Disney Gift Card Deals

@MinMou I just received my gift card and it worked fine! So thanks again.
Got a $280 Disney gift card for $257. It was just enough to push me over another $1,000 in my DVA... So another $20 saved!
So glad that worked for you!!! And I really like the DVA too.

Gift Card deals may be difficult to come by for awhile. I think churning is finished (at least through eBay).
Any other strategies for lowering prices at Disney World through gift cards?
I use Paribus, which monitors all my Amazon and other online purchases, and it has helped me get money back when prices go down on things I purchased.

I also have started using Mpoints and swagbucks with a vengence, and am learning how to use shopkicks as well. All will give you free gift cards in return for points. I use them for Target, Sams and Walmart, so I can turn them into Disney cards.

I'm still here, lol.
I just haven't found any good deals lately. Everything has been really stale.
Thanks for letting us know. I promise to be patient!

Wow - that change was quite recent. I combined some online yesterday.

Yep, I scored some Target GCs for 17.4% off at Raise last night and went to purchase a new card with them online (so the balance wouldn't get "mysteriously" wiped before I got to a Target today) at around 1:30-2am CST and got the same message as @kidsfirsttrip. Luckily I was able to convert them to Disney at a Target this afternoon, but losing the ability to turn them into something else ASAP ups the risk a bit.

Well, I purchased one of the gift cards right after @MinMo posted the discount. Its currently out for delivery right now & I plan on using it asap, so I'll let everyone know how that works out.

Its true, every time we purchase one of these cards or try to convert gift-cards to gift-cards we risk losing our money. Just look at the number of people who were almost stuck with thousands of dollars in Target gift cards, when target changed its policy about Disney gift cards. The things we all do to save a few bucks! :scared::)

I don't think being stuck with target gift cards with their balance on them is called "we risk losing our money." There are still thousands of other items that target sells besides for gift cards. On the other hand, when buying from companies like cardcash (and now even Paypal Digital Gifts) where the risk is that you will lose the money on the gift card, that is called "we risk losing our money."

Two years ago Target discounted their GCs on Black Friday. (I am hoping they might do the same this year)

My recent strategy has been tracking gift card deals on stuff we use anyway. Target.com Subscribe with 20% off first order and a free $10 Target GC on Toilet Paper, Laundry Soap, etc... has been nice.

If you shop at Wal-Mart a lot don't forget to use their saving checker app on your phone to get refunded prices if they find a better price. I have gotten over $20 just doing that.

Watch for Amex Rewards at BB, Target, Lowes, Sams, WM. $10 off $50 and it works on GC purchases.

5% off using a Red Debit Card is still a decent discount for Disney GCs.

I don't shop cardpool, raise, or others very much because they are quite risky.

I don't think a 5% discount for the gift cards is a decnt discount. With American Express deals, you can usually get at least 10 - 20% discount. For example, in both the last 2 years amex had a spend $200, get $20 back at Best Buy around Christmas time so I would expect another one this year. That is 10% off plus the 1% the credit card gives you back. They had a $5 back on $25 at Bed, bath, and Beyond in the summer which was 20% back.

Plus, many Disney hotels can be booked at Orbitz for 15% off or Expedia for 25% off, so it wouldn't make sense to get 5% discounts to use on the hotel. And even the park entrance tickets can sometimes be discounted. Last year, Amex ran a deal at Undercover Tourist (also around Christmas time) for $30 off $150. Which was a 10 - 20% discount off Disney Tickets.

Of course, who could forget in February 2014 when ebates ran a promotion for 20% back on Disney tickets thru Orbitz. I purchased a 10 day non expiration ticket for $707.16 and got $141.43 back to make the total cost $565.73, or $56.57 a day. I don't expect that deal to ever occur again though.

