After spending hours on the Delta vacations site, pricing out the amount of my package and MRs I need to transfer, Amex wouldn't let me initiate the transfer because the names on my Amex and Skymiles accounts don't match. Apparently in 7 years of marriage and using my married name, I had never flown a single Delta flight or updated my account. Good news is I have 20k Skymiles sitting there that never expired.

I'll send in my paperwork tomorrow to update my account, but I hope they run another promotion again, as I don't think it'll get updated in time. Lesson learned!

On the other hand, maybe it's for the best as we need a new fridge, washer, and dryer for the new house since sellers are taking theirs. Disney tickets vs home appliances...adulting can be so hard!

The key is getting the insurance so you can refund the flight and hotel portion. The tickets are nonrefundable I would stick with a Disney hotel to insure ticket delivery but otherwise it doesn’t really matter as that portion will be refunded in a voucher. If you want to lay out as few points as possible to the flight/hotel portion (I did) I booked ATL-MCO, 10/22-10/24, 2 nights all star music. With the tickets the package was $3900 with the insurance, I got 4 10 day tickets. I paid with 200K SkyMiles. I will end up with the tickets and a voucher for $860 for 200k miles

Pulled the trigger and booked the exact same flight/hotel for 1 person with 4 six day park hopper plus tickets. Flight/hotel was $433, tickets $708 each. The DP from @LB002 is a little worrisome, but hopefully I'll get the tickets by e-mail tomorrow without issue. Planning to use them Thanksgiving 2020.

I had 3k odd SkyMiles and transferred over 160k MRs. The MR transfer cost $96. If I compare to Undercover Tourist specific date tickets (for Thanksgiving week this year), I'm getting 1.44 cpp. Not apples to apples, but I probably wouldn't buy flex tickets if paying OOP. If I get the full value from the $433 as a voucher, it would up to 1.71 cpp.

I didn't buy the insurance, which was $150 (cheaper option). It showed that my fee would be $2972.70 if canceled by 9/21 (took a screenshot just in case). Tickets were $2832 total, guess that means I would lose $140.70 (no clue how that's calculated). So didn't make sense to me to spend $150 to not lose $140.70. If I was looking to get a larger voucher, then probably it would make sense.

Thank you to everyone providing DPs! @kidsfirsttrip your step-by-step guide was great. Originally, I was trying to make it work with a spring break trip (actually using the flight and hotel), but cost was just too high flying out of SFO/SJC. Being able to just buy tickets is great. This is actually my first MR redemption! Not counting using 1 point for Amazon deals, lol.

Wow, irony haha! I was just trying to research this and find out the eligible flight dates. Does the email mention those?

This could possibly be a huge loophole opportunity for those with Christmas and potentially Thanksgiving flights if those holidays fall within +/- 14 day window!!
THANK YOU!!!!

I was just able to book my sister's flights super cheap. I booked the lowest price offered on each day covered by points, then changed them for 0 points to the desired times. WOW!
Remind me, how to I do this?

@SouthFayetteFan @PolyRob Never mind, figured it out. We are booked for flights to Orlando for Thanksgiving! Had I known I could have changed for DCA, BWI or IAD for free, I would have looked for cheap DCA flights and adjusted them but oh well! It was still way cheaper than the actual Thanksgiving fares.

And now I can go back to sleep.

Ok, I had to check! I now got 3 of us to Orlando out of BWI for 12870 SW RR thanks to DCA pricing + CP at Thanksgiving!!! Now to book a resort!

ETA:
I was using 12/3 which I moved to 11/27 and 12/4 which I moved to 12/1 and changed DCA to BWI both ways.

I had a weird thing happened with my SW return flight booked for 11/21. Back a few weeks ago when a bunch of flights were changed through 11/20 I decided to proactively call and change mine because it was still listed as a Max 8 flight. So I went from a direct 2 1/2 hour flight to one with one stop and a one hour lay over. I just checked today and that flight now has a 3 hour lay over ( which they didn’t email about) and my original flight is no longer listed as a Max 8. So I changed back to my original direct flight for the same number of points. Phew!

Sometime overnight my payment on CIP#1 posted. Whew! Nothing like waiting until the last second, Chase.
AND, my payment for CIP#2 is due one day later... so now I get to be all stressed and waiting again :surfweb:

And then the CF payment is due 4 days after that! Hopefully no delays with this one.

I wish Chase would hurry and come out with their Q4 bonus categories for the Freedom. I know it'll be in the next couple of weeks but I want to know RIGHT NOW so I can plan (or not) some purchases with specific cards. This card shuffling is stressful!

