Totally off-topic comment... Today began National Suicide Prevention week in the US.

Unfortunately that day for me was marked by heading to a local funeral home to attend the visitation for a former HS classmate. I am not close enough with this person or family to truly know the details, but all of the indicators of this "unexpected passing" are suicide. It's sobering, unsettling, even disturbing to think that a father of 2 who married his HS sweetheart found himself in such a situation that this was "the only way out". I think of 2 elementary aged boys who will grow up without a father, I think of a wife who has to deal with a gamut of emotions that I can't begin to even fathom, I think of a mother who has to bury her son. All I can do is pray for this family who now has to find a way to put one foot in front of the other and somehow move on with their lives now.

It feels odd to me to be somewhat shaken by this event given that you'd almost describe this person as an acquaintance at this point. It seriously has shook me - How this happens is just incomprehensible to me. If anybody here is struggling with thoughts like this - reach out to somebody. Find help - call the suicide prevention lifeline 1-800-273-8255 or if you aren't sure who to talk to PM me right here on the DIS. No family should have to go through an unthinkable tragedy like this.

I am so very sorry for you and your acquaintance's family. I practiced for years and have many thoughts on the subject but will be succinct and say we never truly know what someone is experiencing. William Styron (author of Sophie's Choice) wrote a short but very helpful (to many of my male patients) book called Darkness Visible which, if anyone wants to know how deep and dark the well of despair can be, assists in that understanding. I am sorry for your loss.

I feel like transferring URs to Hyatt is something that doesn't get discussed enough. I personally am no Hyatt expert but it seems like there's a TON of great redemption opportunities out there and that 1:1 UR transfer can be a goldmine!
I think it is the *best* transfer option to be honest.

Thanks for reinforcing one of the things I did for our Oz/NZ trip! Our cruise is out of Sydney so "mom" applied for a CSP, paid $4000 of the cruise fare, earning 68K URs and transferred 60K URs to Hyatt. Hyatt allows member to member transfers with a form (quick 1 day turnaround) so bam! 2 nights at the PH Sydney, which is one of Hyatt's aspirational properties. The cheapest nights for our stay are retailing over $1000/night so this was a great redemption, at least for me.

@mmmears has inspired me to visit The Starry Night in NYC (I'm a Van Gough fan) so at some point I'll be looking at doing something similarly for PH-NYC. "Mom" was just approved for a CIC so I have a sneaking suspicion I know where "her" points are headed.

That’s a pretty wide open question. If you can provide the information we ask in one of the first few posts we could probably provide some better advice.

I also have a Discover card, a Disney Visa, and a Lowes card I've had for many years.

We are hoping to go back to Disney in February of 2021 for the Princess Half and a six day family trip. I have airfare covered plus $70000 in Capital One Miles still available. We really would like to be on-site or at a hotel with race day transportation and we need park tickets.

We are both under 5/24, but I'm not sure how the Chase cards can help us? I can easily meet a $3000 spend, and we do pay cards off in full each month. Any more than $3000 requires an unusually large purchase, but does happen occasionally. We would appreciate any advice you can offer.

I was just looking at the Hyatt in Maui. Looks like a great option for us! Just need to save up some more URs. 😎 Ready to apply for my first CIP this week.

We stayed in the Maui Hyatt last year. It was great; no complaints. Transfer of points direct to World of Hyatt is super simple and immediate. On all award bookings you don’t have to pay resort fee. Our only out of pocket charge for the resort itself was parking. We had a standard room since just booked with points but they upgraded us to ocean view.

Thanks, that is nice to know. Will be keeping it on my short list of options. 😊

I think it is the *best* transfer option to be honest. I've felt that way for years and years now, too. The ability to do a points and cash booking makes Hyatt points the best - can really stretch your currency (real and otherwise) this way.

I just look forward to getting past November so I can get myself some Chase and Hyatt points again. :rolleyes2

Totally my happiness at being able to get some UR's! I have Disney covered with DVC points for the most part. My other regular place is the beach and right now, the Hyatt Place is second to none for an oceanfront stay in my preferred area on the Boardwalk. I know that next year a free night certificate will no longer cover the room if its not booked soon. My alternative is the Courtyard Marriott Suites, but at 50K with Marriott's variable pricing, it can wipe out a points stash fast. I can't wait to get my Hyatt free night to lock in that particular night next summer before Hyatt does the points adjustment. The reason I'm sure it will change is that they've had a very successful first season. Plus the Dewey Beach location changed for 2019 and they don't command the same $500 rates in the high summer season.