I'm big into fuel rewards via Kroger. When I get back from my 12 day trip coming up the day after tomorrow!!!! I plan to use the visa gc/Disney trick at Kroger someone posted awhile back to double up my fuel savings to $70 on every $250 minus activation fees. Public also has great deals for 20% gas card which I put the savings toward my vacay fund then use that money to convert to Disney at Kroger. I posted a few pages back when Publix did the $10 off $50 Visa cards. I was able to get $500 in those total over an extended sale.
I'm still watching eBay for gc sales. If they have 15%+ off I'll buy there without the ebucks in future. I'm using shopkick, M+ places and swagbucks. Target free gc sales occasionally are great and will hop on those with coupons on top of that to maximize savings. I was up to $1219 already toward next year without churned money not including this ebucks redemption coming up.

Edit- I also like to use my gc to pre-buy souvenirs like ornaments or Arribas brothers gifts online when they go on sale for 25% off rather than buying in parks where I only get 10% with my AP or Disney Visa. I also use a Chase Sapphire cc bc it transfers 1:1 with my preferred travel partners - I've gotten companion pass for DD this year and also we fly for free most trips so while it's not a gc saving that airfare is huge for my vacay budget!

I bought tickets from Orbitz during that promotion. You are right that was a great deal!

But for people who have a special budgets just for vacation and choose to tie that money up in gift cards, are indeed taking a risk. Even if they can find other uses for those giftcards.
But I'm not here to argue over gift cards. Everything on this thread is a risk and most of us are prepared if it doesn't work out. I enjoy hearing the story of those that save 20%-30% and I enjoy finding new ways to save myself.

How does this work now? I used to use it too, but got an email that Amazon quit offering price guarantees. It said something about possibly using a credit card that offered price protection. Is that what you do? i'd love to figure it out because I got quite a bit back from purchases.

Excellent questions. I hadn't seen that note from Amazon, and after I posted this, I realized it had been a while since I had seen anything, so I should check Paribus. I'm not sure if it's because of where I made purchases, but there were no purchases listed for the last 3 months. I thought they had lost a connection to my accounts, but what you said makes it clearer.

I sent them a note asking why no purchases have shown up, and I will post here when I get a response.

Good news! I was able to buy a target gc with target gc by adding another item to the order. I needed Glide Flossers (about $3) and added that to the $100 gc order. Was able to pay entirely with giftcards......

ETA: got the gc via mobile text and it has come

Good news. Happy flossing!

Since churning as we know it has come to an end I wanted to post my "results". I feel like it is thanks to all of you!

After reading this thread for a few months, I started "churning" on Dec 20, 2015. That is the day last year Target offered their 10% off Target GCs. It is also my birthday. So as a present to myself I took $270 and bought $300 in Target GC for the sole purpose of churning. We had no Disney trip planned (we did Universal this summer instead) but I figured if I saved enough I could convince DH.
I didn't invest any additional money. I was a very slow "churner". Minimized risk. I had no trip planned so I had no deadline. I took my original investment ($270) out in non-Disney related goods along the way. I cashed out profit occasionally because I didn't want too much risk out there. Once I cash out my Ebucks next week I will walk away with $1300 in Disney GC - pure profit - almost 500% return.

Earlier this month, I finally did invest some more money, with the end of churning in sight and the stars aligned with the Best Buy deal along with the 10% Ebucks. Since the end of churning was obvious I felt pressure to make more quick. I invested $427.50 and in 3 days turned that into $625 - 40+% profit.

Now that I have about $2000 stockpiled I'll need to plan a trip. And once I have a tripped planned I'll need to make more to pay it off. My plan going forward is to engage in low risk deals that offers 10% or greater savings.

Thanks! It was great while it was working. I hope there is still a way to do it!

Didn't see this posted and you won't make any money besides regular 2% ebucks, but card cash on eBay has Target and BB "pre-owned" GCs for a very small discount. The highest discount was $1.50 off a $150 BB card (and Target was less than that). Its free shipping, so at least you won't lose anything. Might be good for anyone who can't cash out via GS or Kmart/Sears and doesn't want to pay for shipping on WG.

Didn't realize "Target" GCs were back on eBay through an official store! But if they're categorized as "gift cards," Ebates no longer gives cash back on gift card orders from eBay.

I've been combining target gc into larger target gc online with no issues (and no other items purchased) multiple times since they implemented the online ban of buying 3rd party gc online with target gc. I didn't realize that was potentially an issue...
