Hmm, burn kerosene lamps again for light. I think those put out a bit-o-carbon. A 5W Led lamp puts out none.

It’s brainless! Quite literally!

Your, mine, and every other creature with a brain would cease having an operating brain. Or nerves.

That, in turn, would impact a bunch of plant life that needs animals for pollination.

While those saying that ending the use of electricity would not stop global warming are correct, that's not the question. The question is IF that were true, would you be willing to make the sacrifice. It could be anything important that you give up really - it's a thought exsercise not a literal proposal. Would you be willing to radically alter your life in order to ensure the lives of subsequent generations? I'm betting that the answer is no for most people, as that is in fact exactly what humans have always done and likely always will do. We see the future as someone else's problem.

Well, my answer would be....it's a false premise to give up all kinds of electricity or travel. We have to make changes and I'm willing to do more/pay more in order for those changes to begin...and accelerate. But I worry for my teenage niece and nephews....and what kind of world they're facing. I'll be 55 in a couple of months and so my husband and I won't be here. But...I'm definitely alarmed by the trends we're seeing and the world they'll need to navigate.

From my simple little corner of the world, these topics are frustratingly interesting. First, it's impossible to 'stop' global warming (aka climate change) because it occurs naturally - evidence shows it's been happening long before man. But on the other hand, it seems clear that human intervention has made it far worse over the past century. But even if you don't believe in the scientists who claim carbon emissions are worsening climate change - it's absolutely clear our air and water are getting dirtier and dirtier. If not for climate change, how about we just be decent and want a better, cleaner world for our descendants? There are now so many ways we can be cleaner and actually keep electricity! In fact, with cleaner ways to produce electricity, it's likely to be part of the solution - not the problem. Electricity isn't the problem - creating the electricity has been. We now have many ways to do better for future generations.

The loss of electricity would result in a loss of life on a scale I can’t even fathom. My kids and their kids would suffer greatly until we rediscovered and adapted to primitivism in a few generations. It’s a tough call, most of us here wouldn’t survive the first three weeks. I’m going to say no, purely for survival of my offspring.

No, how would one live? I don't mean no TV or cell phones or rollercoasters. But think of the medical field . Hand cranked dialysis machines? Would we will go back to the ice box with ice store in caves . Everyone dig a cold celler? Wash clothes on a scrub board again?

Three words: Carousel of Progress.

This is what I was trying to say. :-)