Non-Disney resort. I am speaking to a rep and she said they get the docs from Disney and then send, which doesn't sound like how it worked for you. The document department closes at 4:30pm EST. She really doesn't know and is connecting me to a supervisor.

Do the kids have to be strong swimmers? Mine are only so-so.
OK, new DP re: Delta Vacations promo... The rep I spoke to could not tell me if I was getting a ticket voucher or if I had to go to Will Call, so she transferred me to a supervisor (I booked an offsite hotel, not Disney like @kidsfirsttrip, and teh wording is different). The supervisor noticed I only had 1 person flying and 4 WDW tickets (at which point I wished I never called and just crossed my fingers and waited), and said that she wasn't sure if they would issue 4 WDW tickets, and if they did they would all be in my name. The name should not be an issue because they are transferable (if unused), but it is still a question mark if you will get 4 tickets if you book his way. She said she would have to check with their Disney office, which was not open. I pointed out I was bumping up against my 24 hour cancellation window and did not want to wait and chance it. I pointed out (nicely) that I was sold 4 tickets, paid for them and had received documentation, so she did some magic to make it work for me. HOWEVER this could definitely be flagged as an issue and adds uncertainty around whether or not you will get multiple tickets.

The supervisor said it should take 24-48 hours for the tickets to be issued and I would be receiving a "confirmation number" that could be used in MDE. She also said you have until 11PM central time to cancel "next day".

The supervisor said Disney has updated the way they issue tickets and as such Delta is updating their systems to accommodate, so she thinks the "mistake" (the site allowing 4 tickets for 1 traveler) could be caused by the IT update.
I wonder if they really send the tickets differently but did you book more than 24 hours ago? I think the non-Disney resort may be the issue but I’d think they’d distribute all tickets the same way. Keep us posted!

@Andysol - did you get your tickets? Did you skip the insurance and any word on your voucher?

The flights I had booked were from 12/7 to 12/29...and yes you can use the loophole....just saved a bunch of points rebooking my son possible Thanksgiving and Christmas trips back home

So a few thoughts:
  • Do you have a P2 who hold any Amex cards that you could use a support link? That would bolster your earnings from this one application. If not - you could consider using a DISchurners link
  • Are you aware of the pitfalls of the Amex RAT? Are you prepared to meet this MSR methodically over the course of a couple of months and then continue put regular recurring spend on this card? If not, you could be "one and done" with Amex (a victim of the popup message).
  • The offer itself is a fairly good offer and of course, since it won't affect 5/24 you're good there. With Amex and one bonus per "lifetime" you want to make sure you're going for their best offers when you pull the trigger. I don't know enough about the history of Amex Hilton Biz offers, but this one doesn't seem bad in my opinion on the surface.
It's ok but not great. Keep in mind the plethora of Amex pop-ups associated with Hilton cards. In my mind that means I really really want a Hilton card to be worth the bonus. The last one had slightly more points but also included the Free Night cert and that can worth hundreds of dollars in itself. Personally unless I really needed HH points I'd pass for now and see if that better offer pops up again.
Thanks for the advice. I’m not sure what I want to do next. I’m ready for a new msr and would like to start accumulating either Hilton or Marriott points. (which is better for an eventual Hawaii trip?) Or a travel eraser or cash back card (still trying to earn as much as possible for WDW 4/20).

I don’t have any Amex cards yet, so I get mailers for the 100k platinum all the time, but I’m at 4/24 (until August 2020) and don’t want to use that last spot just yet. I’m guessing once I’m in the Amex game those mailers will stop.

If the Hilton biz doesn’t look like my best option, any other suggestions? Thanks as always!

I used to have all different due dates like that. Was hard to keep track of and drove me batty. I found out that you can change your due dates on the Chase site. Now I know that everything is due the same date every month. Maybe this would be helpful?

Ooh, I will go look at that! Thanks!

Just a couple of misc DPs. I used Chase to purchase a vaca house in Sebastian, FL and got 75,000 points on my CSR. I bought sunglasses in Cancun using my Amex plat, lost them 3 week later in the ocean during our DVB stay. I submitted a claim through Amex, they rcredited the purchase price in 12 hours no questions asked. Totally did not expect anything but a hassle, so pleasantly surprised, the card is definitely a keeper for me now. I am intrigued by the CIP 2 option (almost done with the spend on Delta Biz Plat) but am 5/24 right now. What is the limit for CIP's? Thank you

I did this exact same thing with my cards
