The FDA lists just about everything as a side effect. The NRA should stick to talking about guns and leave medication to the experts.

Well the experts do say it’s a side effect of Ritalin. That and a lot of kids that have ADHD also have other diagnoses, like depression for instance.

No. Kids that go on ritalin are actually a lot calmer once they start taking the medication. Sure I guess one can have a violent adverse effect, but it's a very rare side effect that usually is associated with overdosing. The only school shooters that were had taken ritalin were in Wisconsin and Oregon and those boys had actually gone OFF the medication months before they murdered.

The NRA is becoming such a joke when it comes to finding any other excuse to violence that even some Fox News hosts can't take them seriously. And Oliver North? Really? I think that man has connections to violence and terrorism on his own hands. Oh wait...they aren't terrorists; they're freedom fighters that Ollie should be illegally funneling weapons and money too.

Exactly. A lot of kids want to be You Tube famous. I think that’s just part of their culture. The question is, how do you change that thought process?

I don't think its at all a good thing to blame Ritalin (even if he was on it) or a girl that turned him down or that his toast was burnt that morning. I do think that everything about this boy and each of the others that have done this needs to be looked at. How they were raised, who raised them, have they always had problems, is this something totally new and out of the blue, etc. Did/do they have any mental problems. We need to know what makes a person do this.

I tried to find a link but failed. Did anyone hear the Florida sheriff on the news about what they are doing in Florida with well trained resource officers and police officers in the schools there?

I try my best to not say the name of the gunmen. I wish that the news people would maybe say it once (because it *is* news) and then go back to not saying his name.

I guess this is what they were talking about this morning. I know the guy being interviewed from Florida was saying that they were either going to have police officers or trained security or use the school resource officers but that whoever would be extensively trained. So much better training than what many of them have now.

I think so. Oliver North is in charge of the NRA. He, unfortunately, has way too much influence over our government. The others have no control over anything, no matter what their opinion.

You could potentially create a single shot that would evade metal detection, but it would be unlikely to be useful for a second shot and may not even successfully fire once.

Just thought I'd barge in and say that sometimes people have what is called a paradoxical reaction, where the medication has the OPPOSITE of the intended result. It's rare, but it happens. All you can do is try drugs until you find the one that suits you.

I don't think these are new. I remember people calling in threats to school at the end of the school year decades ago. I think schools are giving it more credence than they used to.

Does any believe for one second if they outlawed all publicly owned guns tomorrow that mass shootings would end?

Do I think some steps can be taken? Yes. But I don't think it's as easy as saying "look at Canada, copy them" or "look at England, copy them".

Different strokes for different folks perhaps? I dunno. I'm sure that some positive steps can be taken. What those are and how far they go from the outset is another matter.

I'm not even American and I even heard the news about North and the NRA. It was only announced a few weeks ago.

I don't watch a lot of news. Its on in the a.m. and I listen to it while getting ready for work but something like Oliver North, I would tune out anyway. I don't remember the last time I even paid attention to anything about the NRA.

I usually see something like this school shooting posted on the news channel's FB and will then watch when I get home but not on a daily basis.

We had bomb threats every now and then at my high school..it's nothing new. We also had a lockdown due to a bullet shell found by the bathroom, profanity with graffiti on the stadium. All of this before social media exploded onto the scene.
