Flight of Passage just not for me.

First of all, my favorite attractions by far in all of WDW are Splash Mt. and Rock'n Roller coaster. That being said, Flight of Passage was a great experience and incredibly well done. However, the virtual reality 3-D glasses affects, just did me in motion sickness wise. From a technology standpoint, it's an enjoyable attraction, even though we really don't care about the movie or story line behind it. Unfortunately, the ground moved under my feet for a week after returning home. (Could have taken dope for it, but didn't) It does disappoint me however, that Disney is moving away from Animatronics and more and more to 3-D virtual reality technology for its big thrill attractions.

I’m with you on the 3D virtual ride aspect. To me this is the easy way out. It’s a lot more difficult to re-create actual scenes, imagery, etc using animatronics. I prefer the latter, which is why I have always chosen Disney over Universal.

Hopefully they continue to put together rides like tron, pirates of the carribean, splash mt, etc. truly immersive experiences and don’t take the easy way out.

I agree. It looks like the new Millennium Falcon ride at Galaxy's Edge will also be a simulator ride which means yet another ride I can cross off my list as one I will never be able to experience. It's very disappointing to me.

I enjoy Star Tours for what it is - but Disney seems to be taking the cheap way out with this VR. Compared to, say Escape from Diagon Alley or the Spider Man ride which mix VR with ride tech in a much better way.

It's interesting to compare Splash Mountain with Little Mermaid too - both are similar style rides with animatronics but the animatronics in Splash seem more advanced than the one in Little Mermaid which is decades newer.

Same here. Haven't rode FOP yet but can't do any simulators. Which is why Universal is out for me, as much as I love their hotels.

Hoping Disney always keeps enough set-based rides.

I'm sorry, that's such a bummer. FoP is my favorite ride now but I will say I was VERY worried for about the first 30 seconds of the ride. I immediately started to get very quesy when we started "flying" and my automatic reaction was to try to "fight it" by doing everything I could NOT to immerse myself in the ride. I quickly realized that wasn't working so I forced myself to stop thinking of it as a ride and to just allow myself to go with it and imagine it was real. The second I did that, any dizziness or queasiness IMMEDIATELY disappeared. I am one of those people who was so emotionally overwhelmed by the whole thing that I cried. I will add that I take non-drowsy Dramamine every morning at WDW because I am prone to motion sickness on any kind of 3D or simulator kind of ride. Even with the Dramamine, I don't enjoy Star Tours at all. I am nauseous and dizzy throughout the entire ride so I finally stopped riding it.

I think it's a good attraction, it was done properly (unlike Soarin') film wise, the vehicle is creative and I think the queue & preview are quite impressive. I do think this is very much a "Universal" style attraction. I remember first time I went to Universal and rode Mummy as first ride. I kept saying .... wow, they really do make their queues interesting - something Disney began to do later. The ride was a mix of screens and ride .... something I really hadn't experienced or expected. Over the years Universal has built more and more screen rides, and received many complaints. I hate that Disney wants to follow suit. NOW the screen work they have done in overseas parks is incredible but I don't see us getting those levels any time soon.

We will see more in Star Wars Land and honestly the new Mickey ride of "projections" will be in same category for me. It's faster and cheaper to build. Now FOP did at least invest much in the experience aside from the actual ride. Like there are screens in River Navi but then so much decor all around it to blend ....... and one AA, which was highly disappointing.

FOP is good, not good enough to invest a tremendous amount of time in ... too many other things to do.

What is interesting is I think Disney built what they consider a NON-Thrill E-Ticket ride that most can ride. This is something folks who won't do coasters can do and feel "thrilled" by it. BUT I don't think they are factoring in all those who get dizzy from this screen technology.

I'm with you! The screen simulation type rides give me horrible motion sickness, FOP included. I really had to hold it together by closing my eyes and taking deep breaths to avoid major disaster. I love the ambiance of Pandora and enjoy just walking around. I thought Navi was short, but beautiful. I also avoid all the screen simulator rides at Universal, but enjoy the atmosphere in the parks. I would love a world of all animatronic rides and no screen simulators, but it seems they are moving more towards the latter.

It’s a shame that some people like the OP aren’t able to ride and enjoy FOP as it really is an amazing experience. I do think that Disney does a good job of mixing up the different types of rides so there is something for everyone.

I have vertigo, I hate HP FJ and won't ride it anymore ... so I understand the dizzy stuff.

A good hint for FOP, people subconsciously hold on, stay still and follow the movie with their eyes. It is really important to let your body move especially your head. Turn your head in the direction of what you are looking at, head does the work not eyes. Once I let myself do that I was fine so the next few rides I made sure to relax and move my head.

Disney, along with other theme parks, go through phases. Based on new technology, based on budget, based on consumer demand, based on competition ..lots of factors. We just happen to be caught in the Simulator phase. Not too long ago, parks (not necessarily Disney) went through the 'bigger, faster, more drops, more twists Roller Coaster Phase". It has calmed now. Trends will pass. I miss the old nostalgic rides like Snow White's Scary Adventure or Mr. Toad (which is why I get to DLR as much as I can). But ....things change. I understand if someone cannot physically enjoy these rides, that would be a disappointment. But as far as 'like' or 'dislike'...I try to enjoy as much as I can, whether or not it's my cup of tea. (*OH, yea...love the Alice ride in DLR too!!!...speaking of cups of tea).

I find that Bonine or Dramamine help a lot with the vertigo, but my only complaint with FOP is that those darn glasses don't fit right! I spent way too much time adjusting them because they kept slipping. They're way too big!

As much of an investment as Blue People Land has been for Disney Corp., it's a shame that it only has a completely lame boat ride and a high tech. thrill attraction that Many, Many people susceptible to motion sickness just cant enjoy.

Exactly!! Love the ride, but having to push my glasses back into position over and over hurt the immersive experience for me.

Sorry to go off topic but does anyone know why disney opted to only have two rows of seating on the Navi river boat ride? Seems to limit thru out capacity!!!

I can handle Soarin ok; Star Tours it's as much the jerky simulator as it is the screen. I did FOP and .. I'll take the motion sickness meds and give it one more shot. Others told me I was too stiff, not moving w/ the ride .. so I'll try to relax and let it go. I was worried about my glasses coming off too, so maybe w/ contacts it'll be more comfortable. We'll see.

So disappointed to hear this as I suffer from motion sickness. Anyone who got sick was that with or without Dramamine? I once rode Harry Potter FJ got so sick that I had to go home for the day and when I got home went to bed for hours. I dont want an experience like this again.

It's such a good ride try it once! The older I get I'm feeling Star Tours more and more but still no problems on FoP or even HPFJ. I actually think HPFJ is worse on motion sickness than this one due to the nature of the motion but I also expect this is a very individual experience. I think the air blowing in your face on FoP does help a lot for people.

I had planned to trying to get FP for our last day of our trip and take Dramamine the night before. I may try to get a 1:00 pm FP or later since it is our last day that way if I do get really sick it will be at the end of our day.
