Disney's CORONADO SPRINGS RESORT Information & Questions

I've been to the US Chess Nationals K-12 here in Nashville three times with my DD. 95%+ have traveled to the destination and they are there for a purpose. They are excited to be elsewhere and competing. I bet there is an added something with Disney, but I would not think twice about having them near by. They likely have 3 matches/day, and those matches can go as long as 3 hours each. The downtime between each is not enough to grab a suit and swim, they need to shake off the last round and get ready for the next. Now, AFTER the tournament, it might be like the caddies attacking the pool in Caddyshack during the 15 min swim
.

Has anyone ever stayed at CSR when the hotel is just about at capacity? We're staying when free dining begins in December. Buzz's Facebook page notes that there will be a chess convention there for part of our trip, and Pop Warner stays should be ending. I know it's just about at capacity at that time because when I needed to make a change on my reservation, the CM was just going to make a new one, and the CM said her computer showed no rooms available. Can anyone tell me what their experience was like when CSR is full or close to full? I'm concerned about bussing and crowds at the Dig Site. We normally stay at Pop, and we've had great experiences there with bussing. The last time we stayed at a moderate (POR), we were not impressed with transportation. I'd love to hear some words of reassurance, but at the same time, I'd appreciate honesty. Thanks!

We've had numerous December stays at CSR including 3 that ran right through the busy Christmas season. We've also been there when that chess tournament was on. My biggest tip is if you are going to eat at Pepper Market do it at off meal times and you will be fine. Eat lunch at 1:30pm not at noon or eat dinner at 4pm or 8pm. Other than meal times at PM this resort absorbs people very well and never feels crowded.

Buses are noticably fuller during the actual Christmas holiday's, but not in early December. Most convention goers aren't using the buses.

I have never stayed here, but am looking into it for a Nov. 2018 trip. For some reason when I am searching rates the only openings for this resort are the Junior Suites. I am able to price all other resorts I am interested in. The booking opportunity did just open up (yesterday was 499 days out), but all the other resorts are showing up. Any idea why?

From everything I've read on here, CSR apparently keeps blocks of rooms from being booked due to upcoming conventions. Once they know how full the resort will be due to the conventions, they open rooms. I just asked about the resort being full in December, and that was the explanation someone gave me here on this thread.

Yes, there are showers and lockers at the restrooms in the main pool area.

And chances are, you'll most likely be able to check in right away. We always have an early morning arrival flight and have been successful in having a room ready around 10am or so.

I know that the tower is still 2 years away from completion, but looking at the plans, it does not look like they are adding any pools/hot tubs, but they are adding 15 floors of rooms. Is this right or did I miss a new pool area somewhere?

That's a great question.

Thinking about our second stay here next year. First time we stayed in the Ranchos section by request, and if we stay here next year I would like to stay in the Cabanas, or I would really like to stay in the Casitas section. But I will be booking two rooms, standard view. That would be my only two request, #1, rooms being in somewhat close proximity to each other and #2 being in the Casitas or Cabanas section.

What do you think my chances are? Looking at March 3rd-7th.

When they have conventions there, do most of the guest for the conventions stay in a preferred view rooms?

We are booked for March 2018 and I had a question about the refurbed rooms. We are booked in standard. I believe all standard rooms are 2 queen beds. Do these rooms have tubs to give kids a bath in? When looking at Buzz's pictures of the rooms with 2 queens, I think I see a tub. But when looking at the recent easywdw review of a king room, there is only a tray shower. Can anybody confirm that the standard, 2 queen rooms have a tub?

Thanks!

We stayed in a refurbished room in June and it had a tub. It was a standard room with 2 queen beds.

Do CSR's room lamps have a place to plug in your phones for charging? Or are there convenient outlets by the bed to charge phones at night? Thanks!!

I just stayed in a refurbed room and it had charging outlets over the nightstand. Also had charging outlets over the long desk area.

It was our first CS stay and the room was great. Housekeeping was good. We were in Cabanas 8A. Close to the dig site pool and by the bridge to the lobby. It was a great location for us. It was our first stay on a ground floor and we liked it. My kids loved the pool. The only problem we had was the buses. Not sure if it was bad luck but buses from the parks to the resort were really slow. On our last MK day we had to wait 50 minutes for a bus to show at the stop. A couple of other times it was a 30 minute wait. I've only stayed on property once before and it was POP. We didn't have to wait very long for buses that trip.

Thank you for this info! Disappointing (and tiring) that the buses weren't prompt. Were they okay going TO the parks? Also, if you don't mind me picking your brain, were the buses ever standing-room-only on the way to the parks? Thanks for sharing!

Aside from the temporary bus stop at the front, do the bus stops have the estimated arrival time TV screens like the other resorts?
