All the more reason to cancel it.Canceling the winter olympics would be a political loss for China -- since Japan was able to host the games, China will need to follow suit, or lose face.

Thank you @ronandannette for this thread. You'll have to start another one next year for the Winter Games.
I wonder if Japan kicked everyone out after the closing ceremonies, lol.
I think the time has come to stop having host "city" and just have a host country. This way they can have the games played at multiple cities around the country using EXISTING facilities. Forget an Olympic village...just put them up in hotels near their venues. NO building new facilities.
Ehh, if the US were a host "country", holding an event in Kansas wouldnt be as appealing as it would in say California or New York.
Not sure what event would need to be held in Kansas. You hold each event in the country wherever you have outstanding facilities already built for it.
So....the major cities essentially on the east and west coasts. Also you could probably have baseball or soccer in Kansas.
Or..Nebraska. Baseball CWS field is impressive.So....the major cities essentially on the east and west coasts. Also you could probably have baseball or soccer in Kansas.
Off topic of course for this thread but KC probably isn't ever going to make it for a big big thing just because of the infrastructure like hotels and transportation (lack of public transit a big one even with the Streetcar) and whatnot and it's not for lack of trying to get huge things here (although we did host the Super Bowl) but KC would be good for baseball, basketball and soccer in terms of Olympic sports. All are conveniently located near enough to each other but cars would be needed. Soccer is on the KS side (and there's a lot of soccer fans here) with baseball and basketball on the MO side. The Big 12 tournament is already held here for basketball at the former Sprint Center (now T-Mobile Center) and Sporting Park has held the Lamar Hunt/U.S. Open Cup game as well as the MLS All-Star game as well as the US men's team. Kauffman Stadium for baseball is considered one of the best around.So....the major cities essentially on the east and west coasts. Also you could probably have baseball or soccer in Kansas.
No one wants that job, because it's incredibly expensive like all international events. The idea of having a permanent host country for the Olympics has been floated before, but has never really gained traction. For one thing, it would mean that the IOC wouldn't get its usual bribe money.
And if it ever did happen, the permanent host country would almost certainly not be the US. It would probably be Greece or France, the two countries most closely associated with the Games. Not sure either country wants that job.

With Eurovision, the winning country hosts next year. When Portugal won in 2017 it was an issue, because the country had enough financial issues already.
