Moana theme

And the main song happening like 15 min into the story. And the plot line full of holes. Like, why did Moana go through all that mess just to pack up everyone and voyage to a new island at the end? Wasn't the whole point to restore life to the islands so her people would survive? That happened. So why move?
That's not a plot hole. That's a fulfillment of her destiny as set out quite well in the first act. Moana has a deep yearning to explore the ocean well before her island is in trouble. That "main song" you reference explains all that, as does most of the first part of the movie. She wants to go beyond her little island and see what else is out there, but she's made to think these are unnatural thoughts to have and she should be content to stay home and stay in her place. Later she finds out that her people actually used to be great explorers who spread out across the oceans and colonized new islands. They were master sailors and navigators. Due to other events, those skills have been lost over centuries and their history has been hidden away by their rulers. When her island is in trouble she takes to the sea to save her people. The sailing and exploring is in her blood, and the movie is about unlocking those hidden talents she already possesses to become who she was supposed to be. In the end the story wasn't about just saving her island, it was about Moana discovering herself and leading her people back to their original way of life. They are seen moving at the end because they no longer fear the ocean and no longer hide what is in their blood. They have been freed from being a one-island people and are back to their exploring ways. Spreading across the oceans.

funny, my family including 2 daughters (9 and 7) love the movie Moana. I do as well, and it gets better billing than Frozen in our house. We actually think the songs in the movie are the best collection of songs in recent disney movie history. I know we arent alone in this thought, and i am sure with the 55 minute wait times at the HS Moana meet and greet at 10am, the popularity for additional WDW presence is there.

Best part is, it is a big park, if you dont like it, there is always something fun to do elsewhere.

Huge hit in our house and with most of our friends, as well.

Very well explained!! We looove Moana.

My DH and I prefer Moana over Frozen too, I even prefer the Moana music. I'd love to see some Moana trickled through the parks. Also if as Disney fans if we can deal with trolls disguised as rocks we can deal with coconut pirates .

IMG_3160.JPG I was not impressed the first time I saw Moana because it was background noise while I did other things, BUT my adult daughter has been watching it over and over and now I get the story and love the movie, the message, the music, and the animation!

My 8 mo granddaughter loves it, too.

Unlikely. I think one of the gift shops in Poly is named Moana Mercantile, doubt it goes much further than that and her possible return for a character M&G.

Moana means "Ocean". The store was there well prior to the release of the movie. With that said, my kids would love to have some interaction with her either at the parks or anywhere else. She's a big hit in our house

Well, the crab scene comes to mind. And the weird Coconut pirates. And the Australian accents. And the main song happening like 15 min into the story. And the plot line full of holes. Like, why did Moana go through all that mess just to pack up everyone and voyage to a new island at the end? Wasn't the whole point to restore life to the islands so her people would survive? That happened. So why move? I have more beefs with the unnecessary and somewhat ridiculous songs. I mean, a song about how they use all the parts of a coconut? Really? It was just songs for the sake of songs. They didn't really move the story along at all. I'm not a huge fan of Lin Manuel...maybe that is part of it. The song tempos and lyrics were too fast that I couldn't understand what they were saying. Besides the main song, none of the rest were memorable and I felt they were annoying to listen to.

I just thought it felt slapped together.

I got the message. I just wasn't enthralled with the movie. I majored in English with a minor in English Literature. I totally "get" themes, story arcs, messages, etc. I understand what they were conveying, but I thought it was done in a bizarre and, frankly, condescending way.

I love how you put your comment in a condescending way.

We must be really dumb to love that movie, right?

Just your comment about " a song about how they use all the parts of a coconut? Really?"

You can use your English major research skills to look up the cultural significance of coconut in polynesian culture. Also, have you ever seen a Disney movie? Broadway-style musical number are in most of those movies, you know?

You can just not like the movie without trying to justify your dislike intellectually. It's insulting to people who liked it and for absolutly no reason.
