The walking dead amc #2

When Rick is by the tree at the end of the episode... did anyone else notice the stained glass hanging between the trees? Maybe windows from the church where Carl died?
I saw that too & thought that’s what it was but still can’t figure out its significance. I don’t know how he can be that bloody from burying Carl. Carl wasn’t that bloody!

Since no one else has mentioned it I must be way off, but my first thought upon seeing wounded Rick at the tree was that everything surrounding Carl's death and the visions of the future was actually the delusions of a dying Rick. Meaning Carl is still alive and Rick is the one who's going to bite it. Is that possible? Yay, nay?

I never doubted they were going to kill Carl but now that he's dead, I'm doubting that they killed Carl.

I'm not sure what to make of the tree scene.

Does anyone think once Negan finds out Carl died he might be willing to make a truce with Rick???

See I thought that maybe it was Rick’s delusions but not that he was dying but just having delusions. But then on talking dead Chandler Riggs was on & they all said good bye to him. I just don’t think they’d go through that level of trickeration.

Who knows at this point, but I doubt they would go through all this and have Carl live.

I thought the dreamy old Rick visions were Carls hope of the future. So he is basically hoping for peace. That is why Eugene was there, and Negan.

This is precisely what Nicotero said on Talking Dead.

Doubt he'll be amenable to a truce just for that reason, but I am looking forward to seeing Negan's reaction. I think he genuinely liked and respected Carl -- I think he'll be taken aback.

My kids are appalled with how "ok" all the characters seem in the previews for the next episode given Carl's death!! They said they think Negan might be more upset than the rest of them look right now!

I agree, both groups have way too much invested and have lost way too much to just drop their fight and walk away. I think they're going to still battle it out .

The opening few minutes of the next episode, 810, are on YouTube and shows Rick and Michonne definitely not ok after Carl's death.

After seeing Morgan back in his "clear" mentality, I'm wondering how and when they're going to show his transition to FTWD. I don't watch that one and have no idea where they are in the walking dead timeline. Does Morgan lose it and leave Rick and co., or is FTWD in an earlier timeline and the current TWD set after Morgan's time with the FTWD people? If the latter, I'm curious as to what they do with Morgan's character in the next few episodes. I've always liked Morgan and I would hate if they kill him off.

Just read this article about the tree scene at the end - somewhat spoilerish, contains some comic references and theories: https://screenrant.com/walking-dead-rick-tree-scene-flash-forward/

Essentially, the article is interpreting the tree scene as a "flash forward" - perhaps after a battle with Negan. The article references the first episode of this season from back in October and how they showed a similar flash forward, perhaps tying these two scenes together. I don't really recall the scene they are referencing, but makes sense.

Interesting that you mention that re: Morgan in his "clear" mentality and whether this will be connected to his transition to FTWD.

We thought that whole scene where Carol and Ezekiel are looking at Morgan like he's CRAZY because he's about to kill Gavin was absolutely NUTS. They all just got through killing everyone else there -- but Morgan is nuts because he wants to kill the leader of that group? OK -- so the intestines thing was a tad... extreme ;) ... but not more than a lot of stuff we've seen characters on this show revert to.

But this feeling so contrived probably has Gimple finger prints on it as well... perhaps this serves as an awkward excuse to have Morgan exit the show as you suggest.

I do watch FTWD -- last season was actually better than the others. All bets now off since Gimple will now have some sort of role there where he didn't before. I'm unclear on the timeline now. FTWD started before TWD started, but I'm not sure how to track how much time has gone by... we don't have Judith's age to gauge by over there. :)

They are trying to copy LOST by throwing in a flash forward here and there. They just don't do it as well. Their flashbacks & flash forwards are more confusing to the actual timeline.
I can't speak to how Lost did it (never could get into that show), but TWD has definitely done a horrible job with that this season.

FTWD is suppose to be right when the apocalypse happens, so they are like 2 years ahead of TWD. I've heard they are gong to do a time jump with FTWD to coincide with TWD. What will probably happy is Morgan will leave Rick's group and will stumble upon the FTWD group.

We were guessing that, too -- hadn't heard it anywhere, though... not sure how much of a time jump is necessary as TWD has progressed SO slowly in time... unclear to me on FTWD.

I'm not sure, I haven't read anything, but I'm wondering if it's money driven. Usually when something is done out of the blue money is usually the cause. Chandlier turned 18 last year, Gimple maybe didn't want to have to pay him an adult salary, especially an adult salary for a main star of the show. It wasn't like Carl was a secondary character, but from what I heard they don't get paid much anyway. They certainly don't get Big Bang Theory money.

This is what I read too; that with Chandler turning 18 it would affect his contract. Not sure how accurate it is but would surprise me...I was sad to see him killed off...

What a sad episode. I felt bad for Chandler Riggs and how he seems to have been jerked around.

I'm also getting a wee bit bored of the the Negan story line. Time to wrap it up and move on. Truly the shows crowning glory season was Woodbury. Aside from that I much preferred the troop when they were Nomads.

Couldn't agree more. Wasn't Rick's goal with this whole battle to kill all the Saviors? Or at least the ones that were fighters, which Gavin definitely was. Carol has never hesitated with killing anyone either. I can see Ezekiel having concerns, but not Carol. Didn't jive with her character or the goal of the whole ordeal either.

Exactly. I won't even get started on Kumbaya Carl who just days ago shot at least one Savior and went in with a mission to kill Negan himself. The whole thing with Siddiq and his dying wish didn't seem true to Carl's character. There are similar instances this season with Michonne, Jesus and others. It's a shame.

We're sticking it out until the start of the next season, getting past the Gimple Showrunner period. Fingers crossed that the writing improves. It has felt like a bad soap opera in many respects this season. And the marksmanship runs from expert sharpshooter to Stormtrooper, depending on the contrived story need. Ugh. :headache:

I think why Carol had issues with Morgan killing Gavin is because she knew Morgan's stance on killing. I think she feels somewhat responsible for dragging him out of the every life is precious stance. It's one thing to kill someone actively trying to kill you or someone you care about, it's another to kill someone who cannot fight back, like in Gavin's case. They had him cornered, he was shot. He also was a lieutenant for Negan, maybe they thought he would be better as a bargaining chip against Negan.

I get what you're saying, but... IMO...
  • She seemed fine accepting the help while they were slaughtering everyone else
  • She doesn't say anything about keeping him as a bargaining chip
  • Seems like poor strategy to assume that a lieutenant would ever "convert" and not be a danger (Dwight being an exception as he put himself on the line and is proving himself at great risk); unless you're going to build a giant apocalypse jail and want to expend resources keeping them alive, seems like lieutenants need to go
  • And she just looked appalled -- which was just too silly to me
