I might as well drive and pay the daily resort fee.
I don't disagree. Now that Marriott & Starwood have linked, I've been pricing a trip to the Swan later this year ... not as big of a deal to pay their parking fee now.

I will say while it's disappointing you are charging people who by bringing their own cars tend to alleviate the stress on Disney transportation, let's not forget the Swan and Dolphin has been charging for overnight parking for years, and it hasn't diminished their occupancy numbers.

welp you got Gondola's coming to a number of the resorts to help ... plus Minnie Vans are available!

I wouldn't go near that Gondola. They freak me out, esp in the summer when they will shut down every afternoon most likely lol

Minnie Vans are overpriced beyond. Uber on the other hand, oh yes

Yea, it isn't a perk.

We already pay for the lot and everything associated with it through our maintenance fees.

That is why they won't be charging Vacation club guests.
PO-TAY-TO, PO-TAH-TO... ;) #marketing

Ah, all goes back to Walt's dream where anyone can go to Disney, regardless of price. Since hes not here, I guess it doesn't matter to those higher ups anymore
Meh. I don't have the energy for another WWWD conversation. Made my points... moving on... :wave2:

It wouldn't normally bother me at all, but we opted to drive instead of fly to save money this summer and with 19 days onsite, 14 of those being deluxe, it will cost us over $400 to park. :crazy2: That's roughly 2 return airline tickets.

Savings gone and cheaper flights gone now too.

What no one is even talking about is how if you are driving Disney is double dipping on you. Not only is your current room rate already priced with Magical Express if you drive you are spending money on a service you are not using and then being forced to pay a parking fee. That is just a cash grab if I have ever seen one.

Attendance is up over the past several years (~14% since 2010) and they know it will only go higher with Star Wars: GE coming - so I think they are willing to risk some families now not going at all if the trade off is plenty of people to replace that family and an increase % that do not have cars and are "stuck" on site and have to use Disney transportation and Disney dining and can't (as easily) get to Universal, etc.

Yup, I understand that completely, we have a good economy now and the parks are doing gang busters. I understand my revenue won't be missed by disney.

My wife and i just had the discussion this morning, our plan for this year was to purchase APs for the family to use for a weeklong trip this year and a weeklong trip for next year onsite, and to do a few weekend trips offsite during the year.

If this is implemented, both week long trips that will be used with these APs will now be moved offsite. It’s not so much the money, it’s the principle of the fact. Ive already done the math, I can save some money at a different place, maybe even find more space and enjoy my vacation.

We’ve always persuaded people to stay onsite when they ask us about planning a Disney vacation, we won’t be doing that anymore.

This will be the straw that breaks the camel’s back for us, at least for staying onsite.

Because they WANT you to take ME and then be stuck on property - they don't want you do have your own car and thus be able to go "off campus" or *shudder* to Universal
ME being FREE should be incentive enough to take it over renting a car. I don't think an extra $20/night is going to change the mind's of people who are renting cars and driving to WDW.

Not everyone flies. There are tons of people on the east coast that drive.

If Disney gave me a parking lot to park in and I could take ME to my resort . that's fine .. I don't use my car (or leave) when staying at a Disney resort. So why charge people who live in Florida, Georgia, SC, NC, Tennessee, Virginia (and northward) more to stay there? There are no other non-car options to get there. The resorts already have huge parking lots that accommodate the hotels, so it is not a supply/demand thing.

right but they are coming and there are options. Just think that is they way they are headed vs more buses
There will always be options. The point is, if people aren't willing to pay the resort parking fee, but they want to stay onsite, they're not going to spring for a Minnievan, they're going to take the resort bus for free.

This is the first time I will use the phrase "cash grab." It's just so gross to me.

I know people who are staying at a resort get frustrated when they can't find parking due to all the day visitors i.e. people going to restaurants, just looking around etc. People at BW have complained about this. It seems this policy will not effect the day people since the fee applies to overnight guests. Just a question: I thought they wanted to stop people who park at a resort, eat a meal, then go to the park. They get to park for free. I know they have a three hour limit for day guests, but is this enforced?

I don't think they will be shutting down during thunderstorms in the summer. Hurricanes maybe, but not the standard summer thunderstorms. They are sturdier than that.

But whether you are willing to use the gondolas or not that is still a transportation option open to you.