So, for 2020, I have the existing organic points to make a nice stay, but for 2021, I'll need a CIP to be able to transfer in the required points - figuring 20K per night. I'll easily have the UR's to do 2 years (2021 and 2022) of 3-4 night weekends. Fall and winter stays are okay at the other Marriott properties that are not directly beachfront and I have the Marriott free nights and points stash for this, plus greatly reduced cash rates. My all time favorite is the Holiday Inn and Suites, but - it is needing a full renovation of the rooms to be great again. The location and layout is excellent, the beds are comfortable but the baths although kept up are declining and the galley kitchens are a gut job. Still, I'll always do at least one night (50k points) for the best kids pool of all the spots I frequent and the best full sized balconies.

I just found out about a similar situation. Only he was someone I babysat for for years when I was a teenager and his parents were close friends of my parents. He passed in January and his mom only had the strength to talk about it a month ago to tell my mom. They live across the country from us so we only see them infrequently, but it shook me too and left me with so many questions and deep sadness.

As I’ve been without an MSR for a while, I’ve been putting a lot of spend on my BoA AAA card, which hadn’t previously been getting much use over the last year. There was an offer emailed the end of July for an extra 2%, up to $100 cash back, as a statement credit, so that’s $5000 spend. Anyone else working on this offer? Just wondering, because I’m just hoping the offer credits properly. The offer ends 9/30. Would be interested in hearing DP’s of when people’s credit posts. I was thinking there was somebody else here that also got this offer on a BoA card.

And I booked the first 2 nights of my beach trip for next July. I wanted to lock in one weekend night, but they've already got it restricted to a two night weekend minimum, so I used my points to book Friday and Saturday nights of my preferred July weekend. When my free night gets here I will add on Sunday night. Daughter and kids will probably be with me and she usually drives to work very early Monday morning, and I bring the kids back. Hubby likes the beach trips and may show for one night but he's unpredictable. I'll probably arrive Thursday and stay Marriott for the first night. I'll need to book that certificate room as soon as I get my next 35k one in October. That's assuming they don't mess the rate up before I get the next 35K certificate.
Now, I have to start MS'ing my Hyatt card, right after I finish my CIU which hasn't arrived yet.

The end of Future World is definitely sad. I will miss the fountain and that music soundtrack (I assume it will be removed, no confirmation yet). Anytime I watch a vlog and hear it in the background I smile. I believe in the latest information from D23 that The Land should remain safe in the "World Nature" neighborhood.

Living with the Land also just received an update to it's screens at the end of the ride. Fingers crossed the pavilion remains safe besides the new video upstairs and upgraded paint/flooring! I also think Soarin' will need to change at the end because Epcot will look different, but I am ok with that. Those fake fireworks are terrible!

Is this a typo or did you really close the card after only a few months? If so, he may have trouble getting more Chase cards. You should always leave cards open at least a year. Close when the AF has posted and they will refund you.

Are you interested in opening up business cards? Any kind of side hustle will do, selling on Ebay/Facebook, tutoring, babysitting, grass cutting etc.

Chase URs are pretty versatile...they can be cashed out or used as a statement credit...if you don’t find value booking hotels, flights etc through the Chase travel portal or transferring them to hotel or airline partners

Was your DHs SW card opened this May and you have closed it already ?
If so it’s recommended to wait a year before closing a card

i got hacked... :(

700k UR --> Cash to an unknown account. :'(
its been all fixed but now my problem is trying to figure out how they got in.

Same thing happened to me a few months back. The points were from my Ink account with the transaction being requested via telephone. I do check my point balances regularly and literally happened to catch it just a few hours after the transaction had been requested, but was still in pending status. I never received an email notification of the transaction. The initial UR rep accidently gave me some information of the transaction particulars, but once she realized it was fraud and transferred me to the security group, they were adamant of not giving me any additional information. I set up a telephone password that I now have to use if I have to call in. All points were restored and I have not had any issues since.

I can only assume that with the various large scale data breaches that have occurred, my information must be out there somewhere. I'm glad that you were able to get yours fixed too!

I've only done it for the Hyatt MCO and a Hyatt in Knoxville, and even for those it was a great deal! I'd love to do a whole trip UR>Hyatt sometime. They have some good looking properties.

Good message! We had a 14 year old neighbor girl who committed suicide a few years ago. It was so very sad and tragic as she had her whole life ahead of her. Over her dad not letting her go out with some boy. It led to conversation with my then 6 year old about the importance of sharing his feelings with us and that is nothing that he should be scared to share with us. And I reiterate that conversation with him frequently.

And talking about @Albort 's recent misfortune, I just looked at my emails and in addition to my confirmation email, Hyatt sent a separate email about 'recent account activity' and if I didn't do it contact them immediately. That's a good step that hopefully happens with every action on the account other than deposits.
