Have you gotten sick on (or after) a ride?

I'm 43 and never had motion sickness.. ever. I went on Forbidden Journey at Universal after not riding it for two or three years and it was so bad I didn't think I was going to make it to the end of the ride without being sick. I never had a problem before but it was so bad I don't think I will ride it again. In those two or three years my previously 20/20 eyesight has gotten poor and I started wearing glasses to read and at night. I'm pretty sure that had something to do with the motion sickness.

I love spinny rides, I get giddy just thinking of them. I get so sick afterwards though lol. Things like Alice's teacups make me so happy but ever so sick. I generally bring some gravol with me.

Star Tours bothered both DH and I. We have found the motion simulator rides are worse than regular rides. RnR and Space Mountain didn't bother us a bit!

When my family and I go to Disney I am out on Mission Space and the Teacups. I can't do the spinning. I finally got the courage to do ToT last year and plan on doing it again. I am going to Disney at the end of the month and also curious how Flights of Passage is going to be.

I don't get sick, but some roller coasters give me a headache. Those are the ones that rattle at high speed, like the Incredible Hulk coaster at Universal (I also came close to passing out, due to the G Forces, and that rarely happens to me). Hanging on tight, and keeping my head upright, does help, as well as riding in the front row (coasters are usually rougher in the back).

I refused to ride the Hulk on our last couple of Orlando trips, but I'll try it again (from the front row) now that's it been refurbished.

Oh, and one time I did feel queasy after riding Forbidden Journey...3-4 times in a row using single rider.

A surprisingly common theme for Sudden Sickness Stories appears to be riding one ride many times in a row... :scratchin

:teeth: (glad I don't have to learn that lesson myself!)

Same here on avoiding MS and Teacups. I haven't been on the Teacups in several years despite wife wanting me to ride it with her (we've never gone on together). I've never been sick but definitely felt dizzy on Orange MS once and occasionally going backwards on Everest. But otherwise, I'm a thrill junkie; love big, loopy coasters and big drops like the falcon's fury at Busch Gardens... free standing 335 ft, with yours legs dangling and wind in your face. I like it when it tilts you towards the ground before your descent, and you slide down against a not so tight harness. wish it were higher and faster.

I've had the same thoughts on FoP. I'm hoping it doesn't make wife dizzy because I'd like to go on it more than the one time. Just like we can never go on MS. Luckily Soarin and Star Tours (barely) are ok for her.

Mission space Orange spins the vehicles so that your body gets the feeling of being weightless. If you don't state streaight ahead, if you look elsewhere, the trick doesn't work, and you will feel the spinning. And there are some people who do what they are supposed to do but still feel it as spinning, and don't get the weightless-feel trick.

So go on MS Green. No spinning.

Screaming on Star Tours??

I can feel sick if I'm under or over-fed or under-hydrated. If I hit the sweet spot with that and go on wild rides I'm fine.

They were screaming like they were bein murdered. I can't accurately explain how crazy they were. Would not have bothered me if I wasn't trying not to vomit. And it was warm in the ride. No one else was screaming like that- not a fun experience.

Big Thunder Mountain. I hadn't taken any Dramamine that day because I hadn't planned on riding anything that spins. I didn't think a roller coaster would be a problem, but I couldn't wait to get off. I had to sit on a bench for about a half hour and still didn't feel that great for an hour or two.

I never thought of the eyesight connection! Mine is going too - reading glasses (cheaters) and the beginning of night issues. Thanks for the insight!

My parents (mom can ride ANYTHING with no problem) and I rode Mission Space the original version! It was soooo bad! We could hardly get off the ride. We stumbled out of the building and there were people lying down everywhere. I've never seen anything like it! We had to go back to our room and lie down for about an hour. Had never happened before or since. Needless to say, we look the other way when we pass MS.
Primeval Whirl made me feel a little bit dizzy but it passed pretty quickly. Still don't care to ride it though.

This is a really helpful post, although I have to admit that I actually started getting nauseous just reading some of these stories. What gets me is either non-stop spinning (ie Tea Cups) or endless backwards movement. Some of the VR stuff can do a number on me too, but it depends. Roller coasters that just dip and turn (ie Space Mountain, Big Thunder, etc) don't bother me in the least and I actually enjoy them very much. What I did last time we went to Disney and Universal was to take an All Day Less Drowsy Dramamine in the morning with breakfast. Both of my kids did this too as they've sadly inherited Dad's severe motion sickness (my wife's got great sea legs and can ride anything without issues). Anyway it worked like a charm. We went on everything and while I could feel a little bit of motion sickness trying to creep in on occasion (Forbidden Journey, Simpsons, and maybe a couple of others) the Dramamine ALWAYS won. My kids did great on it too and never complained of motion sickness. Can't recommend it strongly enough.

Space Mountain is Disneyland got me, had to go to the old video game place (Spaceport?) to get my head straight lol....The Mummy and MIB at Universal got me too, I'm good with Bonine though

My entire family of 8 got sick back in the day on Body Wars in Epcot. For those that don't remember it, it was similar to Star Tours but the motion and the movie were slightly off so it made everyone sick.
More recently I got sick on Space Mountain. It was a very strange feeling and lasted for days. Almost like my brain rattled around too much.

Do you have vertigo? Sounds like you might be susceptible to it.

This wasn't at Disney but several years ago, my DBF and I rode the Scrambler at the county fair. He was reluctant to go on because he's prone to motion sickness. I got him on there and when the ride was almost over, he said something like it wasn't too bad and he was fine. Well, and we laugh now, but the guy running the ride pull the stop lever or whatever it is, and broke the stupid ride. Lol we went through the entire ride sequence at least four more times, my DBF was saying words I can't repeat on here :lmao:Needless to say, he had to find a bathroom soon after. He's never returned to the Scrambler :rolleyes1

The new Pandora Flight of Passage ride was pretty intense. I had to shut my eyes for a minute. My 14DS got sick.
