No more lotion...

What's next? Bring your own sheets to save their hot water?

I find this getting ridiculous. I despise slimy shower gel and always use the body lotion. It's all about the $$$ and not about saving the planet. We all know it. As others have said, I sure don't see the water bottles in the park going away any time soon.

I never check luggage and it will be one big pain dragging stupid amenities like body lotion that should be provided for Pete's sake.

glad I saw this thread so know to pack my own for our stay next week but seriously i have stayed at so many hotels 1/6th the price of disney that give lotion. It would be nice if I didnt have to pack my own to go to disney. i always use the stuff they give. ah well no more disney world after 2019. I keep feeling i am getting less for more money (not just about this-- had already decided not to return when our APs expire).

Oh does that mean water bottles will disappear in the parks? Bet not. $

They very well may be. Dasani has announced that they will transition their water to mostly aluminum bottles by next year. They have said they will still sell "some plastic bottles" but they are going to switch to that flimsy eco friendly thin plastic, which isn't usually sturdy enough for heavy use like the quantities that Disney orders. Those bottles don't hold up as well in storage and will likely be seen only in vending machines and convenience store coolers or in multi packs for retail sale.

The stinginess RE: the soap is ridiculous. I doubt that most guests think to pack their own bars of soap unless they are camping. You can call housekeeping but really, you should not have to call them for soap.

I pack a bar of soap in a soap holder and body wash with loofas. Both Dove.

Even though I don’t use them, I do think it’s ridiculous that Disney is cutting the toiletries.

I’m guessing this is why our showers didn’t have bar soap but shower gel is so hard for kids to use well. Also, I prefer shaving with a bar.

I'm a shaving cream kind of gal myself.

Gel may not have been the right word...just couldn't think of one better at the moment, but the body wash I like is the Dove moisturizing cream body wash. The "slime" is one of the reasons I dislike bar soap. That slimy film that forms on it.

We declined daily mousekeeping. We did not ask for more and just carried the one bar back and forth. We were in two rooms and both only had one bar.
Are you at Pop by any chance? I hate shower gel & had to run the soap back and forth between vanity & shower during Princess weekend this year. Was only there two nights so I didn’t bother asking for more, but a PITA for sure.

Of course . I also don't use the rinky dink hair dryer hotels supply, and we don't drink coffee. We never go through more than the towels the room has at check-in either (there are only 2 of us).
I take it you check luggage given you travel with large bottles of shampoo, conditioner, lotion and a hair dryer? These are items I would never pack for travel. I consider myself more of a traveler than a vacationer and thus never check luggage. If I can’t carry it on my back, it doesn’t come with me. Around the world, even in the sketchiest of hotels, basic toiletries are provided. Many of us can and do get by on those tiny bottles.

Disney is not in line with industry standards here. They are being cheap. Telling people to simply bring their own doesn’t absolve Disney of wrong-doing. And just because you travel one way, doesn’t mean everyone does the same.

For those people looking for a solution to the disappearing lotion, Lush cosmetics makes solid body lotion as well as solid shampoo and conditioner. The shampoo and conditioner both work well and they don’t need to be included in your liquids bag. Haven’t tried the lotions. I’m using the solid shampoo and conditioner when I travel to the Arctic. Now the Arctic is somewhere I’m not expecting included toiletries—but I’ll be living in a tent. Maybe that’s the industry standard Disney aligns themselves with these days—remote expedition travel.

I use a solid facial cleansing product from Lush, Movis. It’s great for traveling but I use it at home too. I’ll check into the shampoo bars. It’s great to find things to help downsize and simplify when traveling.

We were at Pop and then at POR (2 rooms both places). Same experience at both 😕

One caution about the Lush moisturizing bar, Full of Grace. I love it but it melts. I wouldn’t bring it to Orlando most of the year. I wonder if the the Lush solid lotion bar would tend to melt too? What about the shampoo and conditioner bar?

When I fly to visit family I only do a carry on and I pack my own toiletries either I' bring refillable travel bottles in my quart bag or with travel sizes and I always bring my hairdryer. When we visit Disney we drive.

Disney's stinginess is not absolved by my suggestion of "bring your own", it's just what you're going to have to do to get by for now. Sure Disney is being stingy...penny-wise and pound-foolish it appears, but until they come to their senses or there is enough backlash, you still gotta travel right? Still need lotion and stuff, right?

The issue really isn't whether or not everyone uses the products regularly (I do sometimes, and for some of the products, other members of my traveling party do or don't, it varies) - it's that the industry standard is to provide basic toiletries such as these, and guests have the very reasonable expectation that they'll be provided.

It's disgusting that they're nickel-and-diming guests who play hundreds or thousands of dollars a night for their rooms, and also justifying other nickel-and-diming practices such as overnight parking fees with the "it's industry standard" excuse. It's all so transparently an excuse for yet another cash-grab. They use the "eco-friendly" explanation when it suits their narrative (no plastic lids, no plastic straw - but, as others have said, plenty of plastic water bottles and popcorn buckets) and the "industry standard" explanation when it suits their narrative (parking fees!) but they're not using any sort of consistency with the application of these excuses.. As an annual visitor who chooses to spend thousands of vacation dollars there a year, I feel disrespected by these decisions.

This is really shortsighted of them. If you travel with a carryon you really rely on those in-room amenities.

Actually not so for everyone of course. When I travel with a carry on I use travel sized stuff that I bring with me.

Do I on occasion use what the hotel has? Sure. I even bring stuff home with me like many others do (honestly more for my husband's benefit than mine lol) but I almost always bring stuff with me.

I didn't bring stuff with me to Vegas though in June and the hotel only had 2 in 1 shampoo/conditioner..I really don't like that stuff and because I was in Vegas with my thin and fine hair all that smoke clung to it so I was using so much and my hair...well my hair was just not good. Not all hotels are going to have what you ideally want. I was kicking myself for not bringing my own stuff like I usually do. I do understand if people really liked the stuff Disney was providing though. Lotion is kinda 50/50 chance that it will actually hydrate my skin. I prefer to bring my own most times.

There are vacations where my husband and I don't bring checked luggage. Now my husband--he'll always forget about the travel sized shampoo stuff and would be more likely to use the hotel stuff. But he's always happy when I remember to bring travel sized stuff when we're traveling to places that won't have that stuff (say a for rent by owner place, a relative's house, etc).

All that being said I think there's different discussions that can be had. Even if I rely almost all the time on my own items I do understand how on a larger scheme little changes here and there can lead to an erosion of amenities and that aspect can be upsetting for people.

Exactly. The way things are going, they'll have the nerve to sell the refillable mugs with NO HANDLE just to save 18 cents on each while increasing the price another dollar.

(I'm sure they'd never do something that ridiculous, right??)
