Marathon Weekend 2023

My son did get the Dopey as he wanted, but he had 4 people online waiting to get him a spot. I just reserved OKW for him for the long weekend. I was surprised by the lack of studios for the weekend already.

The DVC runners I know all reserve as soon as the 11 month window opens--so well before race registration. It's not unusual for studios to be in short supply--even at OKW, since those are some of the cheapest.

Kudos and cold beers to all who got in today. Even more cold beers for those who didn't. One registration question: if a race in your "cart" is sold out when you go to pay, does it trash your whole cart, or can you still pay for whatever races you have that are still available?

That experience was so stressful and literally gave me a headache. The headache went away almost immediately after I got in and was able to put away my phone. Haha. But I’m in for the Marathon! I thought about the 10K, but was really only considering it because my dad was trying to sign up and I didn’t want to risk getting in the 10K if he didn’t. So I did the Marathon registration first and was still contemplating the 10K but my decision was made for me when it sold out right after.

I was able to register for the half! YAY! But the wait times kept changing for me... Over and hour then went down to 31 minutes, then jumped to 50. I joined the queue at 9:45 and registered right before 1:30. I think I just made it.
I got in at 1:07 pm after being in the queue since 9:41 am. I had to register myself and my friend and I have never typed so fast in my life once I actually got in! I am happy I got the Half as that is what we wanted but sad that it looks like those who logged on early were bumped to the end of the line. I would have thought for sure my 9:41 screen would have gotten me to the registration page first but it kept saying more than an hour wait and never got me there. My Firefox screen got me there in total 37 minutes.

Just pulling an extra cold beer out of the freezer

Was going to say even before @jmasgat responded, are you specifically referring to the near hospitality house studios? They've been gone since the 11 month mark. Speaking as an OKW owner, that's true of every race weekend.

Better to book and cancel if you don't get into the race, than get into the race and risk being shut out of your desired room size/category.

I got my first Dopey! super excited. Does anyone have recommendations for a Dopey training plan?
DopeyBadger is a great resource for sure and his advice will be very helpful. But, you don't need a dedicated Dopey training plan. Look through some marathon training plans. Several are available online. Assess if what they are asking of you is reasonable for your schedule and pace. No matter what plan you use, you are looking at a September timeline to start it. In the meantime, you can do another plan and work on speed, base building, or just biding time until it is time to start training. This group has a wide range of approaches and amounts of weekly running.
Edit: My plan is currently a 10k plan to work on some speed, followed by base building using a get across the finish line style HM plan (no speed work, just getting miles done), followed by my marathon plan.

I'll second this. A solid marathon training plan will get you through Dopey as long as you don't try to race all the distances. The one caution I'll throw out there is to make sure you pick a plan that has back to back runs in it so you get used to running on tired legs. Look at different plans and see which look compatible with your lifestyle and willingness to commit. The best plan is going to be the one that you can follow to completion.

The more I read the luckier I realize I got… I managed to get the full, drawn out excruciatingly with re-sign in, panic POT look up, panic forgetting my CC number and running around to find it in my room, and then did the 10k separately from another browser… I think the luck was in the browser though, with no solid pattern like others are maybe seeing.

Edge computer 1- 2 tabs 9:45 spinning, incognito after 10 loading dwarves and eventually spinning
Safari computer 2- two tabs 9:50 spinning
iPhone- dwarves all morning and then spinning before noon I think

the two safari tabs each said more than an hour, the two edge 5 min each, and the iPhone 19 minutes. so my first open and spinning was what got me in fastest, but the iPhone done later than the safari was faster than those. I used both edge tabs opened at 9:45 to get in 🤷‍♀️

ETA I was done by 12:48

I was surprised Castaway Cay sold out already. Does anyone know if they ever add spots? Was considering the cruise but probably will wait until next year if the CC 5K remains sold out.

Now that the morning fiasco has passed, did anyone else notice the new PoT cutoff times? Back up to 4.5 hours! Are they going to have multiple PoT corrals this year?

How are the sizing on the shirts. I am not sure if I should go with a mens or womens style.... I feel like the womens are usually shorter than I like....
I like the women's sizing. For me they are on par with other running shirts. I typically wear a small and the small has always worked well in the disney shirts. I am 5'5" and they hit right at my hip bones or just below.
