I don't really pay much attention to football but, when I was in college, ASU (Arizona State) beat Nebraska 19-0 at (our) home. It was a BIG DEAL!
I was at that game! I was a medical intern, and we got free admission for ourselves and a few guests if we worked the game. I took some Nebraska fans - at the time, Nebraska was ranked #1 and had something like a 25 game winning streak. My friends didn't enjoy the game much, but I became an ASU fan for life. That was also my first time watching Pat Tillman play. What a great game.

@LuckyMamaInDE we did! We have Samsung and we like them. They are massive capacity (look normal size from the outside) which was really all I wanted haha They work well though and are pretty quiet!
My Samsung frontload washer and dryer bought 3 or 4 years ago have been my biggest appliance regrets (not that I've bought a lot of appliances lol).

I got them because they were a lovely burgundy color -and still are- but that's the best thing about them. I've had the dryer fixed about 4 times (heating element and other things) and the washer works but I always feel like I'm wasting water since I can't control the load size. Also, there's a piece of plastic in the front which seals with the door and it never seems to dry out completely (even with wiping down religiously) and so it smells funky (mold) and I end up doing a hot water vinegar only load about once a month to help keep that odor down. I miss my really basic functional whirlpool set SO MUCH (note-that set died after 12 or 13 years and definitely earned its keep). The only good thing is I'm guessing this set will die in another 3 or 4 years and I can return to old school basic!
Funny you should post this, my new dryer arrived today! After reading as many reviews as I could find, I went with a Maytag model and purchased it from BestBuy through RMN which was at 10%. It's replacing a GE that lasted about 12 years. Home Depot, Lowes, and BestBuy have Labor Day appliance sales right now that last a few more days.
Definetely front-load...couldn't go back. Had an LG front load that stayed in old house. When we moved into new house( 7 years ago) a new top load came with it. Laundry load size is so different. After a week we went and bought a samsung front load. Gave my brother the top load. after 6 years the samsung washer main shaft bracket to the drum broke. It was corroded through. Internet search revealed they use a different pot metal rather than stainless on this shaft. I recommend LG...we love our LG.
Just my 2 cents.
I am the proud new owner of a Samsung washer and Whirlpool heat pump dryer. The heat pump dryer is really cool and dries just as well as a conventional dryer with only a little extra time. I love them sooooo much! So far they have been great but I have only run about 3 loads of laundry in there total.

Thanks for all the appliance info :lovestruc After spending way too much time researching yesterday and today, I went with a LG front loader (a mid-range model with only a few bells and whistles) and its matching dryer from Costco. After taking into account the Costco price included delivery (so did other stores), hoses and such, installation, and removal of the old machines, we saved $500 over the prices at Home Depot and Lowe's. It seemed like everyone still had the Labor Day sales going.

Our washer and dryer are side by side in a closet w folding doors off the kitchen. Dh installed the last set when we moved here 13 years ago and swore he would never do it again because the space is so awkward.

I looked at the door seal in the LG washer at Home Depot tonight and it looks even easier to keep dry than my current front loader. Now I keep the door open and the detergent drawer cracked when it's not in use because a little bit of water remains in the folds of the seal. I haven't had any musty smells or mold issues, thankfully.

I remember back in the day this used to happen with cards. A new bonus would come out and the hype would just grab people. May 2015...Citi comes out with a 50k Hilton points offer on their no AF card w/ just a $1k MSR (yeah...back in the old days Citi had a Hilton card). People were going crazy over it so I signed up... I had no need of Hilton points, it didn't exactly fit my strategy...but I went for it.

Later that month Chase puts in place the 5/24 rule...and you guessed it - that Citi card was my 5th card in 24 months. I had to pause churning on my SSN for 6 months to wait for a card to fall off to do a CF/CSP double dip (this was before CFU and CSR even existed, lol). During those 6 months my wife got 7 cards so it's not like we were on the sidelines...but still, I got distracted by the allure, drawn by the hype, and made a bad call.

So now, when something is really drawing my eye in the game, I always take a step back and make sure that the MATH or STRATEGY makes sense and that I'm not just in a FOMO mindset. :D

EDIT: Wow - have I been churning awhile. This post mentions a card that doesn't exist anymore, is set in the time period before the 5/24 rule, and happened long before CSR even existed... I am an old man churner, LOL! 😂
For those of you that enjoyed this comment... Check out old reddit thread and this old reddit thread where people were trying to figure out what 5/24 was back in 2015 when it first hit!

It was a wild time - the name "5/24" didn't exist yet, people couldn't imagine that an issuer would hardcode a rule of 5 cards, there was rampant speculation that these DPs were incomplete, we had to be missing something! These people must not be sharing the whole story... But alas, 5/24 was real, and it was a game changer!

There's also similar info/discussion on FlyerTalk but I find it much harder to read:

EDIT: and remember how I said I have a ton of respect for lumpylump76 - the dude is right there at the forefront of dissecting what was going on! I was only a lurker at this point - still almost a year away from even creating a reddit account! (There was no need, I just did all my research without having to ask questions so until I was ready to contribute I didn't even need an account).

Yup! I gave up the flashy red/burgundy/ blue/black plus the drawers under the sets and settled for white and reliable at a pretty high price. But I feel as if they will last as long as I need them. They don't bounce or shake. They don't smell moldy. They get the clothes clean (with the help of my favorite Tide Pods) and the dryer is amazing when set on the 'sensing' setting for drying. And best of all I can set my own water level or let it be auto. And if it locks and I need to add something I forgot, I can make it open and then continue the cycle.

Are you working for Speed Queen on the side in retirement?? :rotfl2: This is exactly the information that I want....I want to set my water level, be able to add something if I want to and for the dryer to dry the clothes but not to the point that they are too hot touch and get out. You actually touched on everything I was thinking about, down to the Tide pods I want to keep using. Thank you!!!:thumbsup2 When I decide to purchase it will be when I have a MSR I need to use.

Wow, very interesting! I love hearing the "history" behind it and pre-CSR times!! It is very important not to lose sight of your plan or what works for you. At 3/24 I do not really want to get any other personal cards for months. I would only stray from that if there is a nice SUB on a United card because that will come in handy for me next year OR if Chase creates some fancy new UR earning card that isn't limited to the Sapphire rule (doubtful LOL). Either Amex biz for more MRs, or jumping on the train. I think I may be up for the ride. Citi has annoyed me with the 9/22 removal of benefits I once loved so I think I would like to take "AAdvantage" of it's loophole :rotfl:

I'm trying to find a way to make it work too and I just can't get there on the math - so don't feel bad! I'm looking at YC for dates in late January. Not every promo will work for everybody - don't get overly caught up in the "excitement" and make a mistake. (I that last statement is directed at ME...haha)

Responding to this to check my understanding of the promotion. Say you want YC for four nights (1/24-1/28). With a "throwaway" flight, the price on the Delta vacations site is $2154, which would be slightly over 100K Skymiles. I'm curious what better math you're looking at? Maybe AA miles? (I know nothing about using AA miles for Disney, so I'm hoping that's the answer.)

All the Delta talk is REALLY intriguing me because I want to stay at BC in the spring and I do not have a discount for it yet LOL I only have 105,000 MRs so at most that would be 210,000 SkyMiles and the room I want is $2,347 on the Delta website so it probably won't work. Hoping I can accumulate more MRs and another promo is released in the future!
Well you’d get about a $2100 voucher so it would cover a lot of the cost but there are some fees involved. I hope they run the deal again too!!!

Does anyone know if Simplisafe monthly monitoring codes as 3x or higher on any particular card, or should I just set and forget it on my BBP?

We're from the same generation-I was a PGY2 in '96 which explains why I don't remember any of that football season. How fun to be able to work the game-hopefully you got out of call for that :)

Another Delta Vacations question. Is it possible to use this to get 2021 tickets by purchasing 2020 tickets, letting them expire, and buying 2021 tickets, since you can apply the value to the purchase of a new ticket after expiration?

I have already purchased a package for a June 2020 trip to WDW, and I don't plan on cancelling it. I added one ticket for DD5 for that trip but we have the other tickets already. But, we're also planning to go to WDW in March 2021. Here's what I'm thinking about: could I add 3 day flex tickets to my existing package, let them expire, then use the value to purchase 6 day non-hoppers for March 2021?

This is assuming I can add tickets to my package using Delta miles. I called to ask, and the rep said I could, but I didn't actually try at that point since I'm still thinking it through.

What is a cat 3 Courtyard worth to you on a home game weekend, walking distance to stadium and in the middle of all the tailgating?

This is why I’m keeping both my former spg cards even with the increased annual fee. DH and I are marching band nerds and all our college friends go back for homecoming, our college is crap at football, but it’s in the middle of central NY and hotels are limited,

This year I’m paying 165 a night to stay at the sketchy super 8.

Next year I can use those 35k certs at th courtyard which is usually a 25k property, so probably 30k for peak pricing, this year is $422 a night, I’d say I’ll get my money worth of annual fees here

What say my WDW Experts?

I know there is no way I can see everything I want to see in one trip.
  • I am intimately familiar with DisneyLAND.
  • I am most interested in seeing the "big" rides at WDW (except maybe Space Mountain, which I hear is inferior to its DL counterpart).
  • I am not much of a show person, although I do terribly miss Country Bear Jamboree.
  • I want to ride the PeopleMover because I miss it too.
  • I have decided on NO park hoppers (one park per day only).
In your expert opinions, would it be "worth it" (I know it's subjective) to fly out there (from PHX) for only FOUR park days? One day per park?

I can get the flights (I think) for free on American with the miles I will be accumulating from CitiAA (thank you, I Love Credit Cards members).

I have a reasonable hotel quote for POP Century for 5 nights and of course I would have to buy the park tickets.

ETA: Travel party would be just me and my husband, and I am looking at early January.

Would you recommend a newbie go for that limited amount of time, or should I wait and hold out until I have at least a week or even 10 days?

You wouldn't be able to upgrade the tickets with disney until you got there so you wouldn't be able to make fast passes if that's important.

We bought our first LG front loading set 11 years ago - the washer lasted 10 years and we happily replaced it with another LG. The dryer is still going strong. Would happily recommend them.

Lots of Factors:
  • 1/24 - 1/28 includes a standard room. Our actual dates are 1/25 - 1/29 which requires us to move to a water view (which is what I want anyways).
  • I only have 5k Delta miles. I could transfer 89k MRs which would bring us to 94k MRs total. The rest it seems would be OOP.
  • I have 233k AA miles I'm looking to use - I can cash out the MRs at 1cpp for gift cards while my fallback with AA miles is 0.4cpp so I take a significant haircut.
  • Based on our dining preferences for this trip, the dining plan can save us over $200 so that's a factor I'm weighing (actually considering booking direct and cashing out the AA miles anyways - I have a whole spreadsheet on that)
  • I fully expect Disney to release some room only discount that could be 25% or even 35% off in the next month
  • If I pay cash, I can apply that to another CIP which puts 15% back in my pocket
I could probably go on - I have a very elaborate spreadsheet I'm working on to analyze the best option for us in terms of our resort and view preferences, dining preferences, potential discounts, sign-up bonus value if I pay cash, ability to source discounted Disney gift cards, etc.

I'm not trying to talk anybody out of this - it's a great deal. However, if somebody looks at it and the math just doesn't make sense for them, know that you aren't alone.

I will say that If I was sitting on 150k Delta miles right now, this could be a much different decision.

Thanks--I suspected AA miles factored in there somewhere. The dining plan is something I hadn't thought about; one silver lining to needing two rooms at Disney is that if I end up using the voucher for one room and can't add the dining plan, I can add the dining plan to the other room. Given that I don't have definite dates for our trip, the value for me is getting the tickets.

When are you going and with how big a party? 4 days with one park per day focusing on the "big rides" wouldn't leave much time for resort pool chilling but would be doable depending on the time of year. With good FP game and favorable crowds you could probably get most everything done. We did 3 days our last trip and hit most of the highlights, although they were Looooooong days!
