News Round Up 2016

I can see it, but man it's hard to get past the mental block of "if only I could charge $6 for one cupcake!"

I don't know... I was at my local grocery store the other night and they had individual desserts in the deli case (like a slice of carrot or chocolate cake) for $6 each. In the middle of IOWA! I looked around but there were no princesses to take a picture with nor were there any cool rides or fireworks happening. I suspect those desserts fell off the Disney truck or something. :confused3

That's quite a lot! Target here has 6 cupcakes in a pack for probably around $7-$8. If I go to Marianos it's probably closer to that $5 each pricepoint because they're a fancy store.

I cringe every time I see/read Ample Hills. The name just makes me feel icky. Is that an intentional double entendre? Or is it just me? I can't imagine it's accidental. Really dislike that tone and the culture it attracts/condones/supports. Seems to be showing up more these days.

Let's play a game, Boardwalk Eatery or stripper name...

Jelly Rolls?
Ample Hills?

;)

It almost made me miss the price tag on it. $5.59! Would anyone actually pay out of pocket for that? I'm bake quite a bit at home so I have a very hard time believing that as a real price.
When worked in food service along time ago, Star Wars Weekends cupcakes were 5.29 after tax..

People have always used semi dirty language to name places.
Look up the translation of "Grand Teton" as in Grand Teton National Park.
The first French men to see the mountain peaks called em as they saw em and named them after what they resembled to them. :rolleyes1

Most cultures had similar names for mountains, and volcanoes especially were referred to as "breasts of the Earth" and Lava was some variation of "Earth's milk." I get that.
The etymology of naming geological features does not mean it's a good thing to use potentially risque references when naming family oriented businesses. I think it makes them less "family oriented." Even if my kids don't understand the reference now, creating memories there and then having the double meaning dawn on them later in life...I'd rather not have that as part of our family memories. Clearly I'm in the minority, and I'm okay with that. I usually am! lol

ALL that being said...apparently it's me and my dirty mind!!

From the Ample Hills Cremary website:

"We named Ample Hills after Walt Whitman's poem Crossing Brooklyn Ferry, which speaks of the connectedness of people across time and space...

What is it, then, between us?

What is the count of the scores or hundreds of years between us?

Whatever it is, it avails not-Distance avails not and place avails not. I too lived-Brooklyn of Ample Hills, was mine..."

I will happily visit a place inspired by a different Walt and will torture my children with his poetry on the way!:rotfl2:
