When do you think grocery shopping will have a sense of normalcy again?

Still no TP near us in the quantity and brands I prefer. ... The man (DH?) has learned a valuable lesson: when I tell him to buy TP and it's readily available... don't bring home paper towels instead unless he's cutting it down and using it on his tushie ...
Perfectly okay to use the paper towels, Kleenex, pages from an old phone directory, etc. but throw it in a bag (either plastic or paper) kept nearby instead of into the toilet.

Racism! One radio talk host mentioned a store where all the white eggs were gone but there were plenty of brown eggs.

Another thought... I know that I got paid on Friday, as I'm sure many did. Some may have had to wait to go to the stores this weekend, which I'm sure made them more crowded. Lots of people buying lots of stuff at once takes a hit pretty quickly. I think once the period of stocking up is over, we'll be able to go to a store and see full shelves. It's just a matter of stores keeping up with demand now, but eventually, most people will have what they need and will only be going out to replenish.

Another thing I totally forgot to factor in to why NYC markets aren't hit as hard as suburbs. Most people don't have CARS! We can only take what we can carry!

Is normalcy a word? Did I just make that up?

Anyways - after this initial wave of panic buying, things should level out right? This is the type of stuff that makes me anxious, seeing everyone else panic.

We are going to walk to a different grocery store today, just need a few things that shouldn't be sold out. And curious to see how that store is doing in comparison to Target yesterday.

I think when stores are able to restock after this initial shopping craziness, things will stay on shelves longer - excluding tp and sanitizer of course! :D

Post here and let us know how your stores are stocking up, or not!

Next week. People will run out of space in their freezers, pantries, and TP-sheds. lol

I was at Walmart yesterday, and they had hand sanitizer.
I was a "store," and they had toilet paper.

I still haven't seen any bread.

I am glad that I went to store and bought the basics before the shiat hit the fan.

Just returned from a quick Kroger run as I had to drop off something at DD's school. (realized I was down to 1 onion and no cold cuts.)

Produce, meat, and dairy were all in stock. Food wise, still missing the majority of pasta, rice, and lots of canned goods.

Paper and cleaning products still missing. It could've been stocked this morning and sold out, I went 2 hours after it opened.

Employees at the store were friendly and cheerful, they are making the best of this situation. Patrons were calm and collected, many with their kids.

Everyone is adjusting.

First store at open...they were still waiting on trucks. Meat cases were bare bones, the butcher guys were just standing there saying sorry. No potatoes, onions, carrots, sweet potatoes, peppers. No bread, rice, beans, flour, sugar, milk, eggs, butter, lunch meat....made sure to remind us no alcohol purchases until 7am at check out. :P

Second store...toilet paper 4 packages of cottonelle all alone on the shelf. Yes I bought all 4, my kids might need as well. Grabbed 2 of the last packages of chicken breasts, and they had vegetables. Now if I could just get my husband to eat all the darn frozen dinners he buys at the store and never eats.

Daughter works as a checker at the first store...she has been yelled at a lot this past week. Someone actually said to her they know the grocery workers are hoarding stuff away. People should wait till closing and rob the workers as they leave.

Hoping for a new normal in a couple weeks.

Stopped by my local chain (I mean a chain local to my state) this morning shortly after 0600 on my way home from work. A determinedly cheerful lady had to keep announcing over the loudspeaker every few minutes which items they were limiting.

I did want bread, and I did want milk, and apparently no one likes Oroweat White OR Wheat (we use a loaf of each), nor does anyone like skim milk, because the only milk left was about 6 gallons of skim (which works out because that's all I buy).

I did NOT find liquid hand soap (which is annoying because my usual big refill bottle got all used up) but I did find liquid dish soap and shredded cheese. All in all I was pretty happy. I'll stop again in the morning... I would like some more ground beef because I want to make a meatloaf for dinner this week when all my kids (3 teenage boys) are here.

If your DD still has school, panic hasn’t hit your city yet. I hope it stays that way.

😞I’m sorry that happened to your DD

Oh no, she’s out! Panic hit our area last Wednesday. (I’m in Cincinnati, we’ve closed all schools, restaurants, and bars.)

I had to stop by her school (Catholic school/church) for a different reason. I was in and out in 1 minute dropping off something to the office.

I am thinking that a 50/50 mix of hand dishwashing liquid soap would be adequate and safe as hand liquid soap. Used full strength the dishwashing liquid may be too harsh.

Do not use machine dishwashing soap or liquid for hand washing.

Attempted a Costco trip, took one look at police handling traffic to get from main road into the parking lot, u-turned, went to another store that it killed me to buy things overpriced but I just couldn’t do Costco today.

By the way, saw a lot of people with masks and some with gas masks on in the grocery store.

Saturday I was in line at our local big supermarket and some jerk started the same thing - amounts were limited and this idiot was very upset. The checker - a woman of about 45 - said, "Of course, honey, we get to hoard much more than you do. A perk of working here. You should see how much TP I have." Everyone around her laughed and (fake) high-fived. Made the jerk feel like a fool.

I was in Kroger around 9:30 this morning and it was calm compared to Friday around lunchtime (which made me feel like the world was ending). There still wasn’t any TP or much meat or chicken, but there was bread, which gives me hope. The lines were normal.

Made my daughter laugh, I sent her a message saying I got toilet paper. This was my message right after.

When you tell the story of me getting toilet paper...include all the details. I pushed 3 Hells Angels, unplugged the battery power on 2 people's power scooters, tripped a few other ladies.....the kids were easy. I just pointed to the candy aisle and yelled candy. This was mad rush at store open of course.

All a joke but we need some of that right now!!!

I have not found grocery stores in the Pittsburgh area to be much of a problem, but I have no need of toilet paper for months. I went to Aldi today and there was plenty of fresh fruits and veggies, dairy, even got frozen green beans but it looked like there were some empty areas. The only thing I didn't get was my preferred pasta sauce. They had others, but not the one I prefer so I skipped. We buy our TP at Costco, as well as mega bags of rice, so plenty for the 2 of us.

My DS in the Seattle area said he went to the store, needed TP because he was out, and felt a bit weird buying the last pack on the shelf. He works from home and is relatively clueless about what is going on in the world.

We're staying far away from Costco at the moment! Went to our Kroger today and it was a bit fuller than usual, but not too bad. They were out of TP, paper products, and most canned goods. Plenty of fresh produce though! Employees were actively stocking shelves which was great to see. I will say that I can't believe how much four sticks of butter cost because that is always something we buy at Costco!

I've used dawn to wash my hands for years. Really cuts the grease when hand soap won't.

Not even remotely funny. Everyone knows brown eggs are local eggs, and local eggs are fresh!

Did you check the International aisle for rice?

Monday and already things are getting back to normal here in Los Angeles. All the hoarders have their months of supplies and the trucks are being unloaded.

I was at Trader Joes this morning - bread and milk and eggs all stocked, out back a refrigerated truck filled with all the usual frozen goods was in the dock with another truck waiting.
