Official 2020 Star Wars Rival Run Weekend - CANCELED

Personally, I’d like to see them do the races as virtual races, and they can send us the medals, shirts, pins, etc, that we have already paid for. The items have already been made, they might as well be distributed. I know a lot of people couldn’t reschedule for various reasons.
Not me. I paid for the opportunity to run through Disney world. I have no interest in running around my home for over $200!!

My idea scenario would be a combination of the ideas that have been given on here. I'd like the opportunity to put my registration towards a future race or receive a (partial) refund via gift card, but also have the medals/shirt distributed since they have already been made. I agree that I don't want to have all my money go just for a virtual race, but I really do love those medals and would still like them.

In the event that someone from runDisney is reading this thread: What I'd like is pretty simple (two things):
  • Opportunity to run virtual to earn the shirt and medal
  • The value of the registration in Disney Gift Cards (which can be used to apply towards another Disney Half Marathon)

I‘ve got to give this idea a big thumbs down. I didn’t pay RunDisney race weekend prices for a virtual experience.

What I think is most likely to happen is, like the cancelled half, they’ll give everyone their shirt and medal(s) and then offer either deferral to another weekend or a refund (maybe only partial) in the form of a Disney gift card. After having to shut down the parks, they’re going to be desperate to get people back to recoup as many losses as possible. Gift cards encourage future visits.

If they go that route and you want to “earn” your shirt and medals virtually, go for it!

definitely not Option 1...no virtual!

I'm still holding out hope that Disney is back open by then and the race goes on as scheduled. It looks like things in China are slowly heading in the right direction, with stores and factories re-opening, even though it took a while there before it was clear what was going on at first and any countermeasures were implemented. Hopefully that's an indication that the virus won't turn out to be as contagious as feared, and we'll be able to have a better appraisal of that before the end of the month.

At 55, this will be not only my first Disney race, but my first race of any kind (unless you count the Star Wars virtual race I completed last Sunday as part of the Kessel Run Challenge). We've got plane tickets and Disney Resort reservations, a ChEAR Squad ticket for my wife, and tickets to Villains After Hours on the Friday before the race, so needless to say we've really been looking forward to this trip. :sunny:

i still question why THIS virus is so huge...why THIS ONE?!! Swine flu killed 10 times more people on the low estimate... yes over 1 year and this is 3 months, but still. Fake news and Twitter are responsible for spreading panic.

What’s happening in Italy isn’t fake news or Twitter hype. Their healthcare system is being overwhelmed by the rate of transmission and the fact that many who recover still require hospitalization, sometimes in the ICU. The preventive actions being taken here are to avoid getting to that point in our healthcare system. I know it’s frustrating when relatively little seems to be happening at the moment, but if we wait for it to blossom, we’ve waited too long.

You cant compare this to previous virus as this is just starting. But the difference between South Korea and Italy is one got on to early and set up restrictions keeping the virus under critical numbers and hospital are keeping up. Italy waited to to late and now people are dieing as hospital can't keep it up. Hate to say it but form the outside looks like usa is closer to Italy when it comes ot testing (same with Australia where I'm from). Its to late now as it has spread already and test will just confirm that. Most case sin Australia this week have come from travellers from USA. Just got to hope there is enough beds in the biggest outbreak areas or it will kill a lot more then standard flu

Anybody still going if the race is cancelled but the parks open? Thinking of still doing the mileage around the resorts, esp if they decide you can pick up shirts and medals. I think some people ended up doing it when one of the races got canceled before

I can't imagine that scenario. I think if they decided it's okay to open the parks, with all of the thousands of guests, parade crowds, and the handrails and lap bars and everything else that people touch over and over all day, the race would be given the okay to go on.

But no, I don't think I'd run that way, it wouldn't be the same. I'd wait for my next chance for my first runDisney experience.

If race is cancelled I'm cancelling my whole trip

I've already started to cancel stuff. I can't see it approving for at least a few months. I can't see disney world reopening unless they can show how they will avoid spreading it worse or it starts to improve by it self overall

I might, but my work may also make me stay home upon return for a couple weeks if Florida ends up being a Community Spread area. So... I don’t know. Right now we have to report personal travel beyond 100 miles (currently at my parents’ house more than 100 miles away).

I ran a 50k today. I’m glad I was able to get at least one race in this spring if all others are canceled.

I was in need of a vacation anyway so right now my current plan is to go if the parks are open. It is a solo trip so I won't have too much trouble with social distancing (relatively speaking). We'll see how the next few weeks go though since so much is up in the air.
