Hurricane Irma- Now a tropical depression

I am FREAKING OUT right now. Never in my LIFE have I seen my parent's house under ANY kind of evacuation orders, much less mandatory(Pasco county west of Little Road).

I really can't think of anything else to say other than, stay safe Disers! Check in when you can!

Stay calm. Are your parents in a shelter? I don't know if anyone has seen orders for basically the whole state. Have you heard from your parents?

I probably was being dramatic...
Yes, I'm in contact. No they're not leaving. I'm calm but I am internally freaking out... May have to open the wine.

My aunt has a small ranch is staying with her animals. She put the goat and her Corvette in the garage :rotfl: (Yes she prepped the horses too)

I hope everyone in the path stays safe! I rode out Hurricane Sandy at home and we were lucky - we did lose power for about 5 days, so we lost all the food in the fridge, but we were fine, as was our house.

I'm praying for everyone.

I understand it must be hard to remain calm. I am glad you are in contact. Hopefully they dont lose power. Let us know how they are doing. Hope the goat is ok....

Largo here. We weren't able to leave because I had to be at work today, and am expected to show up Tuesday morning as well.

And beyond that, we aren't Zone A, and all the officials have been urging more and more that anyone not in mandatory evac to stay put, to keep the roads as clear as possible for those that are. We were told to be where we were going to stay by 5pm today.

And on top of THAT, the traffic on all routes out of the state is INSANE. Hours long traffic jams. This storm is going to hit, and probably pretty hard. Personally, I'd rather be in my home, with all the food and water I have, with my bed and electricity for as long as it stays on, than stuck in my car on the side of the road. I'm much safer in my house. A lot of people that left today (mandatory or not) are going to end up riding this out in their cars. No thank you.

We've got as much food as we could find, which was difficult. We filled every container we had with water, and froze some. Planning to get good, long showers in tomorrow morning, then fill the tub. Have a bunch of lights, batteries, and candles.

This is a first time for both of us so we're just playing it by ear, really. As long as we have power, we'll keep cooking, charging, etc.

I'm in Ft Lauderdale, tornados like crazy......... Hunkered down with family praying for the best.
Thank God we still have power and I can pass the time here.

Add me to the list of those with family down there. My brother and his wife are in northwestern Broward County (Ft. Lauderdale area) and I think they'll be okay, but my parents are in Hernando County (north of Tampa). They did not evacuate (they're not right on the water) and are well-prepared as they've been through hurricanes before, but I'm still worried.

That's pretty much my family's outlook too.

I agree about people being stuck in cars. :( Stay safe!

Stepdaughter is staying put in Orlando. We told her earlier in the week she should drive up here, but she had to work until Friday.

She says she's well stocked with bottled water and canned food. She made one last minute preparation today: got her nails done.

we are in northern broward county - out west in coral springs - wind gusts at times, tornado warning (lots of tornadoes earlier today), some rain. waiting for the big part of the storm to come through tomorrow morning. oh, and to top it all off - today is my 22nd wedding anniversary. so much for our plans for today, lol.

Prayers to everyone in Florida. This just sucks. We chose to evacuate to the Orlando area because we were worried about running out of gas if we tried to go to Atlanta.

Based upon the latest updates, I don't know if I'll have a home to go back to in Naples. We're in the storm surge 1 area, my house is a little less than 2 miles from the gulf if you drew a straight line.

Praying everyone is safe. Things can be replaced, people people can't.

Hope things work out; it must be nerve raking for you right now, given the direction of the hurricane track is at a critical point right now, in terms of whether is will go up the west coast or possibly go right or even hard left.

Irma has re-strengthened since moving past Cuba and has gone back up to being a Cat 4 hurricane. Current sustained winds are at 130 mph.

I'm hoping the storm surge isn't more than 10 feet in Fort Myers! From the news this morning, with the latest Irma track, it's going to be close.

 Take care, Stay Safe! We are all thinking collectively of everyone.

i wish employers would take this more seriously about people driving, I am seeing on cnn where cars are stuck already and it is only a few ft of water.
