable the last time I looked....I guess we have different ideas of what "astronomical" costs are. To me, the nightly cost of a 1br at a 30-40% discount is reasonable. To me, an $80,000+ investment is astronomical.
Aulani is currently offering a 25% discount. I put in dates for an off time of year, when we usually travel, for 18 days in September. Adding the room tax which everyone pays, that’s a total of $21,600 for a one bedroom ocean view. For me, that’s expensive. The point cost is 828 points, about $82,800. That would cover about 4 trips if you’re paying cash.I guess we have different ideas of what "astronomical" costs are. To me, the nightly cost of a 1br at a 30-40% discount is reasonable. Now, I’m not counting dues, but I’m not factoring in resale value either. I’m also not looking at opportunity cost because I don’t regard this as an investment. I really don’t want to go any deeper into this rabbit hole, but I hope you see some validity here.
If not, no big deal! It’s always fun to have a courteous debate on these boards!
18 days! We would never be able to travel that long.
No need to take the thread further off track. But we qualify for better discounts than 25%. I'll just leave it at that. DVC would never be a deal for us.
I'm more interested in the better discounts. I could use some better discounts!I would love to see your math.

If you want to count dues, then you have to count resale, and the fact that you could very well ultimately get back your purchase price…both of which massively shift the equation in favor of DVC.We get 35-40% discounts at Disney properties and don't travel every year. We live local to Disneyland so spend all our time there, and generally live in a place that we don't feel the need to get away from, so we don't travel too much. The dues kill it for me, math wise. Too many people "don't count" the dues, which is ridiculous. You have to count everything.
