Spin-off Parking fees... switching hotels

The renovations are nice, in a generic way. The rooms still look clean, but the boating motif is gone. I liked the older version much better!! I'm glad when I stayed at Boardwalk we still had the Mickey lamp and Atlantic City 1920s theming!! I wonder what Beach Club's rooms look like now. Absolutely loved that Hotel when I stayed in 2004!

See, I think it looks very nautical - but more sophisticated rather than whimsical. I like it, others don't. And my opinion is the only one that matters to me. :p

I wasn't trying to persuade you to change your opinion. Just stating my own opinion on the matter.

Like I said, I don't hate it. It's more sophisticated but less themed. The new decor is possibly lost on children now, if many children even stay at Yacht Club.

I did like the wheel decor above the beds before.

I'm not sad Disney got rid of the bedspreads. But I hear they now also got rid of the runner at the end of the bed, so all beds at all resorts are all white. I liked the runner, it tied in the theme without being a full grandma-style beadspread.

When did that happen? That's sad.

.... I still admit I kind of liked the "Grandma comforters" too though. Lol.

Not sure if it is true but I read that people were stealing the runners.

This is key, I know it wasn't directed at me but I think it's an interesting point for a conversation if I may. I don't inherently dislike price increases (I mean, I don't like them, who does?) when they're associated gains. Value doesn't mean low price, value means I'm getting something that feels worth the cost, however high it may be. Higher ticket prices? New lands in DHS and promised Epcot work. Cool. Paid add-ons like DAH? Club level FP? Nifty. I pay more, I get more. All fine in theory.

Then this. This is nothing more than "our math says we can charge your more, solve no parking problems, and you'll probably just suck it up and pay, we don't care if you whine, as long as most of you pay." This mentality annoys me, it's just blatant, and it bothers me. I tend to be slightly critical of all the people making empty threats to stop coming, because mostly they don't. I try to avoid responding to things with "well, then I'm not paying anymore" because, well, I love WDW and will keep coming. This is the first new charge that has felt so inflammatory for me, it makes me think I might change plans. This year is done, so I'll wait and see and maybe they'll be a good reason to overlook this next year. I'm just angry they dared to add more fees without even the pretense of added value. It's just outright money grabbing.

Well said!

We are staying at POR for our upcoming trip, I read it on portorleans.org and I believe I also heard it mentioned here on the DIS:
http://www.portorleans.org/gallery-POR-AB-Rooms.php

Note: As from the end of April 2017, the original colourful quilted comforters, the newer themed bed-scarves, and even the scatter pillows have all been discontinued. All you will find on the beds now is plain white generic bed linen and white pillows. Please bear this in mind when browsing the Galleries as many of the photos on this site pre-date these changes.

Funny thing is I just checked 4 of the 7 Disney Springs resorts. All 4 have resort fees, and 2 of them charge for parking on top of the resort feel. The Hilton chargers a $30 fee and charges you $10 a night to park. Plus the cost is comparable to a moderate Disney resort. So if people are looking at Disney Springs resorts to escape fees, then they seem to be looking in the wrong place.

Nothing shouts theming like white generic linens & pillows lol!

I honestly like the after pic better in this one. First resort I can say that about though....

First one looks like Grandma went crazy trying to make sure people got the theme.
I'd agree with that. I think the theming was a bit..much for my personal tastes so I do like the after. Then again looks like the after had carpet whereas the other resorts getting refurbs aren't. Advantages or not with having no carpet for me it makes it feel colder, less warmth overall and plays into how I feel about the room overall.

I prefer the old Yacht club room but the new Yacht club room to me would be much improved with carpet.

For me seeing the bed legs, bare floors, etc just makes me thing of college dorms (whether other hotels in the world go to this or not it won't change what it makes me thing of). The style of the murphy beds for POP and what I believe All-Stars will also get also reminds me of college dorms though also Ikea and not in a good way.

Yes, most of the Disney Springs resorts have fees, unfortunately. I find most of them to be more inline with Values than Moderates though, price wise. They also frequently run sales. The only DS resort I've stayed at was the Doubletree. Their rooms are all 2 room suites, we stayed there when my kids were younger and still taking naps. It was a nightmare sharing one room when they were babies and toddlers and still napping. Now they are all past nap age so it's not so bad. And I paid much less than I would have for a family suite at one of the values, which is why we stayed there. I think the Doubletree does charge a parking fee, but no resort fee. Sometimes Mousesavers has a deal that includes parking.

We will be in the AB section of POR since we are a family of 5. I hear those rooms will be getting a remodel later this year. I really hope Disney doesn't ruin the rustic feel they currently have. :(
