Disney Skyliner (Gondola Transportation System) Read Post 1 Now Open!

You certainly get a nail on the head there. Galvanized steel is basically maintenance-free your most conditions and certainly will be here. Also once galvanized steel is extremely difficult to paint and even harder to get paint to adhere to it in the long term. I'm willing to bet that the towers that are painted aren't galvanized under the paint and instead are depending on the paint to protect the steel surfaces. Actually, over time the Galvanization will become somewhat dull instead of shiny and blend in quite well.
And the painted ones will have rust stains on them, that Disney will probably clean off. I bet the painted ones are galvanized on the inside, though, so that should help with maintenance on them. I highly doubt any of the ones that are galvanized on the outside will be painted.

I don't doubt that this will happen. Maybe not every car though.

The concept art showed that they would but character images on some of the windows as if they were riding in the car

An interesting one was showing Captain america’s shield - but I guess it is ok as not *in* a park technically

Also thought it was interesting they showed different versions of Mickey and Minnie - the newer style but also the more classic look

Am I the only one that isn’t bothered by the look of the towers?
I'm not for outside the park views. I'm a little concerned about the parts visible inside World showcase, particularly the one that is right behind the Eiffel Tower. But I'm a big skier, so these towers are things I see all the time.

We have a state fair in our state with a skyliner and I’ve honestly never paid attention to the towers before

Not sure what you mean by the "look" of the towers. Anyway, they don't bother me, but I don't doubt some people don't care for them.

I don't have much issue with the towers when you are outside the park. I guess if you are in a room at CBR and the tower is 20 feet from your door maybe that won't be very favorable. (From the look of it, you can't see them out the windows of your room.) But I don't think from anywhere else it will be much of an issue.

Even in the park - to me it's not much different from the monorail. The monorail track is NOT a pretty thing. Cement and blocky - yet it run through much of world showcase without much notice unless a monorail is running along it.

Everyone likes to ignore the fact that for 25 years there were towers just like these running straight down the middle of Fantasyland and Tomorrowland, and I seriously doubt anyone was whining about "Oh it's totally ruining the theme."

I’ve read a lot of complaints about how they change the look of the scenery. I just don’t really notice them.

I didn’t know those used to be there! I actually think it looks kind of cool

I remember riding those when I was a kid and loved them! I'm excited about the new ones.

Walt wasn't. He had one in the model.

But maybe it will block some of the Swan behind Eiffel at least.

I'm going to seize this excuse to post about what characters I'd like to see on the windows (although I have a weird feeling I may have said this before...).

I want:
Judy & Nick from Zootopia (remember them riding the Sky Tram?)
Miguel & Hector from Coco (also rode an aerial cable car in their movie)
Any combination of Carl, Russell & Dug from Up
And on the Marvel side, Rocket and any-aged Groot (Bored Teen Groot on his Videogame would be funny.)

We probably won't get more than 8 or 10 car designs repeated over and over, but it would be fun to see them do a huge variety of characters.

That's not really the angle the bothers me as much. Its when waking into France and having a Gondola tower in the middle of the Eiffel Tower. I mean they couldn't have shifted that Gondola Tower a few feet in any direction? World Showcase itself has tons of visible stuff from outside the park or backstage, ultimately another thing or two won't change the experience much, but the view of a pavilion changing while in the pavilion is annoying especially when it could be easily avoided. I'm just hoping for something to cover that gap. Of course it's really just a minor nuisance to me and I'm sure most won't care or notice.

I thnik they are going to have to move the Eiffel tower anyways. It's RIGHT on the back of the building, and I can't imagine that when you are back there in the Rat area you will see it and it will look completely wrong - so they may have a plan for it already...or maybe they just don't care.

I've been wondering if that was part of the plan also, they really aren't very far on the pavilion expansion so it's hard to tell and concept art isn't exactly reliable for minor details.
